[Music Video] Mariah Carey "Almost Home"

mariah carey almost home oz

Mariah Carey is serving up "good face" in the video for her Oz: The Great & Powerful tie-in, Almost Home. Just like back in Kansas, Mariah's segments are shot entirely in black and white, with the Diva left to hold our attention with her expressive self and a chair...riveting stuff. ( see some of my favourite "moments" in Gif form below)

These scenes are contrasted nicely with inter-spliced clips from the actual movie, which are presented in glorious (techni?)colour. I'd really have loved to have seen some Carey in Oz moments, especially since this was the perfect excuse for her to embrace her "eternally 12" side, but it wasn't to be.

The video for Almost Home is clearly budget, but it's a simple and elegant movie tie-in that works well enough. The only real problem I have with it is Mariah's sexy poses and strange "Pow" moments, all which seem slightly inappropriate and out of place. I guess ain't nothing going to stop Mariah from doing Mariah. Not even a kid's film.....

Check out the visuals for Almost Home below, and let me know what you think in the comments.

  1. I already liked the song but why does music videos make the song better than they first seemed.... Anyways, her belts at the end were so stellar..... Especially when she did that crazy riff on the E5 at the end.

  2. Liked the whole thing but Mariah to me just looks reallly akward in the gif at the Bottom Right. I liked the simplistic nature of the video. And Mariah is still being herself lol with all of the poses and the shots being of her good side. If you follow mariahs facebook check out her new profile picture. She seemed to have picked out her own favorite snapshot of the video lol.

  3. Always like b/w photography. And it must have made the photoshopping of her uderarms at, anyway 02.25, easier.
Generally looks to me like pretty much standard fare...this video. Enjoyable but generic. Mariah looked good though.

  4. I liked the preview clip more than the actual video.

Hey, DD, did you watch the movie? The version of the song used in the end-credits is different from the single version :D

  5. You know me, I adore Mariah. Its unconditional and this song and video do not dent that love in any way!

I agree the video does look cheaper than her usual classy fare but I think it works with the intersections of the actual movie, she also looks incredible (no surprises there)

As for the song? Its managed to claw its way to number 2 in my most played mp3 player list, behind Kelly. This is no mean feat. I just love it! That is all :)

  6. Im going to see it tonight and I definitely hear the difference! The song is slower and the vocals are different.

  7. Why must they always include a music video? >_>

  8. How can't some people understand that she's acting just like one of the classy and sexy witches in the movie? GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're all so stupid. The video is GREAT!

  9. Now if it manages to topple Kelly I will be worried. I heard it's the first sign of the apocalypse!

  10. OMG , I honestly thought that the vocals in the single version sounded slightly chipmunk- like they'd been sped up. The end credit version sounds like the right speed, and the voice sounds more like Mariah! I'd love to hear a high quality version of that.

  11. I was totally gna gif that moment!! Think I actually might go back and do it now !

  12. I agree with you, it made me like the song more...not sure why either.

  14. You people are so dramatic.

Whitney Houston's "I will always love you" sounds diffrent in the end credits too. The original track is powerful and stronger. Shame on you!

    ReplyDelete
  15. So its shameful for them to like one version better?

  16. @facebook-1661795740:disqus , you realize that was only one person's opinion right yet you just stated that were all stupid even if you had no factual base to determine whether or not we agreed with the opinion? DD never said the music video wasn't great, which it is. It is only meant to serve one purpose, advertise a movie.....and it does this extremely well....

  17. The only thing I would change in the music video would be, instead of Mariah simply using a chair, she'd be spinning around and twirling her arms around a massive carne style buffet of Renascence style France....but that's just me...Food makes every music video better for some reason.

  18. William, I think Luiz misses me and is trying to reach out. ;-)

  19. I know :). This is his second pointless insult on this post.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yep. Don't know why he is going through such trouble though? Surely he knows if he just posted those insults to me, I'd oblige? ;-)
Guess I am no longer enough for him. :-( :-(

  21. Lol food makes Everything better. ;-)

  22. Haha everyone loves to debate opie I saw you on the whitney post and the adele post. Your popular sparing partner on this site :).

  23. I'm fine debating on the computer but in real life, I can get very heated....lol I gotta work on that. The last time I debated was at school over video game violence and.....lets say I flunked that journalism assignment, got sent to the principal's office, and got 3 days home suspension....

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's always easier on computer. Gives you more time to select the words. Though tbh..I'm a pretty fierce debater in real life aswell. I was raised to question and think and unfortunately have a sibling raised the same way but with often quite different views than mine.:-)

  25. Lol I don't think ''popular'' is the word most of my adversaries would use.
That particular one seemed to prefer ''cynic''. Why he thought I, a selfproclaimed cynic, would disagree with that one...I do not know. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can't explain how I am. I question everything, plus with the rebellious stage of life, on top of my hair-switch temper= a crazy equation that my counselor at school warrants for a psychiatric specialist, although I don't think the problem is that bad. I have had perfectly fine debates before but the video game violence one was the one that set me off....especially when you have girls who have never played a video game in their life just sitting there making up dumb things to say. lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well...I hear you on that Black Robin. People arguing from ignorance are amongst the most infuriating. Especially when they are stubbornly refusing to remedy their ignorance. These days of the internet ignorance is so easily cured if one is willing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Lol, Yeah...I argue with people on youtube all the time over stuff when people think they know stuff but don't... The'll learn ( hopefully)....

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm assuming you've watched it by now.

I FEEL SO SORRY FOR THEODORA. SHE AND OZ ARE MY OTP <3

    ReplyDelete
  30. Now that's just sad. What? You were afraid to type the whole word? Or perhaps once again you were unsure of the correct spelling? Or maybe it was that supposedly Brazilian laziness?

See Luiz...I am always willing to oblige your masochism. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ah...the optimism of youth! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Haha, Opie your not a cynic just a person who knows how to defend their point.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm better in person I'm more of a laid back debater

    ReplyDelete
  34. BAUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! BURN!!!!!!!!!!!! Wait, I gotta keep it mature...

    ReplyDelete
  35. I wish I was that way....

    ReplyDelete
  36. Haha sometimes its good to be outspoken.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I see we are going the mature route

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nooooononono. I didnt see it yet! XD Plans got changed at the last minute. LALALALALALALALALALALA lol

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh you seem a pretty laid back debater on here as well. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I know :) which doesn't work well when debating online

    ReplyDelete
  41. I thought you and I had a couple of laid back debates? If you define a civil argument with differing views as a laid back debate, that is.:-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah that is true :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh Opie... I love you more and more every time!

    ReplyDelete
  44. It sounded so natural and just real the official record of course sounds so much processed like a Kesha song. I think that the reason why they engineered the real sound is to capture the youth since the horny teens nowadays like chipmunk music

    ReplyDelete
  45. At first i thought it looked awkward but as i kept on watching me it just grew up on me and enchanted me so much i love you mariah and i have to say that she's almost gone from that horrible triumphant song lol. i wonder when will she going to perform this?
anyway lambs do not forget to vote for her here http://www.vh1.com/shows/series/top_20_countdown/vote.jhtml?xrs=rally
and watch the video in youtube too let's make this her 19 number 1 in billboards

  46. hahahaha You REALLY think you can mess with my nerves.... hahahahah NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Go find yourself a good woman.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh sweet Luiz, I told you before..I'm just friendly sparring with you because I think you are able to deal with it. I would not think this all is seriously rattling your nerves? :-)

Not so sure anymore though. All those capitals dude, they indicate a case of 'the lady doth protests too much''.
    Hope you are just playacting?

Btw what makes you think I haven't found the best of women already.

    ReplyDelete
  48. talking to me is like bitter sweet. You never know. Date tonight? Smack!

    ReplyDelete
  49. That dating reply seems to have become your standard way of admitting...you've got nothing. An admission of defeat. :-)
I may not be rattling your nerves but your brain....clearly is rattled. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  50. oh, thank U. You're so kind! LOL!

Sorry, but I have to go. I got to prepare a cake to some dear friends of mine. It is so hard to quit talking to you. You're my boo. hehehehehehehehehehehe

    ReplyDelete
  51. Look at you!! Your reputation proceeds you, Opie!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Obviously. That's why you keep talking when really...you've got nothing to say. Hope your cakes are better than your retorts. :-) Ya know...I'd be perfectly fine with you sending me cakes rather than these empty replies. ;-)

  53. I am a lot less amused at ''freespirit'' calling me names and throwing insulting insinuations my way now that I know that sublimely deserving winner of the title Hypocrite Of The Year went and ran to you to complain about my language. Tbh

    ReplyDelete
  54. Okay now ive seen it. AND I AGREE THEY REALLY SCREWED HER OVER SHE WAS SO INNOCENT HER SISTERS A HOE. Me and my friends could not get over how hoodrass and thug that little china girl was. She carried her own knife and stole stuff! XD

    ReplyDelete
  55. BUT DO YOU SEE WHY SHE AND OZ ARE MY OTP?

I'm going to dump my opinions on you now :D

Yeah, Evanora was just a bitch. But I thought the casting was appropriate.. seeing as how Rachel Weisz lookskinda like Idina Menzel (or am i the only one that thinks that? Lol.)

I honestly felt that the china girl was a little bipolar :P .one moment she's scared, the next she's bloodthirsty.

And the Oz/Glinda thingie was really stupid. She was a boring flat character with whom he had no romantic development whatsoever. I felt the kiss at the end was just kinda tacked on tbh. It was so obvious he only liked her because she looked like Annie. Not a healthy start to a relationship, which is probably why they split up by the time Dorothy got there.

Which leads me to another point: I cannot believe he sent Dorothy to kill Theodora. I thought he was a 'good' person now.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The plot for this movie isnt too strong. I liked the allusions to the original characters. This Glinda was the most flat but I really liked this version of Theodora. I dont consider them my OTP because Oz was just....a douche to her. They didnt really fit in my opinion. Evanora was just a iuygkuhlijhpuo

    ReplyDelete
  57. Still not enough to kiss your ass though. ;-)
We'll see after you sent me that cake.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yeah, I guess you're right... I kinda overlooked his douchery because he was hot. I mean, James Franco hellooooooo...

But don't you know anything? The guy is always a douche to the girl (at first.)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I second this, James Franco! Mmmm but I also (As a fully gay male) think that the female leads in this film are stunningly beautiful. Rachel, Sienna and Mila are absolutely gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah- but the wizard was just an overall douche! lol. He only offered her sanctuary should she change her ways because he felt sorry for her! Even knowing how it was going to end for her- I still felt nothing but compassion and sorrow for Theadora. She was just so naive and pure. Even though she was innately destructive- if she had met Glinda before the Wizard I feel that she would have been saved.
