Mariah Carey Stuns With Impromptu Performance For Fallon Contest Winners

Mariah Carey get a damn piano bar already! Every performance that I've seen with just yourself improvising over some keys has left me speechless! And this little "moment", an outtake from the Jimmy Fallon fan meet-up, was no different!

Strong lows, beautiful melisma (especially at 1.23), a cheeky whistle and plenty of Mariah's brand of Diva-ish humour made watching this impromptu performance a joy! It totally put a smile on this grumps face. Actually, I think it might just have cured me of this wretched flu! Hallelujah!

Thoughts?

  3. If that bitch delivers a real and raw live performance of this particular song, on a huge tv show or award show, I bet she still can save this flop.

  4. It's just a buzz single, it hasn't even been released to radio...

  5. I officially don't understand this era at all. Fortunately I will have Britney Jean in 1 week to help me lol.

  6. This is spectacular since we've been very doubtful of mariah these past years. this somehow lit our hope that she can still do it! anyway DD get well soon cause this site needs you

  7. "flawless"? I don't agree. I think mostly this shows she still has that gorgeous tone. But for instance 3.32-3.34 did not sound "flawless" to me at all.
And also, since she is improvising here, it's very easy to cover for stuff you know isn't going to work real well by simply quickly start talking and/or joking.

I think you Mariah fans are exaggerating a tad out of sheer enthusiasm over her actually at least managing a full 4 minutes of really Live performing and it being captured on video.

What are you even talking about? The notes were spot on.

    ReplyDelete
  9. "notes were spot on" ROFL sure dude, you can go on pretending if you want. She hit the note..it's flawless singing flabbergasting the likes of you. Enjoy it buddy! :-)

I seriously doubt you would be able to sing a full octave in tune, so your assessment is worth less than nothing. The only issue I heard was that the throat started to close as she went higher, but there was no actual strain or faulty intonation.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree, it was far from flawless. It does, however, give us delusional lambs hope that Mariah's vocal condition is improving.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Seriously buddy, stop straining for "notes" you can't reach..like the application of logic.
First... you have no factual data on my singing ability, second ...the ability to sing has absolutely fuck all to do with the ability to hear whether a performance is "flawless".
Third, I actually never stated why exactly it wasn't "flawless".

But hey...thanks to your "expert" words, we know have pinpointed it. Least that particular instance I pointed out..
    Cheers bud! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks for being the voice of rational thinking Reiko. I do get that hope. Personally I think the fact that she chooses to "improvise" to less ardent fans indicates, even if she is improving, she is far from her former level yet. It gives an awful lot of leeway you see.
And not saying this isn't a lovely video. Certainly her lyrical improvs were entertaining and her tone is gorgeous, as it always has been. :-)

  14. I love her improving too. I doubt anyone think this or any performance (from anyone) is 'flawless' but it was great, I love her ease especially at the beginning. I am guessing this was the same day she performed 'The art of letting go' several times for small groups of fans which means she is getting her endurance back

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah when we say flawless it's not literally flawless it just means great :P.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I know I was clarifying because I was going to write the same thing but wanted to make sure I clarified that I understand both the people who wrote she was flawless and those who pointed out the flaws.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think shes honestly trying hard to deliver to her diehard fans, instead of the general public. Even though it initially doesnt make much sense, I think from a business standpoint its a guaranteed hit. Maybe not a number 1 but shell be able to guarantee a couple tens of thousands of album sales since her outreach is pretty big. The only real people who know about The Art of Letting Go and actually care are her fans that actually buy albums.

  18. This song would have been a million times better if it was more like this Jazzy Piano approach. I like it either way but if she actually did a version like this (minus the million adlibs and goofing around) I would probably end up loving the song.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That might be you Mark but not "we" as is evident from the responses to my remark. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Actually ..... No buddy, one does not have to be able to sing "flawlessly" oneself to be able to judge a performance for it's "flawlessness".

And no amount of personal insult directed at me, or anyone else for that matter, is going to make it so.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't think that is quite true Mark. I think people do still buy really good albums. Even if they are not really fans.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I know, I like debates but I think its just a way to handle it. Every time I get up here people are just insulting everyone who disagrees its like too much to keep up. I would like to say I would probably ignore insults being thrown at me but I probably wouldn't be civil very long.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It was pretty good vocal-wise......she finally hit that f#5 note what I was waiting for lol

    ReplyDelete
  24. I will try even harder to state my opinion without any personal insults and simply ignore any response which doesn't do the same. :-)

Awwww, did I strike a nerve? I guess it's true, you must be lonely as a dog without anybody to love you.
I never said one needs to sing "flawlessly" to judge someone else's singing, I said one needs to be PROFICIENT, understand? should I direct you to an online dictionary? You pointed to a small segment of notes where Mariah's throat tended to close, but you were unable to point out the technicalities of WHY (according to you) it was a bad performance. In fact, I was the one who pointed out her throat started to close as she went up the scale.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Primo Uomo Assoluto25 November 2013 at 05:28

LMAO, who has insulted you? I pointed out that it's unlikely that you can sing better than Mariah (if you were a better singer than Mariah, people - at least a small underground community - would have heard of you), and I pointed out at how "pressed" you seem, as if you have nothing else going on in your life - no job, no husband, no children - outside the internet. And the fact you got so upset at that, seems to confirm my theory. I can just picture you...a lonely, middle-aged, unemployed lesbian seeking to fight with people half her age. Awww.

    ReplyDelete
  27. "upset"? I am not the one who got upset buddy. William expressed that kind of arguing is ruining his fun in coming here.
I just expressed my understanding of his emotions and promised from my end to refrain from that kind of arguing.

And, no...if you mistake insults for arguments and someone points that out, that does not constitute a confirmation your, meant to insult, words contain any actual truth.

But, enough already. I just responded now to clarify. From here on in, if you want to continue this ....you are on your own.

    ReplyDelete
  28. First off all you need to drop that little habit of yours to put in quotes things I never said. Because no where did I claim this was a "bad performance". I actually literally said ....
" And not saying this isn't a lovely video. Certainly her lyrical improvs were entertaining and her tone is gorgeous, as it always has been. :-)"

Second...I think you lost the chain of events here a bit. First people here started claiming the performance was "flawless",

then I stated it did not sound "flawless" to me. Then you came in defending the "flawless" claim.

Then I pointed at one particular moment for one which did not sound "flawless" to me. Then you in one breath claimed because , you think, I cannot sing a "full octave in tune" I am wrong as well as admitted I was right. (seeing as you expert guys keep saying such things as throats closing when they shouldn't are technical flaws)

You also tried to claim I should not say it wasn't
flawless" because seeing as I am, according to you, not experienced enough nor capable of using the correct technical terms, my opinion, unlike yours, is "worthless".

Alongside that, you tried to suggest I "have no life" and that "hanging on the internet" is not age appropriate for me (hilarious in itself seeing the age of the internet itself. It hasn't been around long enough for such a determination. Even for those who lack as much personality as to care for such social labels).

And now you added the suggestion nobody loves me and I am "lonely".

Buddy, if you have no argument, try simply sticking to your own opinion and not argue other people's opinions!

Instead of attempting personal insults and changing of subject.

Now for clarity sake I repeat....this above performance did not sound "flawless" to me.
It also seems to me she uses "improvisation" as a tool to hide inabilities. Nevertheless it was entertaining.
And I can see how it gives hope to her avid fans of those inabilities lessening.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have to agree with you that those notes didn't sound terribly flawless. The rest of her singing, however, I would say pretty much did. And thanks to her nodes, when she tried to go for a belted F#5, instead she got a whistle tone F#6, so I think in that case, it was alright.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That was all I was saying Ethan..that it wasn't "flawless". That was really my only point. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Just a little note: how much time do you think it took Opie (or you) to write this comments? I doubt it was more than 5 minutes, while a day has 1440. I think that spending less than 1% of the day in an internet forum doesn't equal to being "very sad and frustrated" and "not having anything else besides the internet". I go to college, do my homework, spend time with my friends, write my book and do sport, all in one day, and still have time to post quite a lot here. You're not the center of the world, man.

  32. Classy... Is it that hard to keep a discussion unpersonal and not insult everyone? Seriously, you all are ruining my joy for this blog.

  35. I don't think there's anything wrong with artists who want to please the general public - I have a lot more respect for these artists and musicians who write and produce music because they love singing and doing this, rather than those who seem to care more about hits and sales… No names ;)

  42. Killing myself pretty much lol I'm literally slaving away in the library & stuff 'cause we're given a truckload of unnecessary work. And there's virtually no time if I'm going to be honest. Now I see why everyone here has study groups. I simply refuse because working with people more times than not can prove to be a real deterrent. Sorry I haven't been on lately =/

If that's the case, your voice must be DEEP. I mean, you're probably one of the most manliest sounding people in existence haha. And weight/power/volume? That definitely sounds more Dramatic to me. I'm jealous. I'm a fan of those huge, heroic sounds. So, you've yet to venture into the 5th octave?

Oh my goodness, you HAVE to tell me how it went!!! I'm sure once the guys saw you their mouths probably fell all the way to bloody hell haha! I know mine would in envy and awe if I were to land my gaze on you lol

lol Yes, but technically bi if you count that one Cartoon character LOL! He's amazing :D

  43. DYING lol I pretty much went M.I.A. 'cause I've been in either 1 of 3 places, all of which I happened to be doing the same thing: work & BS'ing papers that I was far too lazy to do adequate research for lol The struggle is real, and it's ONLY the 1st semester...jeez =(

  45. Dude, Caribbean people are so gorgeous! I mean, faces, culture, their boddies too (Exhibit A: Leo, OMG!). Both male and females. And Caribbean people come in so many colours. Oh, how I envy the darker Caribbeans with EXTREMELY muscular toned bodies that glisten ever so brightly. Montrez, we got some serious competition on our hands lol

  46. OH.MY.GOD lol! I don't even wanna know what "it" is lmfao

    ReplyDelete
  47. LOL. Oh, I see...

Why? What course are you studying? What hopes do you have for he future?

Well, my speaking voice is quite deep - it is definitely one of the very things that I, initially, disliked about myself and my voice. However, that was years ago and I have proudly grown into it and, absolutely, love these attributes now. Nonetheless, I still am limited to only 'specific' genre's/styles of music: 'Pop/Soul/Jazz/Traditional-Pop/Adult-Contemporary' music as opposed to 'Contemporary Pop/R&B/Urban/Dance' music.

Well, the experience was fantastic actually. I am, currently, in 'Paris - France' and will be leaving on Thursday for my beloved home - 'London'.

L.M.A.O - Yes, well I have had my share of partners, albeit a very small few - I still haven't found the right man/woman - and I'm not a virgin so I think you know what "It" is. LOL.

Anyway, he is some pictures that I took whilst in Spain. These are just some of the magazine outtakes. What do you think?

  48. when did she go for a belted f#5? i don't see evidence (or why she would do that) of that going on here since.... she tries not to even go past E5 and her highest note is in the song is an eb5 in terms of belts.

  49. Where did you find this guy? He's awesome

    ReplyDelete
  50. I know 'DK'... His voice is, absolutely, astounding right?

He is a 'Gospel Singer'; a 'Lyric- Bass-Baritone'. I love how 'masculine' his, overall, timbre is. What a 'Rich, Strong & Heroic' tonal coloring he has.

He is one of my, prime, vocal inspirations. I am a 'Kavalier (Spinto) Baritone' with much more, apparent, 'Dramatic' qualities.

    Listen to this performance:

  54. Well, one of the most rigourous and annoying classes (fun too) is Inequality and Social Mobility in America and there are only 10 other people in the class. We're given a lot of DBQs and CCTs. As for the future? I don't even wish to wander that far. I do, however, see myself in either Journalism or possibly Psychology. I wish to become a Neurosurgeon but I'd be so broke lol I'm still undecided.

So, do you cover any songs on YouTube?

So are you still on official business in Paris or are you just enjoying the scenery?

Oh god, "it" just gave me a brain freeze LOL! It seems like no one goes the virgin route these days haha.

I love 'em. I think the 2nd and 3rd ones are my favourite. I really like the 1st too, your eyes look nice in the light. The grandpa, bill cosby sweater is a nice addition as well haha.

  55. Nah. Some people say you're "born" that way (personally I feel it's idiotic) and some say it's a preference and can develop, which I actually agree upon. But either way, I never preferred guys intimately, until Sasuke Uchiha of course lol But I mostly joke around with that. But nope, don't know why. I guess I just never felt strong lust for males, but I can acknowledge when a male is "good looking", like you haha. After seeing you I feel infinitely inferior lol

    ReplyDelete
  56. You're disgustingly flexible. How much more flexible can you possibly become? LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Good for you that you feel your heterosexuality is a developed preference. And thanks for calling those who were killed or committed suicide because they couldn't develop a similar preference even if their very lives depended upon it "idiotic".
