ReplyDeleteHow about Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Debbie Harry, Shirley Manson, Gwen Stefani and Courtney Love?
ReplyDeleteOh and Sinead O'Connor please.
ReplyDeleteIMHO, here is many soul and RB divas, but I really miss here some great rock, hardrock female singers such as Janis Joplin, Pat Benatar, Ann Wilson. Also there are some metal divas like Tarja Turunen or Floor Jansen with really extraordinary voices. It would be great to see their vocal profiles here.
ReplyDeletei want siti nurhaliza vocal profile. people often say she has 2 octaves vocal from C3-G5, but i want to know her vocal strength.
ReplyDeleteTori Amos, Alanis Morissette, Robyn Beck and Sharon den Adel are my suggestions. They are all magnificent!
ReplyDeletehey guys, thanks for the suggestions.. They might not be added to the actual list, but I've seen them and they've been noted. :D
ReplyDeleteHi, I suggest Anneke van Giersbergen (from The Gathering and Agua de Annique), Agnete M. Kirkevaag (from Madder Mortem) and Anette Olzon (Nightwish, Alyson Avenue). I think this site deserves more metal divas :) Thanks for great job you're doing!
ReplyDeleteI suggest Ani Difranco and PJ Harvey
ReplyDeleteI notice you have Gwen Stefani twice on your list!
ReplyDeleteYou should cross of Jewel since you made a vocal profile for her and put her on the list of completed ones if possible.

ReplyDeleteMelanie Amaro The first XF US winner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4q5mZo39Qk
ReplyDeletegoing to be huge
DO DO!
ReplyDeleteI agree you should add more metal/rock singers.
ReplyDeleteCan you add Grace Slick?
Also, in your descriptions, can you distinguish between studio and live performances? There is a huge difference between hitting a note in a studio and hitting it in a crowded auditorium without technical enhancement.
Sarah Brightman and Elizabeth Fraser, please!
ReplyDeletePlease have Agnes Monica! I know she's not really well known outside Indonesia (aside from singing with Michael Bolton) but her voice is too amazing to be missed. She's a soprano and her voice spans 3.5 octaves from Bb2 to F6. Pros: Strong, distinctive voice, ability to shift between strong and soft vocals, clear head voice, having one of the most explored voice ranges in Indonesia. Cons: Prone to oversinging, low voices sometimes sound pushed and unclear, belting sometimes sound strained and screamed.
ReplyDeleteYeah Do I think it is short for Dominique Rijpma van Hulst

I would love to see profiles for those 3 queens of pop!
ReplyDeleteAyumi Hamasaki, from Japan (still, I should warn u that she gone completly deaf on her left ear on late 2007/early 2008, so, her vocals from 2008-2010 can be pretty atrocious sometimes, still, she got better from mid 2010 on)

Hey divadevotee,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! It's wonderful that you are doing these vocal profiles. I'd like to suggest a few singers, namely Christina Perri, Christina Grimmie, and Kristin Chenoweth. Thanks so much!
-Lori
P.S. How frequently do you update your blog?
Jessie James (the country singer)-(she sounds like Christina Aguilera when she sings) and Sia octave range
ReplyDeleteMANDY MOORE
ReplyDeleteJohn Cooper (Skillet)
ReplyDeleteAnnasophia Robb, Alexz Johnson
ReplyDeleteThanks for this great job!
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest P.J. Harvey, and also the magnificent Anja Orthodox from closterkeller http://www.anja.pl
The latter is a near operatic diva. I wouldn't try to guess abt her range, but it's quite impressive to me!
Cheers,
Gaëlle
And I would also vote for Sinéad, Grace Slick, Debbie Harry & Catpower. Along with Jeff Buckley, and Thom Yorke (whom I already suggested on the M. Jackson page).
ReplyDeleteIn answer to two other suggestions, IMHO, Matthew Bellamy & Mylène Farmer would be quite disappointing. I love Muse, but his live voice is not up to the count, and Mylène, well, here in France, anybody but her fans (whom are quite numerous, granted) will tell you that she just can't sing. Very very limited range, awfully out of tune live, and no power at all (not that I mind that, Jane Birkin & Françoise Hardy have very small voices too, and I do love both)
I Hope I'm not being offensive to anyone. As I said, this is just what I feel, I'm in no way a qualified musicologist ;-)
Thanks for this great job,
Gaëlle
When I went to see Muse last October, Matthew Bellamy's vocals were incredible! I don't know what you've seen.
DeleteCould you please make a vocal profile for Kim Jong Kook?
ReplyDeleteHe's a South Korean singer with an unusually high voice! :)
