Isn't it ironic that genuinely, only half an hour before being made aware of this video, I was listening to Jagged Little Pill, the housing LP of the Alanis Morrisette classic, Ironic. No, it's not!!!! Because that is not what irony is!
It is, however, in keeping with the way the word was used by Alanis when she penned the hit (OMG) 19(!) years ago. And it's with this confused definition that the Diva has modernised (and social media-ified) this 2015 redo she and James Corden recorded for The Late Late Show. But Alanis ain't no fool, and playfully manages to acknowledge the misuse of the word she wrought upon us all within this spoof. Shame it comes too late for a generation of folk who continue to confuse coincidence and paradox with irony.
Still, as much as I enjoyed this comedy update, writing this post has given me a headache. Isn't that ironic?? Don't you think? A little too Ironic....no, but seriously, I have a headache. FML
