Burning Desire, Lana Del Rey's Jaguar tie-in, has debuted on YouTube, and frankly I'm not as pumped about it as I have been with her previous releases. I suppose this moment was bound to come at some point, but I just didn't think it would be so soon.
The backing of Burning Desire is gorgeous, that needs to be said, and I don't have an issue with that. The melody of the song, as well as Lana's vocals are also not in question; being flawless as usual. What is throwing me off are the lyrics, which are starting to sound that little bit repetitive when viewed from the context of her back catalogue. It also doesn't help when her last single Ride was also about the delights of Eros and automobiles.
We could take this repetition as a sign of Lana's creativity stalling, but I'm not ready to go that far, yet. I think it's more likely that Lana didn't want to wheel out the A-material for a tie-in with a car- six figure deal or not! Besides, she's busy composing for the forthcoming Great Gatsby movie, so we can assume her attention is somewhat preoccupied with that potential hazard.
Burning Desire is still a nippy little number, despite my slight issue with the lyrics. I just hope that now that the Jaguar tie-in has had it's grand unveiling, Lana can speed things up and finally get Gods and Monsters out of the shop and onto the streets.
....Yes, I was intentionally inserting car related terms into the post.......I'm so sorry....
I'm not to familiar with Lana Del Rey.....except her song "cola"....it does things to me....
ReplyDeleteI see your point regarding the lyrics. Not amongst her better efforts. Sounds a bit tossed off. Still, liking this way more than Mariah's new tune.
ReplyDeleteLike the song, video's boring.
ReplyDeleteYes it's repetitive, and it's definitely not my favorite from her.
Afterall, it's just a video that primarily features the Jaguar.
Overall for a low-budget video it's not THAT bad.
Lol!! At least we have this version to enjoy
ReplyDeleteIf you like cola, you'll like most of her other stuff! You should definitely check out some of her videos on YouTube. I'm not sure they'll have "that" effect, but who knows! lol
ReplyDeleteIf this is Lana on a bad day, then I don't think we've got anything to worry about in terms of her musical output.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. And I think Lana's songwriting skill negates her shaky vocal ability amply. Good songwriting is a skill more rare than good vocal ability.:-)
ReplyDeleteAmen, sista! LOL.
ReplyDeleteCola is her catchiest song so far but I love Ride so much more. I always like music with a deeper meaning than just what it seems on the surface with the lyrics.
ReplyDeleteIt was actually "Cola" that turned me into a fan of Lana. I hated her voice for a long time; I thought she sounded like a mumbling mute suffering from a stroke.
ReplyDeleteAs of now, my favorite song from her, is "Off to the races" or something like that....lol
ReplyDeleteRide... Ride for me all the way. Sounds wrong in a sense. HAHAHAHAHA.
ReplyDeleteRide... Ride for me all the way! Hahahahaha sounds so wrong in a sense.
ReplyDeleteYes. But I'll have to honestly say, I'd rather listen to someone with a good vocal ability than someone with a good songwriting skill. :o
ReplyDeleteTrue, but Lana has the advantage of, though shaky, having a pleasing voice. And her singing fits her songs. All in all for my money a singer I would pay to hear but I would be paying mostly for hearing her songs, not awesome vocals.
ReplyDeleteI honestly do not really like her live versions of her song. They're usually altered because she can't really reach low notes live.
ReplyDeleteI still like a few where she changes the chords at some parts of the song and still manages to pull it off though.
I would think Lana's music to be too slow for your taste?
ReplyDeleteLana does have some quicker tunes, this is one of the more fast paced ones (for her) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evkbfminHGY
ReplyDeleteThat's not it; I think it's because the songs are all so... depressing,
ReplyDeleteOh, okay. Guess I would have thought wrong in that case. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link. Though I don't mind slow. Or the kind of depressing Lana does. :-)
ReplyDeleteNo. I have an (inactive) account there, but my username isn't Serendipity.
ReplyDeleteI love "Cola" too. It wasn't something that I was expecting from her.
ReplyDeleteI don't really get the repetitiveness here that you're seeing....I guess cause there are no mentions of Coney Island haha. But I was obsessed with this song for a while and I was afraid the video was gonna look to much like "Ride" but I was pleasantly surprised.
ReplyDeleteAre you Serendipity from ATRL?
