[New Music] Sophie Ellis-Bextor "Young Blood"

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has had a long career foraging in the genre of electro-pop for her stack of hits, but the demo of new song Young Blood suggests the former model is ready to move on and turns a corner towards the AC market with album number five. Clearly aware of how different the sound is, the singer took to her website to comment on this change, saying:
I can’t wait to share the new music with you. I’m really excited about it. It’s not a dance record, or a pop record, but something a bit different. I still love dance and pop music and I will be doing more of that further down the line but sometimes you’ve got to challenge yourself a bit by trying something new. Let’s go on an adventure together!

As much as I love electro-pop Sophie, listening to Young Blood has got me all excited about this new project. With a clearer focus being placed on the lyrical content, as well as Sophie's voice, this could be the era where her abilities as a songwriter and a singer is finally realised.

Take a listen to Young Blood below, and if you enjoy it feel free to download it by following the instructions in the box below the video! Whoop!

  1. I enjoyed that. Good melody. Nice singing.
But it strikes me not all that very different from the other stuff. Main difference is the dance/drum beat If you think those away, the older three songs I think would sound very much like that new song.
Does she write her own stuff. Or always use the same writer(s)?

  2. I am biased because I love dance and pop, so I prefer her other stuff :P. But this is not bad. She has a beautiful voice.

  5. I have always liked Sophie, her voice is different, quite refreshing yet cozy on the ears too, it makes for an interesting listen indeed!

This song is lovely and showcases what she can do vocally pretty well, I do like her dance orientated stuff too but it's good to see she is branching out with her sound. Here is my favourite song of hers....
