[Free For All Friday]

Free For All Friday time- can you believe it's been three weeks since the last one!  Today I will mostly be looking for a gap in the rain to run out to the shops! Screw it, waiting is for chumps! (Goes to look for an umbrella).

If you don't know the score, here be the rules:
  • Try not to get too perverted-this site still needs to basically be "safe for work".
  • If somebody starts a controversial subject, try keeping it civil when dealing with it. If things get out of hand please flag the conversation.
  • It would be nice if it stuck to music, but it's not a requirement! So talk about news, current events, how you're getting your hair done next time you hit the hairdresser! Whateves, really!
  • No nasty comments aimed at other users.
Inappropriate hugs to all y'all and wishing you an awesome weekend!

  5. While I don't believe that the song is racist it seems to me more of an unjust indictment of hip hop, I can see where Veronica is coming from. I think this article made dislike Lorde more especially after reading this article http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/512996/20131011/lorde-diss-selena-gomez-one-direction-taylor.htm . She just seem like a little annoying teen who criticizes anything that doesn't fit her liking.

  6. I'm getting jealous over these cute and intelligent cats when every cat I've owned has either been mauled by a rouge owl or killed by an attacking car tire.... I'm moving to Europe... It seems the smart cats are all born there.

  7. Songs I've discovered thanks to people here and that I'm so thankful I was introduced to because I'm damnly addicted:

Opie Ever -> Whiskey lullaby http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZbN_nmxAGk (Just one word: beautiful)

Thedigblackbick -> Aftershock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxHB3jKqiiA (Not my style at all, but I really like it, puts me in a ver good mood ^^)

Random person posting at Amy Lee's page -> Snow White Queen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-07E8_0_6Ps (It's creepy as hell... but I love it)

Random person posting at that performance post where Mariah was about to cry while singing -> I'm OK http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quAFmNvk_Zs (He said that Christina was never emotionally able to sing this live, and I underestand why...)

DD -> Open arms http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lLmYLw0WRI (Another beautiful ballad, I'm falling in love with this band=

  11. I'm curious, how ARE we getting our hair done these days? I'm curious, because I feel like my hairstyle is just boring and I want something that looks nicer and I guess less basic haha.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ok, I get what you're saying now. The cut for that is going to have to taper from the rear forward and since I have no experience with hair other than African and Messo textures LOL. But I do know about cutting in layers and relaxed or straight hair can be cut the same. Gawd I would just melt to be able to play with some Asian hair... LOL I'm sorry. But, also there is to Design Essentials hair lotion that I use and it suits all textures. It holds my hair but IDK if it'll hold yours. Also its 20$ a pop. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  13. Good to know, I will definitely keep that in mind. But hey, come on over and play with my hair anytime, I love when people do my hair ahahah because it's better than what I can do. i'll probably take a pic of Zac Efron and tell her to make me beautiful like him. Speaking of, where do I get facial reconstruction surgery to make me look like him?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Please don't get plastic surgery. LOL You look beautiful! But I'm growing my hair out so I can get dreadlocks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I agree with BlackRobin..you look nice. No plastic surgery for you.
Personally I think the long hair often looks good on Asian guys. But then again, I just might be to fond of Chinese fight movies that are set in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  16. haha thank you both. But I think the one thing I don't really want is long hair though. it does look nice on a lot of guys but I just don't think it's for me. But my hair does grow very fast though, one more month and I'll be Jackie Chan.

    ReplyDelete
  17. My hair is shoulder length right now and I have good and bad hair days lolll. It's a pain to care. Sometimes the ponytail is the only way to go :P. I considered many times to shave and get a lacefront hahahaha. for shorter hair it really depends. If you're very fashion forward you can try the super slick center part or side part, I've seen it a lot on the season's runways. If you're more like casual you can try an effortless style.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well on the first article the writer really blows things out of proportions lol. She is not really hating, she is certainly being critical but except for One direction it's not insults.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Be careful you don't wanna get moldy dreads :P.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh nooooo. LOL. Everyone in my family has dreadlocks so I want some. They taught me everything. Like washing your hair every 2-4 days, moisturizing your roots, and not being afraid of a deep conditioner and an up ponytail. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  21. Japonese singer Utada Hikaru covering "Loving you". And dumb people still think it's Mariah! LOL! NO ONE can reach Mariah's level.

    ReplyDelete
  22. did you have to bring this bitch up?

    ReplyDelete
  23. That was very painful to listen to. Mention of Mariah is a joke, Mariah can sing better than that on her worst days with a sore throat.

Don't understand why people think they can imitate Mariah by merely whispering, whereas there's SO much more to her tone and overall execution.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I really enjoyed this performance. The emotional and honest side the comes out of her during this performance really hits me. I can completely relate to that song. I love Xtina <3

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm not a fan of the Blaine Anderson slick down. And center parts are DEFINITELY not for me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If I remember correct, in your icon picture you were nearly bald. It's gonna be a while till you get dreads haha.

  29. Not really. My hair was an inch long but now it's two inches. Once it gets about 3 inches long in another 6 weeks, I can start growing them.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't think Hikaru wanted to sound like Mariah, but people ALWAYS compare Mariah to EVERYONE. There's always a "Mariah vs someone" on youtube and every other musical channel. People say mariah is over and done, so why do they keep on talking about her?

Mariah's voice is very rare kind. And yes, Georgia can do higher but have u ever heard her singing Mariah's songs? She can't make her whistles sound "musical" as Mariah's do. Mariah can even speak "in whistles". And her voice is special not just because of them - her tone, "colours" and originality is somthing that some people still don't understand, or just don't want to. Georgia Brow is a whistles blower, just that - not a singer. Watch how horrible she sounds when she's not just whistling:

  35. Is anyone else LOVING miley's digs at that Irish lunatic who keeps sending her letters?

    ReplyDelete
  36. It had some of the most heart-wrenching moments of the show. The scenes with Kurt and his parents were amazing, all the songs were great. My only problem is that just few of the scenes and lines felt forced, but I guess it's understandable as it's hard to write an episode like that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think it's a little two sided. Sinead was definitely in the wrong for starting it, with slut-shaming and inappropriate criticism and shitty advice. And at first Miley was okay with just the casual digs, brushing off her shoulder and whatnot. But I feel like Miley took it a little too far when she had to poke fun at Sinead's mental disorder, she could've easily ignored it or come up with a witty reply without having to bring up sensitive comments.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Did you see her response in that Today show interview? I think she genuinely was a bit hurt by Sinead's actions. The mental issue was her initial response but after that she pretty much took the high road I'd say.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I definitely though her responses were amusing. But the best response came from Amanda Palmer
    http://amandapalmer.net/blog/20131003/

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sorry for your loss Leith. Much strength!

But I would advice you to keep such private pain out of open blogs. Especially ones frequented by trolls.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I loooove Amanda Palmer. She was the one who was spot on here.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I actually didn't catch that part on the interview. I rewatched it and I don't think she was exactly hurt, but just trying to tell people like "hey, I respect her, I don't wanna get into shit here."

    ReplyDelete
  43. I didn't mean she was still hurt at the time of the interview. I meant that I got the idea from her words that initially she was hurt and that's why that initial response was a bit nasty when subsequent responses were much milder.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh, gotcha. Makes sense actually.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I bet she can, pal. She can eat YOU ALL, couse it's gonna be the same smell and same taste. hahahahahaha

  46. HauntinglyHollow12 October 2013 at 23:22

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ws3zoOwSUc Amazing and terrible at once, she sounds so uncomfortable, is it just me ?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Well, everyone with eyes can tell that this woman is not a bitch, she has no fur, neither a nuzzle. Maybe you can't tell by that video-footage but she actually does walk on two feet instead of four. Jokes aside, I really can't see a reason for your prejudgemental behaviour as in you calling her names such as various other artists. You probably have never even met her, nor did you have personal issues with this lady (you can always prove me wrong), so that doesn't qualify you for judging her and even more so calling her a bitch. If you haven't understood my little (yes, I do admit, not funny) joke, here is the proper definition of a literal bitch:

bitch = "a female dog, wolf, fox, or otter."
    "a female of canines generally."

    ReplyDelete
  48. Even after 3 times, 'Make You Feel My Love' still makes me end up crying and sobbing rivers and Ryan Murphy said that they would use mostly first takes for that episode since it was really hard for the actors to play...

    ReplyDelete
  49. as a joker myself, U think I wouldn't understand that weak one? Please.

Hear what THE GREAT Mary J Blige has to say about this BITCH:

  58. Good to hear....

  59. I found this amazing fusion of arabic and spanish music, it's called the wadih/José project made in 2001. I found out that the old man wadih died two days ago at the age of 92 :O can you believe he was 80 years old at that time?

    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=86oVXFfk0ts

    ReplyDelete
  60. Other than the fact that her voice sounds a little less "girlier" than the studio version (which is pretty common), I don't hear a lot of bad here. Her pitch and tone is actually better than I expected here, since there's a bit of autotune in her songs, similar to Ke$ha. I don't hear a lot of discomfort, maybe a little out of breath by the end, but she never went on a full tour for her first album, only a few supporting acts, and that was two years ago, so maybe she's not used to the whole constant performing yet.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Simple Plan is absolutely amazing. I think I speak for everyone here when I say I hope the best for you. It's never easy losing a loved one, and I'm sending you my positive thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh believe me, I know. The girl sounds like hell. If I'm not mistaken, her voice was probably used for some sort of exorcism. Hell, that's an insult even to Satanism.

And there's nothing wrong with being compared; it's quite natural for that to happened, otherwise there would be no standard ground to measure up to or model after to make further progressions. As for over and done? Please. Mariah Carey is something that no more than 4% of musical artists could ever dream of being: TIMELESS. That's a testament to how truly & extraordinarily talented she is. #MariahAin'tWorr'dBoutNun - #ThoseNiggasAin'tOnNun lol

    ReplyDelete
  63. Por que tiene que trabajar en su espanol? Es muy bien, no?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Cheer up fuckface :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Can someone plz describe Mariah Carey's technique?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Problem is...this isn't a Spanish blog. It's in English.

    ReplyDelete
  67. it's possible to be wagnerian soprano with coloratura technique?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thank you ^^ but don't worry, it's not a "private" pain, it actually isn't a pain anymore, I moved on time ago, so whatever a troll has to say is not gonna bother me (I'd actually feel bad for him for having to troll on something like this).

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thank you ^^ don't worry, that's part of the past and I'm already over it. Anyway if youb ever feel like giving your condolences to someone don't hesitate to do it, even if you don't know that persona, it always helps :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Simple Plan is my band, I think I'll never feel more connected with any other artist in the world (Although Christina comes really close) And as I said to Opie and Ricky, don't worry, it's not something that hurts anymore, I'm over it, but I felt the need to at least post it. Anyway, thank you for the support ^^

    ReplyDelete
  71. It didn't feel too forced to me, only the part when Puck and Beiste were screaming, but then he started crying and he totally looked like a little indefense kid, I really liked it. My favourite scenes were the ones with Santana, specially the one yelling at Sue. I just wish it had been longer to see everyone's reactions...

    ReplyDelete
  72. I've heard that the part when Santana chokes while singing wasn't scripted, that she really started crying and couldn't keep on singing. Anyway, it felt very real.

    ReplyDelete
  73. OK so I just had this idea while I was in the shower. Free For All Fridays are almost every two weeks, so why don't we set some goals today and we see if we can reach them before the next FFAF? For example, my goals for the next FFAF would be:

-Finish one of my writings and look for a contest to participate in with it
-Gain at least half a kilo (Yeah, I'm the kind of person who makes diets to gain weight xD)
-Learn how to do the Moonwalk step
-Find a music academy so I can retake my singing lessons
-Keep up to date all my homework

-Hang out at least once with the guy I like (We go to the same gym, it shouldn't be too difficult)

And I have to achieve them before the next FFAF, when I will set some new goals. Is anybody up? ^^

    ReplyDelete
  74. Mary J Blige's Christmas album is coming, people. Listen to "When you wish upon a star" - a duet with the GREAT Barbra Streisend. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! Barbra is kelling me here.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Oh I wouldn't believe that particular troll he has been through that.
But I know from experience with such people on the net that as a "normal" person, you cannot predict how low some are willing to go and therefor sometimes they will hurt you even when you'd have been cool with whatever a normal person might say.

And the fact that this particular troll would claim to have been through that and use it in the manner he has...that goes to indicate you aren't dealing with a ''normal" person.
I mean, would you use your father in a negative manner during an internet fight you first went trolling for? I don't think you would Leith. :-)
What you are doing is commemorating and previously, fondly remembering ( remember what kind of response you got to that one! )

But of course..it is entirely your own choice. I just felt a little warning might raise awareness. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  76. Why is Celine Dion the MOTHER of the lip syncing "art"?

She can even move her throat, as if she was really singing. How is the technique? Please, I wanna know.

    ReplyDelete
  77. ¡Ay dios mio! Mi español es muy malo. ¡Basta, por favor!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Thank you for caring :D but anyway, it wouldn't bother me if that troll (or any other on the internet) said anything disrespectful about my father, I'd only care if it was someone close to me. And of course I'm not gonna use my father's death in the way he did, mostly because I wouldn't even start the fight, I consider myself a very pacific person, but if I ever use it that way, please shoot me! xD

    ReplyDelete
  79. Me parece que voy a tener que daros unas cuantas clases de español a todos ù_ú

(I think I'm gonna have to give some spanish classes to all of you ù_ú)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yeah, they do speak Portuguese. I'm lost too. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Well that's was a pretty obvious lipsync but then again my fave Britney's been doing it for 12 years lol.

    ReplyDelete
  82. ...I was being derisive =/

    ReplyDelete
  83. Actually the sentence you wrote was all correct (Although it's "mío" and not "mio" :P). I wouldn't mind to give you spanish lessons but I have absolutely no idea of where to start from xD (And also I'm a terrible teacher...)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Tu espanol es no malo :D

    ReplyDelete
  85. OK, sorry, as it's been proven before, I'm terrible at getting jokes ^^U

    ReplyDelete
  86. Because it's in English doesn't exempt one from using another language lol The point was to mirror him. "lo" was gone, note faw-goat-een :D

    ReplyDelete
  87. I was responding to what I gathered, through Google translate, to be the point of your remark.

Personally I'd prefer if the troll post his comments in Portuguese. Or Spanish. Or basically in any language I don't understand well enough to recognise that it's yet another foul mouthed trolling remark.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Ah, gracias. Tengo estudia con mí maestra del Puerto Rico.

Also, when addressing Puerto Rico, do I use a masculine or remind article.

    ReplyDelete
  89. No way, the best one is this Bon Jovi performance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjzsZP_ZmNo I love him but this a fail as big as a cathedral XD

    ReplyDelete
  90. You don't have to use use the masculine article in Puerto Rico ^^

    ReplyDelete
  91. LOLLLL ok that was very funny.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Sim, aqui nós falamos português (Yes, here we speak portuguese).

You are right. Only dumb people still think we speak spanish.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Great stage presence.

    ReplyDelete
  94. http://youtu.be/JIVe35qbAJc Christina Bianco tackles "all by myself" with her divas.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Tengo que* but who cares? Still, it excellently written. And masculine article isn't required. You can break a lot of technical rules if you truly get the logistics of it, you know? Like for example, I don't add any accent marks 'cause contextually it's easy to flow the idea based on the subject matter. People tend to go grammar Nazi on you for that...but they know what you mean, which is funny lol

    ReplyDelete
  96. Lol. I see your verdict!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Well it's normal, because she said in the past that Sinead was one of her inspirations. So to be attacked like that by someone she likes hurts.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Actually it's one of my biggest pet peeves. When people write comments in the wrong language.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Haha great! Hey btw are you on facebook?

    ReplyDelete
  100. I am cheery? hence the smiley faces. duuuh

    ReplyDelete
  101. No, she wouldn't. She would make a BIG favour to the mankind if she could eat a piece of shit like you outta this world.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I bet you do. She's crap - just like you.

    ReplyDelete
  103. That's what I mean. :-) It seems natural to me that one's initial response in such a case would be a lashing out from hurt feelings.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hahaha good come back!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Oh I don't mind if they do. Seems not very productive but I don't mind. What I do mind is trolling in a language you haven't mastered sufficiently. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  106. Not quite sure what that is supposed to mean?

    ReplyDelete
  107. To me, it felt like Rachel and Mercedes were really forced, it seemed like it was scripted and just not 100% sincere. But I think it's understandable, because sometimes it's hard to act out emotions like that, or to come up with good writing to support it.

    ReplyDelete
  108. OMG this is Hikaru at like 15 or 16. Utada's vocal range is no where near Mariah's. Also, Hikaru's voice was very under developed here, her low notes sound amazing though.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I like it but I think it'd be weird here to do it, and if no one else did it with us it'd be pretty damn awkward every two weeks haha. The moonwalk is actually a lot easier than it looks, I saw this simple two-step tutorial on Tumblr and I got it in two seconds. And good luck with this boy you like!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Just wondering, who here is a fan of Pentatonix? Their normal videos are great, but they post videos on vine showcasing some of their lesser known talents too, Kirstie has a whistle register, and Scott is amazing at runs, and they've all definitely got range for days.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Im more of a fan of Scott because his just way more likable.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Mitch also has the whistle register, able to reach a Bb7, you can also hear some notes and runs on Mitch and Scott's channel 'Superfruit', it's a vlog-channel :) And did you hear Scott's 'I should tell your mama on ya' ? It's really cool !

    ReplyDelete
  113. Well, I just suggested it because a bit of social pressure always works on me with this kind of stuff (It's easy to make me feel guilty of not doing something I should ^^U). Of course, if I'm the only one to do it, I'll keep it for myself, but I thought it could also be a way to get to know each other here a bit better. About the guy... hell, I wish there was a way to know if someone is gay, it'd make things way easier u.u

    ReplyDelete
  114. Story of every gay's life... >.<

    ReplyDelete
  115. Rachel didn't look forced to me, but it was really disappointing. I thought she would talk about how bad she felt for cheating on him, of how she regrets not telling him she loved him... and then an amazing cover of My Immortal or Hurt whose lyrics would really fit the situation. Anyway, alongside with the shooting episode that was the only one that made me hold my pillow so strong lol

    ReplyDelete
  116. So was the concern on their faces actually real? someone said that her break down actually changed the course of the entire episode, can you approve that?

    ReplyDelete
  117. It still doesn't qualify you to insult Christina. Mary J Bliges bad experience with Christina has nothing to do with you. You'll first have to meet Christina in order to bring in a verdict about her, and by that I mean a non-insulting one :)

I hope you get my point because I think that mocking on people and putting them down isn't only hurting them but you as in being surrounded by way too much negative energy, it only makes you bitter

    ReplyDelete
  118. Yeah, but if he's still in the closet it will be worthless... anyway, how do you ask someone that indirectly?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Never date anyone in the closet. It never ends right... If you do you are gonna find yourself spread too thin and your partner often being victimized which seriously isn't worth the investment.

    ReplyDelete
  120. -_-... Stupid as hell to say...

    ReplyDelete
  121. You chat and give your opinion for instance on some hot guy. Not someone you know personally (he might think you are interested in that person instead LOL), you know a pop or movie star or some such and then ask him how he rates the guy re hotness factor.
But I am with BlackRobin...if he's in the closet..don't even go there.

    ReplyDelete
  122. In my opinion they're all really likable Unless you mean Scott is the most attractive, in which case I might agree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I felt like this episode wasn't really the one to bring up past subjects and mistakes, but rather just to honor Finn/Cory himself, so I'm glad there was none of that. I thought Make You Feel My Love was a good choice, I was kinda hoping for maybe a better one, but I can settle, Lea was the one to pick that song for herself, so I can't really argue.

  124. Yeah, she reached the Top 10 on Billboard in the 80s but I think that's as far as she went. She really does deserve to win. Her voice is so sultry on the lower end and very resonant with great intonation as she ascends, from a technical standpoint anyway. But yeah, she has it all. And at 54?! GOD!

    ReplyDelete
  125. She is so good I don't even care if she had a hit. She can sing. And I don't know to much about technical singing.

I can't wait to see more of her.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Couldn't agree more. More so than anything, those try-hard, DISCONNECTED runs lol Unbelievably unbearable. I see her as a one-trick pony, honestly. Her "whistles" are Falsetto, nothing wrong with that. Then, it's like her voice doesn't truly start 'til about G5. She excels from G5-G#5 but everything above/below are very inconsistent. She isn't interesting until she's in her upper register or executing 6th Octave "whistle" notes, which at times tend to be thin & shrill-sounding almost.

Her lower register is practically C4 because anything below is highly inaudible. Her terrible diction doesn't seem to help her either. Her mid belts don't project well at all, lack squillo, and don't resonate fully which is why she's easily drowned out in full blown compositions consisting of voluminous instruments. You only hear her well on acoustic. My point? She doesn't have a voice 'til around G5 and lacks a stamp that defines her. She's very Karaoke (and I mean VERY) lacks finesse & wit.

I just can't bring myself to board the idea that she has a great voice or that she's an "amazing" singer. She is good, though.

As for the presence thing. I somewhat disagree. Watching her at the listening sessions performing "Piano" (unarguably my favourate song of hers) she was exhibiting great presence. Feeling the music, making you feel it too, dancing & working the stage. I say she's getting a hang on it.

  131. LOL And that from the guy who enjoys calling every woman hoe and some "cunt", lies about a dead mother and then rejoices that mother is dead.

  134. Disqus is acting stupid on my tablet but I'll just restate it. I've been in a similar issue but mine was just....bad... It ended so caustically and I was so young but you know, you live and you learn then you crash and you burn. But the whole closet situation just irks me. The fact that I can somewhat spesak from experience though makes me feel like I accomplished something I never should have experienced which is terribly strange, to say the least...lol. There is some shit I just don't know how to explain.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Wao, it looks like everyone here has been through that before. Maybe it's because I haven't been there, but I don't think it can be THAT bad. It's not that he's ashamed of you, only that he's not ready to get out of the closet, I underestand that some people need more time. Anyway, I already asked him for his cell number and I'm planning to meet him and do some jogging. I'll try to bring the topic up so he knows I'm gay and then it'll be HIS TIME to make a move because I think I will have done enough already. If he doesn't then I'm not gonna bother anymore because it's not that I like him a lot, it's just a little crush.

By the way, we're going out of the topic, does anybody else join my idea for the FFAF?

    ReplyDelete

  138. Wait, so you're Gay/Bi?

    ReplyDelete
  139. what in the world is a "gallinagger"? ._.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Yes. But I'm just gonna get a tablet a bit more capable at pushing 32 bit applications. Hell, there is a new Lenovo tablet that has a new 14nm dye size for its chipsets with full X86 compatibility for 300 bucks. Seems like a sweet deal and a great Christmas present for a high school senior.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I noticed that there are quite a few low lyric or darker soprano voices that often get mistaken for mezzos, some even contraltos. Janelle Monae, Nicole Scherzinger, Katy Perry, and Charlotte Church are all sopranos. Janelle Monae is a full lyric with a great, well rounded lower register. Nicole Scherzinger is a light-lyric soprano with a slightly darker tone. However, anything below A#3 has little resonance but she can support it fair enough. Katy Perry is a light lyric soprano as well but has very poor technique over all. Typical of nearly all sopranos, she has little resonance below A#3 and her belts only get big above D5. She just has a relatively thick tone which lead even some to believe she is a contralto. Charlotte Church is a full-lyric soprano along similar lines of Janelle Monae. Both have above average lower registers for sopranos and are predominantly upper 4th lower 5th octave belters which lead many to beleive they are mezzos rather than sopranos.

The key to finding out if a singer is a high mezzo or a soprano of some kind is to try to find the first falsetto break. Generally a mezzo would be between E4-G#4. A soprano would be A4-C#5. That is the most dead even give away, then comes tessitura (And for pop, remember it is generally going to be several notes lower than in classical music) and lastly timbre color.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Niiiiiiiiiiiice. And it depends on which Lenovo you get because depending on the model, the amount of RAM varies. Some are highly limited to 32 bit systems. So, for example, 4GB is limited to 32 bit. Why not go for the new Surface Pro 2? It's a better choice not just conveniently but also consumer-wise. That's what I'm betting on for Christmas,

    And you're a Senior? I despise you -__- lol

    ReplyDelete
  143. Because ain't no body got 899$ for a surface pro 2. LOL.... And yeah I'm a senior. Why? I'm getting a new laptop which is totally 64 bit capable on top of a 32 bit tablet. I'm just trying to ditch android and explore Linux.

  144. In my defense (As co writer of the article) This was written before her debut album was showcased and was based off of very low quality videos on youtube (when she was much more powerful and resonant all throughout her voice). Im happy you took the time to show your critique of young Arianas voice and I will take that into consideration when I talk to DD about reworking this article.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Im gonna need to send in a rewrite for this article soon. :/

    ReplyDelete
  146. I noticed that the profile doesn't mention Ariana's talent for runs. Now I'm not an expert, but near the end of the song she definitely pulls some nice runs. They sound clear and quick and it goes pretty low actually, so I was wondering if that's something notable to put in the profile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewnhncpo64o

    ReplyDelete
  147. She needs to learn how to control them pronto before she goes around singing like that again - even she can tell that sometimes she's not doing it right and she admits that her voice was tired for a while after recording Emotions.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I'm more appalled by her poor intonation and lack of power and resonance. Maybe it's the camera but still...

    ReplyDelete
  149. Now that I think about it, it's true that Katy's lows are pretty weak. So she's not a contralto. Lady Gaga is though?

    ReplyDelete
  150. To put it in the easiest way possible, Gaga has a very womanly timbre from top to bottom. That is the trademark of a mezzo-soprano. She is a bit of a medium placed, medium sized mezzo-sorpano so she's in the middle of the mezzo-soprano range. Another girl in the middle of the mezzo-soprano range is Miley Cyrus but her timbre is quite different from Gaga's. Miley has rather womanly lows but extremely girly (Bright) highs. She also has a more malleable and elastic upper chest. Miley has a slightly higher tessitura than Gaga and is a more soprano-like mezzo. Don't get me wrong, she needs more polish though. Live, Miley can be hit or miss for some.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Both are sopranos.

Listening to PRISM by Katy. Still think she hasn't really moved from the bubblegum pop, contradicting to what she has stated that it would have been a "darker" album. Still, I recommend checking out "Birthday". Sorry too lazy to provide a link for you. :p

  159. In light of the two, the SP2 is a lot better in the long term. A qualitative device is always worth the price in my opinion. As far as Android, the market has been plummeting. Linux, I don't know too much about.

And nothing wrong with it, it's just that Seniors suck lol Nobody likes the upper classmates =D

    ReplyDelete
  160. Wait, you're younger than me? AWEEEEEEEE!!!!! But the only way I could get the SP2 is if I get off my lazy black ass and find me a job, and that aint happening for another 8 months. LOL. Oh and did you see the new iPad Air? LMAOOOOOO!!!! I wonder is it really "64 bit" like apple claims or is it stuck with 1 gig of ram like the iPhone 5s. It's not like their is any application to take advantage of the 152 GFLOPS capable GPU and the Cyclone cores on the device anyways. And the coding for the RAM on ARM based chips will always be disappointing compared to the higher end x86 chipsets. However I'm excited for the new 14 nm technology ARM has coming next. I think that will allow for ARM to implement an Intel like "hyper threading" system, so single core performance can not only get a few percent better, but double the performance even triple it. However, that is quite the undertaking.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Ummm, nooooo not exactly. Depends, because I turned 17 this August. But, I graduated class of 2013 (class of 2014 sucks by the way) lol I just sympathize with the Freshman & Sophomores seeing as they're more leveled & aren't as self indulgent the way most Juniors & Seniors are.

And What the hell is an iPad Air? That's something that's yet to surface my attention. Must not be too big a commodity, otherwise it would have been largely endorsed in adds & commercials and stuff. If it was I certainly didn't notice. And 14 nm??? Care to explain?

    ReplyDelete
  162. My birthday is on august 29th...lmao... Oh and the iPad air was announced yesterday. Its a redesigned iPad that's incredibly small and light.

See, current generation ARM devices use A15 encoding on a 28 nm dye process. The smaller the dye, the less energy is consumed and the higher the theoretical clock speed can be. So the next ARM processor to come out is A57 and another that I'm forgetting. It shall have 22nm and 14nm technologies which can yeild
incredibly high clock speeds with virtually no energy consumption.

Qualcomm, Samsung, Huawei, Apple, and Nvidia have there own implementations, none being as wide spread as Qualcomm's offerings. And a new competitor has risen, called Mediatec. They used the incredibly old A7 Architecture with the newer 28 nm processing rather than the older more energy consuming 45 nm process. Qualcomm hasn't taking kindly to Mediatec and the reason why is because Qualcomm cares about per core performance which is why they use their powerful A15 based cores while Mediatec cares about the more cores, using their A7s for a cheep yet powerful alternative.

Its kinda like what AMD is doing to Intel. The AMD A10 was superior to the Core I7 ivybridge considering the cost of both chispets. But, still though the Qualcomm snapdragon S800 is far more powerful than the Mediatec Octacore chip set. I feel bad for Nvidia though. Not only did their Tegra 4 processor a Pentacore (quad core with companion core) A15 with a 72 core GPU flop, but it was even more powerful than the Qualcomm S800, according to synthetic benchmarks. But it was hella expensive, and is just now seeing the light if day. The 450$ Surface 2 with Windows RT is one of few devices to have the chispet. However, due to RT's lack of an app ecosystem all upper 32 bit power potential is wasted.

    ReplyDelete
  163. WOW LOL! I've got you by exactly 2 days haha! And You thought I was younger than you lol! & I've been looking at a few reviews, it's not going to be a heavy market I don't think.

Well that's good, 'cause the current installment being used is terrible. Run one app for only 10 minutes and practically a quarter of the life is gone. Ridiculous.

As for RT, it's fairly new. So I wouldn't say it's a waste, it's a matter of them further developing. Once it equalizes then the power can be distributed accordingly. Still, that technically isn't all that bad, though.

  164. She has no talent for Melisma, at all. Live, they're very disconnected. I've yet to see her execute intricate Melisma. & with ultimate agility? It's only moderate. An example of singers who have talent for Runs are Beyonce, Mariah, Jessie J, Scott Hoying, Sean S., & Smokie Norful just to name a few. Ariana, she's okay. I wouldn't go as far as saying "talent" for runs.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Okay, thanks for explaining. (:

    ReplyDelete
  166. You do realize that she is becoming a "POP" singer. All of those bitches are nasal. It's because they have to be. Literally everytime I sing any pop song I am forced to do it with a nasal quality. So it's not that you don't like the nasal, you love it. You simple don't like the tone of her voice in general.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I came off as a striaght BITCH....WOW o_0

Dude, you should've rebelled and cussed me out or something lol I came off as obnoxious as hell. I apologize. You seriously gotta tell me when I act like that, 'cause being an ass wipe quite naturally isn't in my reservoir. I sincerely apologize. I'm no one to "correct" you like that as talent is subjective. UGHHH, I hate myself! lol

    ReplyDelete
  168. ...um, NO. Whitney was a "POP" singer and she in no way sounds NASAL like Ariana LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  169. I thought you were harsh but I don't think you were a total bitch. But you said that her live melismas are disconnected and you gave some people for comparison, so at least you had something to actually back up your statement. But next time, I guess next time I'll point it out and bitch right back then haha.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I guess, but that was uncalled for. It was like a bubble buster out of malice, you know? I've no right to do that. I despise when people do that. I was selfishly knocking down an opinion with the idea that I was being factual by disagreeing with "evidence" lol I know if I gave an opinion on Kelly Clarkson and someone had the NERVE to challenge my opinion with the idea that they're being "factual" I'd have gone straight HAM lol

    ReplyDelete
  181. A bit? Ha! I can't stand the nasal quality to her tone. It's very distasteful. It's that annexed with the muffled sound that makes it hard to compromise the diction in which she sings. Something she definitely needs to work on is clarifying her diction. Where it stands, she sounds nasal/muffled. No wonder The girl sounds like she's got a truck-load of cotton balls in her mouth when she's singing lol
