Vocal Type: Mezzo-Soprano
Whistle Register: No
Vocal Range: 2.7 octaves (C3-B5 approx)
Vocal Pluses: Powerful, passionate, multifaceted voice. Not only is it an expressive and well controlled instrument, but it's one that doesn't weigh on melisma to impress (though she is capable of using this vocal technique if required [Do What U Want] ). With her excellent breath control and knowledge, the Diva can hold notes [Fashion], jump octaves [Venus], and play with vocal dynamics at will [Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered].
Lady Gaga's low notes are well supported, and have a dark, solid and medium weight to them [Scheiße]. The mid-range is as chameleonesque as Gaga herself. It can be controlled, measured and mature [Fashion]; theatrical, poised and smooth [Lady Is A Tramp]; guttural, raw and raspy [ Dope]; or made perfect for pop music with the character stripped back, and a light, bright quality used [Poker Face]. All this vocal variety stems from Gaga's excellent understanding of placement and technique.
The lower part of the belting range has a weight and thick timbre to it, as well as a strong resonance- thanks in large part to the superb support she provides it [Hair (Live)]. This resonance can be carried into the higher parts of the chest register- past a C5- but it creates a sound that is raspier and raw, as the placement is pulled into the throat [Edge of Glory (live)]. It's a technique she understands and uses with musical astuteness, adding texture and artistic colouring to a song or performance [Manicure]. This "edge" can be eliminated, at the expense of the resonance of the voice, by shifting the mix of the chest and head voice. The resulting sound produced is clearer and brighter with a healthier sound and an elastic quality[ background vocals: Sexxx Dreams].
The head voice alone can be light and airy [ Paparazzi] or thicker and with an operatic like tone [ Government Hooker]. Despite not utilising this part of the range often in her pop output, Gaga has shown extreme comfort and skill, being able to sing within it without issue and in a connected fashion with the rest of her range [Sound Of Music medley].
Lady Gaga is in possession of an impressive vibrato which she uses to polish and adorn, mostly, her held notes. It is malleable and varied in nature, but can be used throughout the range [Chest] [Head ]. She is also capable of singing a note without it if need be [Bang Bang].
Vocal Negatives: Lady Gaga's high belting can sound like shouting at times if the notes are pulled up into the throat. This occurs more so in live settings than on recordings.
There are some higher notes in the video below but I'm not including them, since I consider exclamations and singing to be two totally different things. One requires a degree of skill- singing- and one doesn't- screaming and exclamations.
I don't think Gaga's potential can be mesured on her released songs. There is this old performance where she hits a G5, her voice is pretty damn great.
ReplyDeleteHighest Eb5? LMAO. No.
ReplyDeleteHere is the REAL video of her vocal range.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2knVgyDQAlA&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
She can hit every damn note that Aguilera does, she just doesn't often.
@ anon: I'll update this after the new album drops.
ReplyDeleteIn the negatives, you didn't mention her nasal, catarrhal tone.
ReplyDeleteHer vocie isn't powerful. To mimic power, she just sings really deep in herchest voice. She sounds terrible live. I've heard her a few times.
You didn't update it.
ReplyDeleteHey there this is a really great video of her Vocals live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2knVgyDQAlA&feature=mfu_in_order&list=ULange also her vocals have a operatic tinge to then aswell
ReplyDeleteGaga is a lot of things but she is no Mezzo. Her tone and timbre are very dark and heavy hence the higher notes sounding like shouting. Most defo a Contralto Stuey.
ReplyDeletei find her voice better than her pop peers
ReplyDeleteplus she transitioned from being a soprano to being a mezzo soprano
i heard her live before she was famous and she could definitely sing
With regards to her hitting the G5 in an old performance: she does. Just about. She really struggles with that note, it's right at the top of her range, and it makes you cringe because you don't think she's going to make it.
ReplyDeleteIn all of her old stuff, from the Red And Blue album, she sings in a generally higher voice than now. (Now being 2008 - onwards so don't say her voice has developed). I think she's naturally a mezzo-soprano and she prefers the sound of the lower end of her voice. She wants to be different to everyone else so she wants to move away from being a mezzo, as it's the most common voice type.
@anon, direcetly above. Thanks for that well thought out comment. Was an interesting read!
ReplyDelete^Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAlso there are a few notes she can't quite hit. A5 (and maybe G5)is too high for her full voice and too low for her head voice. Th A5's on the youtube "vocal range" videos are audibly autotuned, as are the majority of her sing D5 and above although she has just about managed some F5's.She can just about manage D-G5, occasionally reaching them, they are at her natural limit, but she struggles and I would bet that she doesn't usually hit them. I don't know if I would class her head voice (Bb-B5) as singing as it isn't connected to the rest of her voice.
Obviously she's not a Christina or a Mariah, but considering who she has around her, I feel like she's the strongest. Along with her are Adele and believe it or not Ke$ha. Adele has control, but doesn't show diversity as some say. Ke$ha has control over her voice and goes into 3 octaves and more notes when live.
ReplyDeleteThere is absolutely NO way Lady Gaga has a 2.5 octave range. It is definitely up to at least a 3 or a 4 octave range. Those "exclamations" are just a part of her performance and should still be included in her vocal capacity.
ReplyDeleteAdele and Beyonce are far superior to Gaga.
ReplyDeleteAnd to the anonymous stan above - be quiet.
actually i dont wholly agree with that statement ^^^ they all have their pluses and negatives
ReplyDeleteadele: soulful voice with a nice tone but her smoking has immensely damaged her voice and sometimes she can't hit some of the notes that are in the studio recording of her songs
beyonce: i personally dont like beyonce's voice because compared to whitney her voice is not as rich and deep and her constant abuse of melisma is annoying and obnoxious
gaga: doesn't have as wide of a range as bey or adele but her voice is extremely versatile she can sing country (you and I) rock (speechless) dance( most of her songs) r&b (teeth) and jazz (orange coloured sky + the lady is a tramp)
her voice is also damaged by idk what
all of those three are extremely talented in their own way and i dont think its fair to say one is better than the other
plus all three of them are packed into my IPOD - so why cant we all just get along
miley's better
ReplyDeleteshes also hard to be understood when she belts high notes
ReplyDeletein lady gaga's recent performances she shows off her stunning vibrato and personally i think her voice is improving a lot
ReplyDeleteCan you send me a link please. I'd love to hear.
ReplyDeletethis is the only one i could retrieve i coudnt find the others

ALAN CARR PERFORMANCE
I JUST WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW U THINK SHE DID
This is an excellent website - People who comment seem to have some idea of what they are talking about. Yay!
ReplyDeleteHer head voice, from 4.25:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Cio4YkVIK0U
I've seen all of the above performances, but the only ones that I've really loved have been the one at the Grammy nomination party, and the one she recorded for her Thanks Giving special- that one was truly class..
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm going to update her profile soon, so thats a good positive to add.
ReplyDeletereally?
ReplyDeletei thought the grammy nomination performance was kind of weak
the instrumental seemed to drown out her voice idk why
ive also wondered why she hasn't really ever used her head voice/falsetto in her live performances
oh and i had another ?
ReplyDeletewho do you think is a better singer gaga or madonna
strictly judging their vocal ability
Personally, I would say Gaga is a better singer than Madonna, but that's because her voice has really developed and matured over the last couple of years.
ReplyDeleteGaga said in some interwiew that she usualy smoke and sometimes she smoke marihuana. I think that it destroyed her voice , when she was younger she was abble to hit G5 live in full voice now thats only E5 . And her falsetto almost does not exist , she was abble to hit G5 live falsetto and she hit some B5 head voice in fancy pants but that was 5 years ago now she can hit her highest note F5 barely in falsetto and lowest Bb2 in vocal fry. And do you think she can hit that D6 in Sheisse live ?
ReplyDeletethats what i was thinking
ReplyDeletegaga isthe better singer and madonna is the better dancer
she sounds very much like christina aguleria!
ReplyDeletegaga can't sing with harmonie, madonna can sing a loooot better than gaga, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteWatch Lady GaGa singing The Edge Of Glory at a very GaGa thanksgiving, Im not an expert but I think she goes higher than a B5 there :)
ReplyDeleteShe a high note ( i think C6) at the start of just dance in z100 jingle bell ball
ReplyDeleteShe hit ( sorry for mistake )
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tz6PYAV1T6I look at 2.39 its short but sustaind
ReplyDeleteIs there anyway this profile could be updated a bit, please? Looking back in the past year, it's quite clear that Gaga has been trained quite well and has improved tremendously since her last album. I remember a year ago people were saying she didn't have a head voice then at the Grammy nominations concert, she whips out an F5 like it's nothing. :P
ReplyDeleteWould be nice to see what you think about her improvements as a vocalist.
Can you tell me what note she hits here at 2.40
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tz6PYAV1T6I
hey Maratov9 that was an exclamation, and I try to avoid using those in my profiles.
ReplyDeleteI think thats an A5
ReplyDeleteWhats the note she hits here at 1.05 and the notes she hits in singing "youuu" and the note after "hooker" at the end ?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJE_dYYPH9U
Can somebody tell me what notes she hit here at 1.04
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY9Sj_IwZ3U
What notes she hits here in that "yoooohooo" and at 1.04 and then after the word hooker ??
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY9Sj_IwZ3U
When ?
ReplyDeleteAnd what are the highest notes in Stuck On Fuckin You
ReplyDeletehttp://soundcloud.com/stuckonfuckinyou/lady-gaga-stuck-on-fuckin-you
ReplyDelete^What's the highest note she hits in this song, when she sings the "you-ou" bits?
here at 1.04
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJE_dYYPH9U
A G5
ReplyDeleteA G5
ReplyDeleteA g5
ReplyDeleteA g5 and an Eb5
ReplyDeleteAt 1.05 it is G5 ???
ReplyDelete... really i wouldn't get too excited over that... she wasn't even singing
ReplyDeletei feel like gaga is better than alot of her contemporaries (rihanna, katy perry, britney) but i feel like she could do so much better if she really took a break and trained her voice
she is capable of using her falsetto/head voice whatever you wanna call it but it seems disconnected from the rest of her range
Why dont you update her vocal profile her voice has changed since the fame alot. And you should add the lowest note Bb2 in sheisee its in vocal fry but i think it should count
ReplyDeleteDidnt she belt F5 in piano performance of Marry the night in Alan Ross
ReplyDeletehey Gembler19 I don't hear a Bb2. Maybe a C3 but its not a very clear note because its so quick. If she can hit a b2 then I'm sure we'll see it in a live performance soon enough, but this one is just too short for me to count. However, the vocal positives have been updated.
ReplyDeleteon Alan Carr? The highest i heard was an E5 towards the end, which she hit a few times. So one note off.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nx-vApk5PY
I don't think that was her. You can clearly hear that her voice comes in while that note is quietening, also the texture is different to the head notes she hits. It sounds like a mans voice to me. But it is a G5
ReplyDeleteI was not sure that it is she but she said she sang the whole song alone
ReplyDeleteOkey and why didnt anybody noticed A2 in monster just play the acapella studio version starts at 1.16
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpAcF3ubT9E
That's an A3?
ReplyDeleteWatch this at the start there is also c3
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Bge-gKRmU4
hey diva devotee???
ReplyDeletei finally found a video where you can hear her head voice/falsetto notes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH4KfVbyNcA&feature=related
what note is that and whats the difference between head voice/falsetto
sorry if thats a stupid question but i get confused
Hey jessie , thats an f5. Falsetto is usually reserved for use with men, but women can sing in it too. Its usually airy, soft and hard to get a lot of resonance from, so needs amplification via a microphone. It's also disconnected from the rest of the voice. The head voice feels like its resonating in the head, as the name suggests, and produces a more characterful and powerful sound. It's also part of the modal voice.
ReplyDeletethank you!
ReplyDeleteis the F5 that she hit -falsetto?
also is that note considered part of her vocal range?
also i have been told that every female has a whistle register... do you think gaga will ever be able to use her whistle register
ReplyDeleteG5. Though it kinda sounds like a guy, not her.
ReplyDeleteno thats definitely her
ReplyDeletewhy do you think its a guy?
yeah the whoo was one of the guys with her
ReplyDeleteoh wait u mean the whoooo its a guy one of the producers she was working with
ReplyDeleteyes i agree she has a lot of potential
ReplyDeleteshe said in an interview once that she doesn't smoke anymore i think it was an interview with tony bennett
but here is a vid that displays her head voice/falsetto
I am very curious about D6 in scheisse , soon the Born this way ball will start and i hope she will hit it but not as exclamation but sustaind that means she will need to use her whistle register ( whistle reg. starts at C6 sometimes at E6)
ReplyDeleteI think that's a head note and yes the note is considered part of her range :D
ReplyDeleteDivaDevotee what do you think about the notes( A2 and C3 ) in the video ?
ReplyDeleteA got some other videos with head v. and falsetto
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RbwiGnNB34 at 0.18http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1v2JcPjDyDQ at 0.15http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XfQd80fWVk at 0.52http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W_u_MIAmjs&feature=related at 0.2 ( im not expert but it sounds like A5 or B5 )
is her vocal range really that limited??? i thought it was wider
ReplyDeletewait the d6 in scheisse will have to be hit in the whistle register?
ReplyDeletewait diva devotee can you tell me the lowest note she hits in this
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sipJJ2kOVx8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sipJJ2kOVx8
ReplyDeletehey whats the lowest note she hits here?
It can be hit in head voice too or falsetto( but i doubt that Gaga can hit it in falsetto)
ReplyDeleteAnd whats to lowest note ?
ReplyDeleteShe can lower in talking to B2 and she did exclamation of D6
ReplyDeleteE3
ReplyDeleteE3
ReplyDeletedidnt she sing D3 in the word "regret"
ReplyDeletedoesnt she hit the d6 in head voice in the studio version?
ReplyDeleteShe hit D6 only in Sheise
ReplyDeleteand it was exclamation
ReplyDeleteoh okay but you dont think she can hit D6 sustained in head voice?
ReplyDeletehaha you mispelled harmonie obviously i shouldnt listen to you
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezz5AGSQ3PI&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
ReplyDeletewhat about here
probably yes we will see when the BTW ball start
ReplyDeleteLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Lady Gaga has been up front about her admiration for Madonna. But does Madonna share the love?
ReplyDeleteThe "Material Girl" sounded lukewarm in U.S. interviews
released on Friday, calling her influence on Gaga's music "interesting"
and "amusing." Sometimes.
"I certainly think she references me a lot in her work.
And sometimes I think it's amusing and flattering and well done,"
Madonna, 53, told ABC News in a television interview.
"There's a lot of ways to look at it. I can't really be
annoyed by it...because obviously, I've influenced her," the pop star
told ABC.
The comparisons between the two divas, both known for
combining provocative stunts with catchy dance-pop hits, came to a head
when Gaga released her "Born This Way" single last February.
The song was instantly likened to Madonna's 1989 hit "Express Yourself".
"When I heard it on the radio .I said that sounds very
familiar," Madonna said. Asked if that felt annoying, Madonna responded,
"It felt reductive."
Pressed by ABC interviewer Cynthia McFadden whether that was a good or bad thing, Madonna replied "look it up".
In a separate interview in the upcoming issue of
Newsweek, Madonna described "Born This Way" as "a wonderful way to redo
my song."
"I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was... interesting," she added.
"Born This Way" became an instant hit for Lady Gaga,
25, topping the charts in 19 countries and becoming the fastest selling
song in iTunes history.
The Grammy-winning singer told U.S. talk show host Jay
Leno in February that she was Madonna's "hugest fan personally and
professionally."
As for "Born This Way", Gaga told Leno; "The good news
is that I got an e-mail from her (Madonna's) people, and her sending me
their love and complete support on behalf of the single."

Has this been updated with the release of her new album and all?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm quite confused as to whether her vocal range is 2.5 octaves or 4.1 octaves because you say "approx" in the first section but then go on to say that it's 4.1 later on. Is there anyway you could clear it up :/
Shouldn't you change her voice type to mezzo soprano because it's so obvivous she is, and also she such great vibrato and i love it when she sings Opera.
ReplyDeleteShe is definitely a contralto. She has a lower voice, even at rest when she speaks and it has a heavy weight and darker timbre. It's not unusual for a contralto with proper vocal training and technique to reach the notes that she can, or even higher!
ReplyDeleteis there a difference between alto and contralto? please anyone.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of classical music. A contralto is a voice type, and it is the deepest female singing voice. Contralto and alto are not the same, and not interchangeable. The term alto is used in choral music to denote a specific vocal range, with no regards to factors such as vocal weight, texture, etc. This is because choir singers are categorized according to their vocal range.
ReplyDeleteShe has a Operatic tinge to her vocals and such great vibrato
ReplyDeleteHere areVideos showing her Opera singing (she is amazing at it and it sounds so beautiful).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q9XZ9uhA7Q 0:40 & 5:06
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQGP1AzBAK8 0:38 & 0:51
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEuNX6-E_S8 0:56
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1v2JcPjDyDQ 0:16
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip6k3ZSfKC4 0:31
What? I can't believe this! Even when her voice cracked and sounds horrible at her live performances, all of you still considered it as great? She can't even sing like Christina did and she can't even dance like Beyoncé did and she is still the best? Oh my God, what is happening? When she performed live at certain grand ceremonies, did you all noticed that all of those artists were giving her some kind of smirks on their faces which shows that she is just another attention-craving whore!
ReplyDeleteomg .. i though they said she had 4 octaves ,,lol
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cqPbDAMu4k&feature=relatedAt the end she hits very high note what do you think about that DivaDevotee ?
ReplyDeleteThis is so confusing D; Can you pretty please update this DD. I feel like there isn't a clear explanation of her voice. Like the video says 4.1 but I think it's a stretch. And the I feel like 2.5 isn't enough considering all the live notes & notes she's hit on her new album. Cans someone explain?
ReplyDeleteHery TandumWand Gaga uses an even smaller range on the "Born this way" album, going lower than noted above (a C3) but not higher than an E5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oI4RowdOPo . So the range will be amended to 2.7to include the extra note. I may just remove the bottom video to avoid confusion though.
ReplyDeleteWhy there is a 2.6 octave ? D3-B5 is only 2.5
ReplyDeleteShe hits A2 in "Living on the Radio" a few times at 0:40 - 0:41, 0:54 - 0:55 and at 0:58 - 1:00 in this video.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U48SQuxBlfs
this may be a stupid question but what notes will she have to hit for her to have a 3 octave range
ReplyDeleteThis should be count and if, so she has 3,1 octave range
ReplyDeleteYou should update her vocal range and vocal negatives and what do you think about Gaga as a vocalist is she good or excelent or bad singer can you tell my your opinion ?
ReplyDeleteHer range is from A2 to B5 (See my previous comment for evidence), so would you correct her vocal range?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I forgot to reply before. That notes sound like a G/G#3 to me, Not an A2. The Quality of the audio makes it sound lower as well as the colour of the note.
ReplyDeleteMost of that song vocal is built around middle C [C4] , for instance the "apart" at 33seconds is a C4, and that is already pretty dark in colouring, just imagine how dark a note an octave and 2 notes lower would be!
What about listen to the other videos Gaga sang it, she sang it more times so we can hear what note it was.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVKL97hx8X8&feature=relatedSomewhere about 1.20 i think i can hear A2 but im not vocal expert so you should listen to that .
ReplyDeleteI listen to the video below, and a bout 4 different ones on youtube.
ReplyDeleteStill a G3 to me
ReplyDeletei can hear A2 and G3 at the same time is it possible ?
ReplyDeletehere head voice is weird???
ReplyDeletehow can she have a airy but operatic head voice at the same time?
Read it again. It says Either or. Meaning it can be both but not at the same time. Trained singers can manipulate their voices in such ways.
ReplyDeletehey diva idk if its just me but doesn't her voice in the begginning of her career sounds deeper - like the tone was deeper and richer- but now its lighter and sounds healthier
ReplyDeletelisten to her voice here and you might see what i mean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2aE-mnNZJ4
i have been thinking the same, her at tone was low sounding but now it's much higher.
ReplyDeleteFAKE VOICE, FAKE PERSONA , JUST ALTOGETHER A FAKE! LOOK HOW HER LIGHT IS DIMMING ALREADY! LOLZ!
ReplyDeletePlease stop trolling @Hateraide and go away if you're not going to act civil.
ReplyDeleteher light is dimming?
ReplyDeleteum everyone has their time in the lime light and just because someone has a limited range doesn't mean they're a bad singer
anyway this isn't some random site that you can troll on
people here actually know what they are talking about and i think you are the only hateful and unnecessary comment ive ever seen on this site
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzx1H-qsAdo&feature=related
ReplyDeletealso here (the video is a little out of sync) but you can tell her voice is much deeper here compared to now
does anyone know what might have caused the difference
A negative could be that her voice may sound nasal at times.
ReplyDeleteDIVA
ReplyDeletei agree there are some occasions when her voice sounds a tad nasal (sometimes it has to do with the acoustics and the mic she uses) but i was wondering if its possible for a singer to completely eradicate that nasality when singing?
Almost 75% of monster ball in 2011 was nasal and the whole HBO special and i cant help feeling her voice is getting weaker and weaker every show she makes
ReplyDeletei honestly think it was the mic she was using because those head mics that she used at the monster ball made her voice sound drowzy and weird
ReplyDeletehowever when i see her at the piano singing acoustic versions of her songs, her voice sounds perfect and her voice sound fine when she uses a hand held mic
idk but i think its just the head mics she uses and the fact that shes dancing basically the whole show doesn't help either
i think for her next tour she needs to stick with the hand held mics and tone down the choreography a little or sneak in acoustic performances in between heavily choreographed songs
Yes i believe it was the mic that made her nasal and you are right when you play on youtube any performance of love game at monster ball it sounds like she is mumbling something under her nose while going to fall asleep
ReplyDeleteyeah i dont like when lovegame is performed live
ReplyDeleteidk early in her career her voice was deeper for some reason and lovegame sounded great live - dancing with the stars performance
i really hope she realizes that those head mics make her voice unpleasant sometimes and i hope she goes back to using just regular hand held mics
Hey Diva on the edge of glory track i think there is a whistle note on the recorded backing track and on this video you can hear the notes clearly on the chorus while she sings
ReplyDeletei am not sure if they're her notes but on the credits for this song gaga is credited for the main vocals and the background vocals so i am assuming they are hers
can you listen to the backing track and tell me what notes they are and if its gaga's voice
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCsOzssrIyg
I think i can hear what you are talking about, but they don't sound like whistle notes to me. They sound like very high belted/mixed notes, which are being provided by the backing singers. They may even be the same notes Gaga is singing but the voice is just lighter and brighter than hers, making them appear higher. I can't quite hear them clear enough though.
ReplyDeleteYou can reduce it but sometimes people want to sing like that to create a certain tone/sound.
ReplyDeleteThey are not being provided by backing singers i noticed them in other show and there were no backing singers
ReplyDeleteThey sound like mixed belts that have been edited, either that or she is really great at mixing her voice however since she has never showed the ability to mix that well and high Im going with the first idea.
ReplyDeleteI think thats autotuned Gagas vocal
ReplyDeletei dont think there were backup singers
ReplyDeletethey were pre recorded on the backing track and on the track gaga is credited for all the vocals on the song
but yeah im sorry its hard to hear
Gaga isnt able to mix that high for sure
ReplyDeleteWhat are the notes are they in sixth octave? i cant figure it out
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHlWUwyvO6g
ReplyDeleteLady Gaga's new vocal range video
Gaga isnt a attention whore ya dummies :p
ReplyDeleteBut yea her voice does sound kinda nasly sometimes but its with certain songs
i cant wait for the born this way ball
ReplyDeleteI did notice that there is almost exact note in "stuck on fucking you" a few seconds towards the end... there is maybe something Gaga didnt show... maybe she can really mix that high !!! but i doubt it.
ReplyDeleteShe was fresh from drug abuse, was a heavy smoker and still drinks a little too much. That's probably why. That's actually the first thing I noticed from her voice too.
ReplyDeleteFalsetto does not apply to women
ReplyDeletebecause they have a natural ability to sing higher notes.
What are the notes in Fashion of His Love when the chorus(every) starts in backround can be heard "ooooooh" someone told my thats an A5 but i find it as lower.
ReplyDeleteI think it's an A4 or B4 until the key change hits, then it goes to a B4 or C5 if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteI thought its A4 too.. but i heard some filtred version and there a heard something like A5 or B5 but that was very unclear ...so let it go
ReplyDeletei know shes had vocal training but do you think she will ever be able to use her whistle register
ReplyDeleteWhat are the notes 2:27 onwards does she hit ?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYtYRBfUooo
ReplyDeleteD5's
ReplyDeletewhat are the note she hits in head voice at 1:58 + 2:00 + 2:12 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7f2wcJdiuE ?
ReplyDeleteand also what head voice note does she hit at 1:03 on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEuNX6-E_S8 ?
ReplyDeleteI think she was able before she was famous but drugs took her ability of singing in whistle.... maybe she will surprise us !!! i will hope :-D
ReplyDeleteI've always respected her as a singer and as a musician but her tone is so basic. She's a terrific technical vocalist (though a little too limited) but she isn't that gifted vocally. However, she delivers most of the time. Too bad she smokes and drinks a lot. LMAO.
ReplyDeleteF5's
ReplyDeletei like her tone i think it makes her versatile - she can manipulate her voice to sounds rock, bluesy, even country and honestly idk about what she does on her free time but she says she drinks on occasion but she says she stopped smoking like 2 years ago
ReplyDeleteand i agree about the technical aspect
and i have a feeling we havent seen the best of her voice yet
i like her head voice i wonder why she doesnt sing in it more often
ReplyDeletei think i consider her more of a musician than and vocalist because even though shes a great singer i feel that she also has that musical intuition that one has when you are truly passionate about music - haha idk if that makes sense
ReplyDeleteAgree... i feel she didnt show the best too, its like you know there is something more to her voice, just like she didnt show almost nothing of her head voice before but she started to use it just last year... maybe at BTW ball she will show all that she didnt show on Monster ball at least i hope.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds interesting, whats that note ???
ReplyDeleteSounds like Eb5
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi7gwX7rjOw whats the note at 2.45 its pretty low, isn't it ?
ReplyDeleteSounds like her vocals ! and it was mentioned in comment below finally good quality and its not whistle its mixed voice rather !!
ReplyDeleteShould this be count to her vocal range ??
ReplyDeleteim not sure if thats a c6 and i dont think its a whistle note but im sure the vocals are gaga's she does all the vocals including backgrounds for her tracks
ReplyDeletei am not sure if she can hit higher notes but im pretty sure she could go lower than D3 we just haven't witnessed it yet
ReplyDeleteSo what is that note ??
ReplyDeleteSounds pretty unnatural... whats your opinion in this Divadevotee ?
ReplyDeletesounds altered to me. Have never heard her sound like that.
ReplyDeleteeven if its doctored -what note would the highest one be?
ReplyDeleteHer voice sounds like a Mezzo Soprano here, she hit some perfect Eb5s in chest voice in the chorus too, and i always thought contralto can't sing that high and sustain Eb5 in chest voice ?.
ReplyDeleteHer voice sounds like a Mezzo Soprano here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4omzsJkp5Wk she hit some perfect Eb5s in chest voice in the chorus too, and i always thought contralto can't sing that high and sustain Eb5 in chest voice and hit e5 like she has here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srue2ZLMIaA at 6:08 & here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RMwmtSv2PE at 5:55 + 6:34 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRh2GUjqtT8 at 14:06 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNVPaLKOtfU 8:05 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CH0rFaX2478 2:57 and hit 11 E5s in a row here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUwDLI9SBQs
ReplyDeleteAgree.... maybe she sang those notes and they modified her voice to sound like that... she alway modifies her voice in the studio.
ReplyDeleteContraltos typically have 3 and half octaves.
ReplyDeleteAnnie Lennox can sustain a belted A5
Cher can belt consecutive D5's which is only a semitone away.
Chaka Khan can sustain A5's
Tina Turner can belt up to a C#6.
Contraltos actually can go high, it's just assumed they can't because their voices are a bit lower but they can :)
hey i found this audio supposedly of gaga rehearsing government hooker live
ReplyDeletethe audio is incredibly murky but what do you guys think?

ReplyDeleteim pretty sure shes a contralto - but as her career has progressed especially now - her voice seems to have lightened up and it seems the tone isn't as deep
ReplyDeleteA personas vocal range doesn't really apply well to their vocal fach. What really matters is which notes are most comfortable for them to sing. Mariah Carey is a light lyric Soprano but can hit a B2. That doesn't mean that she is a Mezzo or Contralto because the place where her voice truly "Rings" is in the upper belting/head registers.
ReplyDeleteher voice has lighten up a lot i have noticed that too
ReplyDeleteWell she belted 11 E5s in a row when she performed Marry the Night on xfactor UK pretty impressive i think.
ReplyDeleteyep i heard it too, loved her Opera singing http://www.youtube.com/watch?
ReplyDeleteYeah i heard it too and it was really live. Her vocals were nasal and weak. Idk why but i think her vocals are getting worse.
ReplyDeletei don't think it's that low...
ReplyDeleteYou added bad link, can you add it again ? I like to see her opera singing :-D
ReplyDeleteAnd the note iiiiiiiiiiiiiis: ?
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on the microphone she uses or if she's dancing too much. And she uses head microphones very often...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that she can belt F5 again.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUF1qaPXm40
ReplyDeleteE3 or higher? Not really sure.
ReplyDeleteOr just because cigarettes and alcohol ( she still smokes and drinks ) are destroing her voice. Wish her to stop doing it . Compare her vocals 2 years ago and now. Someone would say that she has improoved a lot i say her vocals are in regress. And she use head mic on first version of monster ball... then she sounded great in most of her performances but as the second version came her vocals begun nasal and weak. Even with hand mics she sound nasal sometimes.... i can talk about her voice alot, im scared that her vocals will get to the point she will have to lipsynch live. Im expecting a big vocal disappointment at BTW ball with small hope of surprise.
ReplyDeleteShe still smokes. In the last VMAs or something she was smoking before the performance and during the performance of You & I. She smokes pot too doesn't she? She also almost always drinks. She tweets about her drinking and in interviews she usually says she drank in her hotel room last night or smthn.
ReplyDeleteShe can manipulate her voice and sing many genres but her tone itself is nothing special. As I said great vocalist but not that gifted in the voice department. Kinda like beyonce you know, outstanding technical vocalist but a basic voice. GaGa I think is more of a musician and still is more talented than everyone in the Pop charts.
really? i think her voice has gotten stronger and shes a more confident vocalist - sure there are times when she sounds out of breathe but thats because she does the choreo - two years ago her voice seemed deeper but some say she manipulated her voice to do that - because if u look at the video of her singing "captivated" at NYU you will see that her voice is brighter and naturally lighter
ReplyDeletealso a lot of singers sing and drink and gaga has said that she doesn't smoke anymore - so idk about that we cant really know what she does and doesnt do on her free time
yeah the room she was in probably had bad acoustics because the audio sounds really unclear
ReplyDeletei really hope so i want her to prove that shes a good vocalist
ReplyDeleteyeah beyonce's tone isnt the most interesting - but like gaga i think her strength lies in her ability to perform
ReplyDeleteFirst BTW ball videos in few hours so excited !!!
ReplyDeleteSaw her video of Highway Unicorn on BTW, her vocals partly sounded like in 2008... im amazed POSITIVE SURPRISE

ReplyDelete1.25 head voice !!!
