Kate Bush- Vocal Profile/ Range

Vocal Type: Dramatic Soprano
Vocal Range: 4 octaves G2#-G6#
Vocal Pluses: Incredibly versatile, rich and emotive voice that has a dark, weighty timbre. The midrange is solid with a  warmth and sweetness. The belting range is clear and robust with a fiery passion and connects seamlessly to the head voice. This part of the range is bright, resonate and has the flexibility to sound operatic, contemporary or even able to mimic birdsong. Expert control over the voice means that notes can be sustained effortlessly- with or without vibrato- and pitched perfectly.
Vocal Negatives: Unique and individual singing style is not to everyone's taste.

  8. Enormous range, good control, and she sounds comfortable in all parts of it. The voice can be light and fragile or shrieky and overbearing like a harpy depending on what's called for artistically and she can switch between these in the same tune. She can do folk ("Army Dreamers"), more operatic sounds (the decorations in "Hammer Horror") or classic alternative ("Wow"). Her ballads ("Wuthering Heights" and "This Woman's Work") never fail to impress me. I agree her sound is unique and may not win fans all over, but she has a devoted following and I find her to be an innovative female artist.

  9. Another spot on profile. Kate Bush is a true artist. Imo even her first album from 1978 still holds up brilliantly 34 years later! As do her videos.

  10. since the video of her vocal range has been deleted, does anybody have at least information about songs, preferably exact moment, containing her lowest and highest note? or could you do sample with some of her notes, like you did with Cher etc, Diva? I guess Kate fans, including me, would be thrilled. Can anyone help?

What does being a Björk fan have anything to do with liking Kate Bush? As a matter of fact, I read that Kate Bush was an influence for Björk. Both of them are great; why are you trying to make Björk seem like she is bad? She is well-respected amongst many groups, just as Kate Bush is. I love both of them, but neither have the same type of music, so you couldn't compare them really. Björk's music is very electronic and explosive, Kate's music is very natural and (usually) pop-sounding. I can't stand people like you that can't leave comparisons out of everything. No one even mentioned Björk!

  17. UK houses some of the best singers the world has ever seen.

I am obsessed with this woman. Like her or not, one can definitely not forget her. Truly distinctive voice that is still unmatched and incredibly versatile. People wear off trying to sing her songs.

  18. One of Britain's greatest songbirds of all time! And certainly the greatest songwriter from Britain! Her quirk and charm in her music and lyrics are matched with her astonishing range and delivery. A true musical genius, I hope she releases something new soon!

  19. "Babooshka" is the first song of hers that I heard, and when I saw the video for the first time, I was like "this woman's got it all: a brain, a voice, and a damn hot body!" I agree on the videos, very unique. I love her use of contrabass as a musical and visual male counterpart. Incredibly innovative and talented musician!

  20. You can go ahead and STFU, you unintelligent know-nothing! You obviously don't understand what true musical talent is, so just don't... I can't even say on here, but you get the idea!

  21. I know what your saying, her voice is really high, so you don't associate that with "dark", but when she goes into her lower range, it's got an eerie feeling and mysterious, not smoky but haunting sound to it, in a good way. You have to listen closely to really hear it.

  22. Why would you even say something like that? Both artists are phenomenal, and completely different stylistically, well, not completely, but not close enough for a comparison like that. Yes, Kate has a bigger range than Björk but if you are on this sight than you should know damn well that range is not what measures how talented a vocalist is, that goes for everybody.

  23. And really, you wanna go there? SHE has one of the worst voices you've ever heard! Let's see who belongs in that category: Ke$ha, Rebecca Black, Justine Bieber... need I continue?

  24. You know, it really saddens me that so few people around me know her. I feel like I am probably one of about twenty kids at my school who have heard of Kate Bush, being generous with my estimate. Not even my friend from band has heard of her! My mother who grew up in the 80's didn't know about her! I feel a deep profound sadness.

  26. Love her but, she's always a little bit off in everything. I love how she phrases things and such, singing them and the emotion and placement of which she uses them. However often it's like she throws them out there without being completely 100% certain in her choice so they always sound iffy and unpolished even for being live.

  27. Every singer has haters, people think that range equals a better singer and it simply isn't true. :[ Bjork has better control and is in my opinion more emotional. That said I love Kate as well. They're both artists though and need to be respected, if he wants to say that people who dislike Kate don't understand her art or style than he's a hypocrite for doing the same to Bjork.

  28. Ke$ha can actually sing extremely well. o.o; Listen to Goodbye or her cover of Karma Police from when she was in HIGHSCHOOL. The girl has great control and a wide octave range. Also I may hate Justin Bieber, but he was youtube famous for a reason. I don't like his music but, he can hold a note - he can carry a tune and has a decent vocal quality. I can't take that from him, but he is an ass. As for Rebecca Black, no one cares.

  29. That must be one of the likely most incorrect statements ever made about Kate Bush's work.

Instead here's Kate with what , unlike 9 out of 10 songs supposedly female empowering songs today, I consider a female empowering song.
