The Winner of Season One of "The Voice" UK is....

...this lady!! Yay, a Diva won the first ever series of The voice, UK. I should mention her name, it's Leanne Mitchell, and having not watching any of the series I am in no position to offer anything but congratulations! I don't even know if she wins anything, though I assume she gets a recording contract. What I do know is that she was mentored by Tom Jones, and was not the bookmakers favourite to win (Thanks BBC website!).

You can watch the moment  Leanne Mitchell won the show here. Oh and a quick question to the aforementioned BBC, did the fireworks for the announcement of the series winner fail, or was it really supposed to be that lame and flat?!

Check out some of Leanne Mitchell's  performances below.

Run To You:

Put A Spell On You:

Who knew:

If I Were A Boy:(qualifying song)

Just listening to this selection I'm not overly impressed by Leanne. She's good, but she's not amazing. Was she really the best the United Kingdom had to offer?

  1. You're not impressed? She's a lot better than half the people that were on The Voice US.

  2. Yeah, the one show I did manage to watch had a singer a lot better than her. I assumed it was a sign of things to come http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zko5LqTNtvs&feature=related

  5. That battle between Jessie and that other dude was incredible. One of the top performances of the show. I hate that Christina let Jessie go, he would have without a doubt won. I really loved Jamar Rogers, also. And I agree with you that Juliet should have easily won between the people she was in the finals with. Too me, her performance of Roxanne was the best of the season.

  6. LOL Well I feel good about that. From the ones I've heard, she was the only one I felt I wanted to hear more of.

  7. I only really watched the first three episodes so thanks for posting these videos. I am glad she won for sure, her voice is certainly different.

She has a very slicing voice at places (which I like)

And at least a guy didn't win it only to fall off the radar a year later lol the curse of the male reality contest winner....

  8. I never watched the US version (which for me is disgusting as Christina is on it lol) but having listened to more of this woman I am extremely impressed. Damn I always miss the good stuff lol

  9. That performance of Who Knew is what I saw of her first and it happens to be a song I like a lot. So for Leanne to win critical me over...;D

  10. I think i'll appreciate her more when she sings her own material but I've just listened to some of the songs again, and I still don't feel her. I can't put my finger on why though.

  11. I agree, a guy would have flopped big time. How she does now will depend on how they market her, so that'll be interesting!

  12. Since I think she has a distinctive vocal personality, perhaps it's a personality clash ;)

  13. Yeah, its spreading like crazy!

  14. Hey! Well I think Leanne was a worthy winner. For me, she wasn't one of the stand-out contestants until the semi-final, when she sang 'Run to You' and blew everyone away.

What I loved about the final was how different the four singers were from each other. However Leanne being the 'safest' in terms of look and style, I could see that she was probably going to win. She is a real technician though and I admire that crazy control she has. I just hope she develops a bit more of a personality - her shy demeanour when being interviewed reminds me a lot of Leona Lewis, and that may count against her at gigs etc.

I had never considered 'the curse' of the male reality winner, but other than Will Young I think you're right! I also agree that the end was a bit flat - I think they may have been over-running somewhat so had to wrap things up in a hurry. I'm stoked for Tom Jones though - that guy has a hell of a set of pipes on him!

  15. Where can I donate to find the cure?

  16. 'Who Knew' is one of my favourite songs too! x

  17. idk i always thought she was a great singer
so much better than ruth brown

  18. I'm a sucker for a good vocal run! LOOOVVED 2:03 in the 2nd video

  19. Saw the final in the rerun and definitely think Leanne was the best of the four. The three others I found quite unimpressive actually. None of them sounded to me like anybody is going to wanna hear more than one album of them to be honest. Not too be a brown nose but Karen, you sound better to me than that Bo) I don't mind the shy thing.
That hipster dude...he annoyed me. The other dude was very good but I think his style in a way limits him.

And yeah, isn't Tom's voice amazing? He might not have the lungs he used to have but somehow the tone of that voice seems to not have changed at all. For me one of the all time greats. :)

  20. Did you see Pink do it on Letterman? Blew me away..

  21. Yeah - that's a great performance. I am lucky enough to have seen Pink live 3 times, she's amazing. Also did you ever see her 'Glitter in the Air' grammy's performance? It is truly beautiful. I can't believe the way she can sing live and do all this:

  22. Ha! 'A brown nose' I haven't heard that phrase in years! That's very kind of you. Well I love Bo's voice, it reminds me of the girl from the Cranberries. I think she has a great recording voice which would sound fab on an album - I'm sure she's not everyone's cup of tea but I think she'll have a loyal following from the show. Yes, Tom Jones is incredible! And I love that he can still hold his own against the youngsters :O)

  23. Impressive an act as that was....the part of it that blows me away is the way she emotes. Which she could have done standing still behind the mic and I would be exactly equally impressed.

But this sure was a great bit of show. Befitting a big award ceremony. No doubt about that. I particularly like that it was sort of simply and "clean". Subtle compared to those acts where there are a lot of lights and dancers etc. It's very Cirque du Soleil and I love that kind of thing. Bottom line is simply...Pink is just a terrific singer whose capable of both subtlety and big emoting

  24. LOL Well what do you want..I AM officially "middle aged"

    ReplyDelete
  25. I know, I can't wait until Pink releases some new stuff!!!

  26. Totally I would love to say her voice will do the marketing for her but that means very little these days it seems *cough Leona Lewis cough*

  27. Agree 100% with all you say. The stagecraft is very simple, but so beautiful to watch, especially at the end. She normally does a few songs acoustically on tour, so if you ever get a chance to see her, I think you'd love those bits.

  28. I loved Jazz! I guess Leanne's more marketable in an 'Adele' kind of vein (although obviously with a more coloratura-style voice), but for me Jazz was the best singer in the contest hands-down. Perhaps he should have dragged up to avoid the 'male winner' curse and then he might have got through?

    ReplyDelete
  29. As her single bombed, what do you think the chances of her being dropped quickly rather than getting the chance of an album? Also bearing in mind the cancelled the tour due to non existent sales???

Personally I think its game over, what you guys think?

Oh and ps, I think her live version of "Run to You" is better than the studio recording and the video is about as much fun as watching puppies being steamrolled....

  30. Stuey...Speaking of ..well nothing in particular but I just remembered I intended to ask you on an quite unrelated note....did you see this yet? Was only paying attention because I know it's a singer you like and have to admit...I enjoyed that. :)

  31. I saw that, and she never fails to impress me live either! The sign of a true artist and star!!! Thanks for bringing this to my attention again ;)

  32. Yes, she's pretty good live and I like how she doesn't shy away from singing live.
