  1. Miley is a contralto? She's kinda in the mezzo-soprano range.

  2. Sorry, but she more than sings usually screams the notes. And the E6 is an exclamation, God! A note is only part of a vocal range if you can sustain it, and I didn't hear sustain that note. Anyone can scream and randomly a very high note can appear.

  3. Miley has a range of 5 octaves, not 3. check out another video on  youtube showcasing her range. She is just the BEST teenage singer ever.

  4. no.Just no.5 octaves are people with incredibly ranges like Mariah Carey.

  8. This profile is going to have an overhaul soon. Fans please point me to some new material worth hearing- particular songs please.  I've been tweeted that her tone has become less nasal  so I'd like to know which songs show this. Thanks!

  9. Miley is the BEST EVER. I LOVE HER SO MUCH.
I totally disagree with the vocal negatives though.
LOVE MILEY FOREVER AND EVER. <3

I LOVE HER WITH ALL MY HEART!!!!

  11. you're right, she's not contralto... this site has alot of them wrong... miley is more in the mezzo-soprano range

    ReplyDelete
  12. Miley, I think, is a contralto whose voice can sound almost robotically nasal, as shown in " who owns my heart" , but it can also be softer, like in the ballad "stay".

  13. That Bob Dylan song was nice, "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" (or something like that). She performed it on Ellen and it was I think a bit better than the studio version (and I'm not a Miley fan).

  14. No, not anyone can scream an E6 actually. You can only scream a note that is technically part of your range. The only problem is she can't sing the E6, or at least has not trained her voice in those areas.

    ReplyDelete
  15. You may disagree, but a remember a professional reviews her voice.

  16. Amazing song writer? I disagree, the most talented women out there is Lady Gaga despite her messed up head. Miley has her songs written, her music produced and made by others. Lady Gaga does this on her own. Rolling Stone classifed her as one of the most talented of our era.

  17. She has 5 octaves? A singer whose been in the industry and has been singing for years can have that capacity. Mariah Carey is the only known artist to have such a majestic vocal range.

    ReplyDelete
  18. how is that even possible?C3-E6 is mostly her actual vocal range.lets think a little: 5 octaves?ok,she already has 3,does that means she goes from the 2 to the 7 octave?first: her tone begins to get weak towards the F3,so,no,she probably cant go lower without vocal fry(which does NOT count as a note, since you would be pushing and not sustaining an actual "note").she goes higher?probably no,she forces towards the D6 and up.3 octaves is just fine for her :)

  19. Are you still look for material? If you are Id direct you to some material off Can't Be Tamed.

  20. Who Ownz My Heart, Every Rose Has Its Thorn, Forgiveness and Love, Two More Lonely People, Scars, Take Me Along, Robot, My Heart Beats For Love I think showcase her vocals the best. But you might find something in the rest of the songs on the album that I dont.

  21. Miley fans have no idea what they are talking bout!! How can she have a five octave range??!! That's utter stupidity!! Only sfogato sopranos have such ranges like Mariah Carey ...oh and miley actually has a voice type?? Haha

  25. The way she sustained the Eb5 on Fly On A Wall is absolutely spectacular!
Please listen to it and some of her head voice notes on here. (:

  26. she has a range at least of 4 octaves and she hits the 7th octave, her and demi lovato are the best disney singers
    look at that : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ID2gdwVkdA

  27. I'm sorry but I don't see her as a good singer AT ALL

    ReplyDelete
  28. Who does, really? I mean, I like her (mainly due to my attachment to Hannah Montana like... four years ago.) but it's fairly obvious that mediocre, if not just plain bad.

    ReplyDelete
  29. she was really sick that week. she even said during her pre performance but she didnt want to have to not sing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Can you do a new profile for Miley? Or at least do better analysis. I've been a Miley fan for years and I think she is severely underrated. She performs and delivers her vocals with so much charisma that it really draws me into her music. Her belts have gotten better and I think with the great coaching, she will continue to blossom.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This profile is so old! Can you please update it? Miley's singing style has evolved so much in these years. Diva Devotee, please listen to her new songs and performances.

    ReplyDelete
  34. She is a dramatic mezzo-soprano like other singers such as Amy Whinehouse, Shakira, Adele... (I'm just talking about the type of voice). A lot of people think they are alto but they are mezzo with good low notes

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nasal tone? I'd say croaky and awful.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey DD, what happened to that rehaul? Doing some stanning for Miley here, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Miley does have songwriting credits.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hold up how come Miley's a contralto when Selena's a mezzo sounds fishy to me

    ReplyDelete
  39. No she is a very low lyric mezzo. She has a not so grand volume capacity, lacks a cavernous tone in her lower register, and lacks a metallic color. Her tone is very nasal which is more characteristic of a lyric mezzo.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Both are mezzos but miley I'd a weightier mezzo with a lower tessitura.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hi! So I had already given a look at miley's profile on this blog, and (I don't know if you removed that description), but it said she did not have a whistle register. I was looking for a video of her highest live notes, and I came across a video, and... I realized she actually sort of does have a whistle register. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Whfx9lRX9J4

    I was very surprised!!
Tell me what you think :) Is it considered a whistle register?
    xoxo Sabrina

    ReplyDelete
  42. Don't you have to like..be able to sing in that register for it to be considered ''whistle range'' ?

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's a very high and shrieky falsetto, as are most screams.
    Whistle register is something different.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You are correct in the first bit Opie. One needs to be able to sustain, or phrase within that range for it to be considered part of the "whistle range" or be able to perform staccati.

    ReplyDelete
  45. But not in the second eh! :-b

    ReplyDelete
  46. I haven't paid attention to Cyrus much enough to comment on her nasality :p Although I haven't heard it in recent performances, so I don't see it as a problem either.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I haven't heard all that much of her eithet. Just these two. I found it not on a bothering level. :-)

  48. Er- Robin, color is a stylistic choice. Using different modes produce different amounts of metal.

Assuming you're talking CVI of course.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I wouldnt say color is entirely a stylistic choice. There are certain voices that cant produce certain colors.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I mean a combination of those three traits would make her a dramatic mezzo. The colour can be cut slack though. Generally a Dramatic has a piercing and biting chest register that is bright and weighty. In her late state, Whitney Houston, Anastasia, and Nina Hagen are the only ones I can think of. Whitney and Nina didn't really have metallic coll ours but they both have thick, weighty voices and a tremendous volume capacity. Can you think of any more dramatic mezzos? I can't. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  51. I really don't think she is a Contralto... She has reached notes up to a mezzo-soprano's range. Nasal voice or not, she could belt them high to what could be considered a mezzo's vocal range.

And researchers say that females does not have falsetto... So the whistle note that she sang probably is a whistle tone and not just a husky falsetto. Though I could be proven wrong since this musical controversy has been debated for so many years.

Plus. She has good control of her voice and could sing amazingly LIVE! Unlike some others who can sing only in studio versions. High notes? She could easily belt up to it in concerts. She sometimes show strain on her face reaching those notes though, but it could still be considered a range wider than a contralto's.

    PLEASE UPDATE. :)

  52. Dear Person in charge of this blog, I feel like you (and the rest of the world) are quite tough on Miley. Her voice is much, much stronger than people like to think. It's full and the nasal-ness will leave when her technique improves. She's already developed a nice full voice. Maybe when her new album comes out, you can change her vocal profile, but I think it's unfair to write so little and give so little explanation.

    ReplyDelete
  53. So, When Solange Knowles sing a falsetto note to E6 she's a soprano, but Miley Cyrus isn't? THIS IS UNFAIR.

    ReplyDelete
  54. You clearly have insufficient knowledge in classifying voices. To classify a voice, it takes not only range, but also texture, tessitura, heaviness etc of a voice. Cher can hit F6 but that doesn't make her a Soprano. This isn't unfair. It's reality. ;D

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thank you, this saved me the trouble of saying the same thing :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I was talking about how vocal ranges are greatly linked to vocal types. I'm just clearing that her vocal type isn't just Contralto. Many people says so. And, really? Should you really say I have insufficient knowledge about this? I've been studying music and vocal capabilities ever since! It wasn't necessary to accommodate something like that, fact or not. You really don't have manners...

    ReplyDelete
  57. 2 years later...
    ahhaha

    ReplyDelete
  58. There's a little mistake in her range. It says that it's C#3-E6 and then that it is 3 octaves and one semitone. Shouldn't it be 3 octaves one tone and a semitone?

    ReplyDelete
  59. is she really a contralto?

    ReplyDelete
  60. No she's a medium placed, medium sized lyric mezzo.

    ReplyDelete
  61. You are right about her not being a contralto but she still isn't a soprano. Mind you, that E6 she hit was like when she was 14 and her voice was developing. It was more of an exclamation. We need to wait till this album drops then gauge her vocal range then. So far she has showed E3(possible B2 octave unison)-F#5(G5 live).

    ReplyDelete
  62. Please further your knowledge a bit. Range isn't what makes a mezzo a mezzo....comfort, brightness, color and tessitura is. I also don't what you to confuse a mezzo-soprano with a soprano because mezzos are not sopranos. Thanks :-)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Why would it be unfair? Vocal fachs are all equal. There's no superior fach. Soprano is absolutely not better than mezzo or contralto. They're just different.

    ReplyDelete
  64. PLEASE UPDATE! I'm going to make a strong case for Miley being one of the biggest pop acts this year. She has one of my favorite voices ever for the reason that a combination of her unique tone, charisma, and ability to make her voice interesting makes her a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. I noticed this from day one on Hannah Montana. Her voice alone stood out to me and her new album is going to be produced by Pharrell. Also, notice how she doesn't try to imitate anyone vocally since she already has a unique tone. Just you wait for that album to drop.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Agreed. Definitely a lyric mezzo. Voice has darkened due to substance and alcohol use, I suspect. Age could be a minor contributing factor, but mezzo nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I know that mezzos aren't sopranos. I just said that she is NOT a contralto. Like 'anonymous' said, her voice resembles P!nk's sometimes which is a mezzo-soprano. Her timbre might sound lower than others, but isn't Beyonce's as well, but what makes her a mezzo is her belting capabilities and her upper register's tessitura. I'm just saying, this vocal profile isn't made with the right sources and is really out of date. :))

    ReplyDelete
  67. Well that's good to see you can differentiate. And Sadly, I have to agree. :( .

    ReplyDelete
  68. That is so funny because I don't care for her voice at all. It is such a personal preferance.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Okay! So, she hits what sounds like harmonized B2s in "We Can't Stop". They're pretty faint but I personally have no doubt she could hit that note seeing as she spoke in the 2nd octave (around G2) while portraying Scarlett Johansson on SNL. Also, she belts a G5 here: http://youtu.be/3iIjUhH_x9A Some people say she goes up to G♯5, but I can't confirm because all I hear is G5. As for falsetto, she doesn't really use it much. Although she hit this impressive (in my opinion) whistle on Ellen http://youtu.be/EFHXopZdAfg?t=2m52s It tops at either G6 or G♯6. I pitched it a long time ago, so I can't remember. I don't think it counts toward her range because it's not in a musical-context. BUT it's sustained! So I think that means if she worked really hard she could have a 4 octave range. So her SINGING range is at least B2-G5 (2 octaves and 5 notes)! Please update :D

    ReplyDelete
  70. What song was this? :o The video isn't available but now I really wanna see it.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Well, it's not really as significant since Miley has demonstrated some limited melismatic capabilities in live performances this era (as well as some very nice runs in her albums), but it originally linked to 'Morning Sun', where she did a very sloppy and badly structured run.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Well almost any girl can scream a G6 so no it wouldn't really count unless she sung it, but I am surprised she sustained it.
