[Discuss] Overrated Singers

We've all had that experience where someone (or usually at the time, seemingly everyone) is going on and on about a singer, and you're just not getting the fuss. Bad times.

This isn't really about a singer being out and out bad, mind. For example Britney Spears can't really sing well. But since she's  never been billed as a vocalist of any sort, to call her "overrated" (vocally) would be untrue. So what do I mean? Let me give you una example.

[Is Anyone Out There?] Rita Ora and Chris Brown Team Up For "Body on Me" Video

It's the collaboration you all asked for. Don't never say that the good Lord doth not deliver'th! Or say it and risk a bitch slap from an unseen force. What do I care? Your life, your face.

[Yasss!] Joanna Newsom Returns With "Sapokanikan"

Darn tootin, I almost missed this new release from the sublime Joanna Newsom. Thank the stars for the front page over at YouTube!

Taken from the Diva's October-due album, Divers, Sapokanikan is a bright and lithe piece of music that finds her still insistent on delivering wordy pieces. If you're unfamiliar with this Marmite-esque Diva, prepare to be assaulted by lyrics that tumble forward, almost relentlessly, for five minutes straight. With this familiarity there is also novelty, though, with the Diva playing more than ever with range and harmony to convey the narrative. The resulting mesh is one that is as invigorating as it is thought provoking. (I almost feel smarter just for having been in its presence!)

Lana Del Rey Trys Out Trap With "High By The Beach"

Lana Del Rey is keeping up the musical push by releasing a new single from the soon to be released LP, Honeymoon.

High By The Beach is as dreamy as Lana's last release, the title track of the album. However, the Diva has injected a little street, and modernity, into this cut with an electronic trap(ish) beat.

Honestly, as beautiful as the song sounds, the beat wasn't needed- sounding unpolished, cheap and incongruous with the rest of the production. But hey, the track is about about getting high, so why not throw in an "urban" flavour, because, you know, that's not cliché at all.

Still, I'm liking what I've heard from Honeymoon so far.
