Yep, Rihanna went and did it. Despite all the rumours going around that she was going to be featuring her abusive ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, on her reworking of unfinished album track Birthday Cake, I didn't want to believe it. I had too much, misplaced, faith in Rihanna. I even held off commenting on the subject, because I honestly thought the pair were just using the publicity to cleverly hype their next singles. But the audio for the Birthday Cake remix has just hit the net.
They say "to err is human but to forgive is divine", and that is true. If Rihanna wanted to move on from past events- as signs like following Chris Brown on her twitter last year indicated- then more power to her, who are we to stand in the way, we weren't the ones bloodied and brutalised. But there is something sinister about this mess, especially when considering the content of the song.
It's one thing to duet on a song with an abusive ex about forgiveness and lessons learnt- and even that I would be conflicted about- but it's an entirely different, sickening, thing to sing on one which has the abuser singing a line; "I want to ***** you right now, been a long time, been missing your body". This was clearly designed to offend and get people talking, but seriously Rihanna, you need to draw the line somewhere in your quest for publicity. This is not only degrading to yourself, but, more worryingly, it's a dangerous message to be sending out to those in abusive relationships.
Fair enough, these are two young adults, clearly with less than half a brain to share between them, but disappointment also needs to be directed at the record company people that gave this remix the green light. Yes, in the world of entertainment all publicity is supposedly good publicity, but did they not care about the wider implication of this collaboration, or consider the effect this would have on a large portion of fans who keep this cash cow producing golden milk.
We too suffered, emotionally, with Rihanna, when we saw "those" photos. In fact our emotional scars haven't been allowed to heal because we've never been given the full picture of what happened that night. Clearly, with all the facts at her hand, Rihanna has moved past this event but that doesn't help us, and this release's blatant lack of sensitivity to that could be the missile that finally sinks the "Rihanna Navy"- the name she has given to her fans. Ironic that it would be her that fired it.
*Goes to remove Rihanna from Facebook/Twitter*.

It's all for business, record executives are just using shock value.
Similar to how Gaga uses religion for shock value in her music videos.
Even if it doesn't sit well with the fans it's going to draw a lot of buzz and probably attract a fair amount of radio play which is all the label executives want.
She has no talent at all, what did you expect? She will sell her soul if that gives her enough money, like a lot of commercial whores. I feel sorry for her fans, because the image they are receiving is that is domestic abuse is OK as long as it gives you money. She is free to forgive him if she wants to, but doing a song with him just to earn more money is pathetic.
Never really been into her, never bought any of her records that is. I get what you are saying though, forgiving is all good and whatever but this is just so wrong on every level.
She is certainly making a naive decision here that if she is not careful could backfire. A song with a little substance should have been called for in this situation, not that of sex starved animals. It's a shame....
Thousands of poor young women die day in day out due to domestic violence and not that I am sat here saying that Rihanna is condoning or promoting such, she is hardly setting the appropriate example as you say.
If it really is all about money as you guys state then she has about as much decency and substance as she does vocal/songwriting talent - None...
I have only purchased one of Rhianna's releases. I have seen this news and this has made my personal decision just as I have boycotted Chris Brown material even though it is good to also boycott plans I had to purchase more of Rhianna's music. DUE TO THE PUBLIC NATURE OF THE ORDEAL I FEEL SHE IS GIVING A PASS TO ABUSE. Chris Brown has never shown to me that he has dealt with his anger management and Rhianna is promoting dysfunctional behavior.
I think Rihanna likes to be abused. Just saying.
Controversy. Just to keep themselves relevant. It's disgusting.
You say that know one knows what happened that night? The whole police report was leaked online.

It's pathetic what some people will do for a bit of cash and 'fame'
