[Watch] Adele Performs "Skyfall" (And Picks Up An Oscar, Too) @ The 2013 Ceremony

adele singing oscar

How in the hell is Adele going to top this era- I can't even fathom! Having just sailed past the 25 million mark with worldwide sales of album 21, yesterday saw the British Belle pick up an Academy Award for the theme song of the latest Bond film, Skyfall.

Winning the Best Original Song gong, Adele now adds the prestigious title of "Oscar winner" to the multitude of other accolades she has accrued in her short time in the industry. But Adele didn't just settle for picking up the award- Nope. This lady is generous, and as such, gave those who attended the show a live performance of the Oscar/Brit/Golden Globe winning Skyfal.

Check out Adele performance of Skyfall, below!

  1. EGOT. That's how.

Oh and by the way, am I trippin' or was something off about this performance? Can't put a finger on it but this wasn't her best performance. yeah, I think I am probably just trippin...

  2. Was I the only one who thought the instrumentation drowned her out in the chorus?

  3. I'm very unhappy with the sound people at the Oscars. Once again the orchestra drowned OUT the singers voice. They did it with Madonna and now they did it with Adele!!! You could totally tell Adele wanted them to turn her mic up. ANYWAY my home girl Adele was nervous but it was a beautiful performance especially when she soared into the high notes. CONGRATS ADELE!!!!

  4. Adele looked beautiful here. I'm glad she ditched her grandmother's sofa cover, and got herself a decent dress this time around. Also, I really don't think it was the orchestra drowning her out, it sounded as if she was holding back in my opinion. It wasn't her best, but I enjoyed her performance!

  5. Didn't people complain about the ''orchestra drowning her out'' when the single dropped as well? I think the effect is meant to be like that.

DD did you see Bassey and Streisand? If not, I mailed you links :-)

  6. "it sounded as if she was holding back in my opinion." It looked to me like she was too. It seemed like she kept looking off in the distance like 'oh no, I better watch this next note..." Someone else mentioned she might have been trying to get someone to turn up her mic. That might actually be a better theory.

  7. I love Shirley Bassey! She's a serious singer, able to project much better and she sounds fierce. <3

  8. It's amazing throughout the video, that her face expression stays the same except the last part where the note is slightly higher. LOL.

  9. I put the link up on my facebook Ricky. She was AWESOME and imo at 76 years old, put all backttrack using, lipsyncing, miming wannabee divas to shame.

  11. A boring and overrated vocalist that can sing nothing but ballads and midtempos. Next!

  12. Nothing on Shirley? :(

  14. I knew her long ago because of my father and the older Bond movies. I did see her live ones before. She's the definition of fierce alright!
76?! Someone give this woman a medal or award already; she deserves it so much more than artists nowadays anyway.

  15. How will she top this you ask?? She won't. She's a flash in the pan, a one trick pony. Her lazy, blase, fake-can't-be-arsed attitude and "ooh look, it's little old me!" Mockney-shtick is wearing really thin. This bandwagon is running out of steam. She's been lauded for not relying on gimmicks but she IS one big gimmick - she is promoted as "real" basically because she's overweight ("real woman" blah blah blah) so it's an easy sell as people already have that "real" down-to-earth association. She makes no effort whatsoever for her fans (the music video for Skyfall is the worst I've ever seen) and acts like this is a GOOD thing, and at some point soon, people will see through her. Her albums are boring, her song-writing mediocre (she only co-writes her songs BTW) and there was nothing of interest on 21 apart from the singles. As a singer, she's over-rated. Yes she's quite good, relative to her peers, but she does the same old tricks in every song. What pisses me off personally about her is that she is portrayed as down-to-earth and friendly and she makes a lot of her rags-to-riches story, yet she wears fur. It shows that her image is totally fake.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hey...she was made a Dame. And rightly so. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sorry to hear you are unable to recognize real when you see it. Because ..No, she is not called ''real'' because of her weight but because of her personality and how freely she expresses herself.
Not surprising though you would then apply failing logic like ''wearing fur proves she didn't go from rags to riches''.

All good and well that you don't like her, her singing or her material. But your '''argumentation'' holds little water. Strikes me she just rubs YOU the wrong way. That happens. But if her music really was boring, people wouldn't be buying it. Almost every singer in history can be described as ''doing the same old trick in every song'' ...it's called a singer's personal style. It could be said of Carey, Houston, Aretha, Ella etc etc etc. Most of those don't even write their own songs. Not even in collaberation. And btw unlike many billed with writing credits...hers are linked to mostly the one guy instead of a six to ten men producer team and anyway as yet have not been discredited.
As for her not doing enough for her fans''...that would be up to said fans to judge. And they certainly are not complaining.
Possibly because Adele fans tend to be a bit older than those of most pop stars and have different sensibilities. Many actually like a singer who is about ya know...singing. rather than silly hype and visuals.

  18. she was drowned out but i love the song....sadly for me thats about all i liked about the new james bond film. bring back guys with metal teeth haha. and i would be interested in hearing a lana del rey bond song :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. The orchestra is supposed to "drown her out" it's the style of the song, it's purpose, it's intent. The song is more about the music than the actual vocals. The feeling and emotion crescendo so effortlessly, its beautiful. I feel like the vocals are supposed to be a garnish as opposed to the main.

Did anyone else think that was a missed note at 3:52 or was it just me? GREAT performance overall though!

    ReplyDelete
  20. had no idea what a dame was... unless yesterday. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh Good One! A Lana del Rey Bond tune might be real interesting. But I fear not for the Opening sequence.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's big in the UK. CBE's are fairly common but ''Dame'' not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I figured that out when I wiki'd it. :o

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm daaaaaiying to hear that. and I still have a weird thing for wanting a Lana and Marina collab! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. I realized but others reading might not have bothered. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I really don't care if she got drowned out by the orchestra set....her vocals still managed to knock my socks off.

  27. Fantastic blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers?
I'm hoping to start my own blog soon but I'm a little
lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like Wordpress or go for a
paid option? There are so many options out there that I'm totally confused .. Any suggestions? Thank you!

  29. Adele's 21 tops 2012 global chart

  30. Though it pains me to say I didn't like Babs' performance that night :(

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, there is something called voice volume. If you are singing in 'piano' and is not enough, you should switch your volume to 'forte' or 'fortissimo', in that way you can always unsure that you have the right volume. Of course, not many vocalist can sing all the notes in all the volumes and intesities, but again she is supossed to be able to do such thing. Real singers are not dependent on their mics.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh yes they are, mister Nahu. One of your faves- Christina Aguilera- is supposedly unable to project above a piano without a mic. What say you? Is she not a real singer?

In any case, you should do some research. May I suggest CVT? What Adele mainly does, IMO, is curbing and MLN. Curbing can only be done at medium volumes.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey, Aguilera is actually able to switch between any volume and tone within seconds. :-D Her technique might be questionable at times (I think she recently improved, though) but she's always had ability to sing at different volumes and tones without having microphone turned up (you can hear the difference, when she herself sings loudly and when she sings quietly but mic is set just loud enough). I can agree singers are dependent on mics, though. It would be impossible to scream through incredibly loud instrumentation without any . ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Get outta my head, right now. You stole my words. Now I have nothing else to comment.

By the way, will you merry me?

    ReplyDelete
  35. it's actually possible to sing above instrumentation. what else did opera singer do back in the day?

Yes, yes, I understand that Christina can do things with her voices- but she is still unable to project.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Not sure Reiko is the one to merry you. Often feel she is no more merry than you are. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well there is something called being nervous and not projectile vomiting on peoples faces. It happens when you are performing to billions of people and your nervous system gets the best of you! But again everyone somewhat suffers from this Nahu!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Its still not projection but its perfection in my eyes!!

  40. that was underwhelming to say the least and i dont really get - and you can barely hear her during the choruses - the only exciting part was towards the end at around 3:45

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hilariously...mine was a joke on your spelling mistake. And even reading that didn't clue you in???
On another note...have you ever spoken to a professional about your tendency of seemingly only being able to relate to others in one specific way?

And like was pointed out in a musical and empathic tune by a certain rock band Luiz..''You can't always have what you want'' :-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Girl, I got you. I knew you were joking, but I guess you didn't know I was too. hahahaha. Don't take my "spelling mistake" to serious, cuz I don't. As we all say it here in Brazil: "I was born to complicate things, not to explain then". That's me.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Adele did a poor job. Shame! And the song is too simple and amateur to win an Oscar. What's happening to the world?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Lol way to be proud of being lazy AND stay in character to the end.
But no worries! I am not taking anything you post serious. Just doing some friendly sparring with you as you seem to be able to deal with it well. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Have you HEARD the usual song oscar winners? Though I actually think this is a deserving winner, generally speaking those movie people know fuck all about music. That much has been clear for decades.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree with everything you say. but I wear fur and I'm not rich LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well at least she isn't punishing us with scratchy yelled vocals anymore. And that's great news.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree, that surgery has certainly done wonders for her!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I kinda secretly wish mariah would get it... though I'm sure her voice would be trickier since she's always had nodules.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think it could work for her, considering how long she has been seeing her doctors, I think they (if skilled enough) could remove enough of the nodules to get her back to her former state vocally (by leaving a natural amount for her). But I can totally understand why she wouldnt want to risk losing range ect. I guess as she ages however it might have to become an option, but for now she sounds in pretty good voice. Especially the unedited version Almost Home.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Totally agree, the last worthy winner I can think of is Annie Lennox for 'Into The West'

    ReplyDelete
  52. Love you Stuey but just...No. That was the year of Scarlet Tide and You will be my ain true love were amongst the nominees. Both imo better songs.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yes it would be amazing if Mariah got vocal surgery! When I hear her live now I always feel like she struggles to get through the first passagio. Her very high notes are fine, it's the transition between chest and mix that is tricky. And she has good and bad vocal days but the difference between the two is bigger than a lot of singer.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yes but you change the artistic and emotional delivery of the song if you switch to an other vocal mode or volume. Microphones are there to pick up nuances and subtleties.

    ReplyDelete
  55. im sorry but i cant help to feel that adele is one of the most overrated vocalists of our generation - shes an awesome singer but to me nothing spectacular and the fact that people praise her as is her voice is of the caliber of mariah's is insane

    ReplyDelete
  56. Of course, to put that feeling in the proper perspective, you also feel Gaga is ''one of the best singers in mainstream'' ;-D

    ReplyDelete
  57. yes and i agree with that statement - which is my honest opinion - adele has a darker more soulful tone
but gaga is a much more versatile singer

and this is my opinion - i dont want anyone attacking me for how i feel

oh and another thing, every comment i see from you is either you belittling others for their opinion or verbally attacking someone and implying that you have more credibility than them - who exactly do you think you are?

there is no doubt in my mind adele is a great singer i just feel there are more capable singers out there

    ReplyDelete
  58. Of course you agree with that statement. Least, I should hope so....it was in quotes because it was your own statement.
Now, I simply placed it next to your statement on Adele.
I did not say anything about either statement. Figuring people can make up their own mind abot the feelings you decided to share with the world. On an open blog, where others might react. Where, considering there are thumbs up/down below each comment, the implications is that the whole idea is for people to react.

I think your criticism of my opinions is quite ironic, seeing as the crux of your comment I responded to, was to criticize people who rate Adele highly. Complaining of those people rating Adele in the same category as a Mariah Carey. I simply showed that you yourself put Gaga in the same category as Mariah and Kelly Clarkson. Indeed! I feel that is a claim deserving derision. I didn't even express much of that. I decided to let your words speak for themselves.
That would be someone disagreeing with your statements in the most polite manner possible.

My question would be...where do you come off criticising my exercising a right guaranteed to me in the universal human rights declaration?

I think it's very telling that everytime someone complains about my words it is some stan who tried to argue me and failed. Who incidentally rarely are seen admonishing people who call others names.

    ReplyDelete
  59. the reason why gaga got so big was because of her antics but also because she was the most interesting and capable performer (dancing and singing live) not to mention her great acoustic renditions of her own songs

so for you to say that the only reason why she has gotten big is because of her costumes isnt completely true - i mean she has sold more than 30 million albums - and regardless of what you think of her music she has proven time and time again she is a capable vocalist who can adapt to many genres of music

oh and im not even a gaga stan - i just think shes underrated
i only stan for the queen mariah

    ReplyDelete
  60. and with that said

i do think adele is overrated - but i cant help but appreciate her awesome voice

    ReplyDelete
  61. Maybe you should read more carefully. I did not say anything about why Gaga ''got big''. Nor did I mention costumes in particular.

I said she failed to get noticed on basis of musical aspects alone. The way Adele DID manage to do.
I was referring to the start of her career.

My contention is because she is indeed a capable vocalist. The problem is...there are a great many capable vocalists. ''Capable'' alone doesn't jump out.

And, let's face it...she is not conventiionally ''pretty'' so that doesn't help either if amongst the other capable vocalists there are many who do fit that conventional view.

Adele vocally jumps out way more amongst the crowd of capable vocalists. And her songs, equally, jump out more from the mass.

Btw guess I misunderstood your rating system there. I always understood '''capable'' to refer to average rather than the best.
Always thought the ''best'' are more than just capable. They are...the best.
