P!nk "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" [Review]

I love P!nk, but I don't love her new single, Blow Me (One Last Kiss). I had heard the demo version of the Greg Kurstin produced song a couple of days ago, and thankfully they've improved on that somewhat- production wise- because that was awful.

However, what this fine-tuned version has made me realise, is that it may have been the lyrical content that was the problem, more so than anything else.

There's no question that P!nk is a headstrong female, that isn't afraid to speak her mind- and we ALL love that about her- but seriously isn't she getting too old for lyrics like, "Just when I think it can't get worse, I had a sh-t day (no!)You had a sh-t day (no!), we've had a sh-t day (no!)," or the double entendre title? I've got nothing against the attitude, or the fire, I only wish she'd direct it at something of importance.

P!nk is a smart woman and I hoped with this new musical era she was going to have realised it was time to make that move into more adult territory. After all she is in her thirties, and now a mother. But this single doesn't appear to show any development at all, other than in her vocals. As such, Blow Me (One Last Kiss) will no doubt please the P!nk fans who want more of the same. I, however, expected signs of progress from an artist as talented and capable as she is. Perhaps the upcoming album is where this will be found.

Rating: D

"Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" will be released on the 9th of July

  1. Lol thats scary, I literally put that in chatango and you drop this article, great minds think alike huh DD!

I just glad you pretty much confirmed how I felt about the song! It just feels like a re-run of previous hits and not only that at times the sound and feel of the song is not only intimidating but also slightly overdone...

Maybe its a grower, but in the meantime I will stick to Kelly for my pop-rock loving ;) Great job DD!

  2. I kinda felt the same way about her last single, but that grew on me to the extent that it was simply "okay". I didn't end up loving it, or listening to it by choice. Besides that was for a greatest hits album, so I considered it more akin to a filler track than a real one. This single, however, doesn't inspire confidence :( And you're right about Kelly. Her album is SOLID!

Oh and I'm glad to see our psychic link is still functioning, despite not having a chatbox session in ages!

  3. Indeed indeed! This is not something I would even use my free downloads on to be honest, which is a shame as I do really like Pink, but she is very inconsistent with the quality of her releases.

Her voice is splendid! But its drowned and wasted here.

Hehe pyschic link, it clearly is just that! ;D

  4. Nothing special of a song, but the lower harmonies are well done.
That's the only saving grace of this song, and the oddly well controlled upper belts.

  5. *well done and incredibly solid

  6. To each his own I guess. Haha I mean I don't think P!nk will ever get rid of that spunky rebel attitude in her music, and in my opinion it's not a bad thing. You have to remember that her being a pop singer (and one who leans towards the more alternative side of pop where change is sometimes seen as bad) her demographic doesn't truly change as long as she remains in the spot light, therefor it's not really bad to not evolve much in their work. As a matter of fact too much evolution and change can be a bad thing (lets try to forget how badly Bionic was received...poor Christina). I really enjoy that she is experimenting more with her upper register belts and I find that it is quite odd that she chose to get rid of her rasp for this as its her trademark sound. I overall enjoy the song. It's not her best work, but I find it to have a good instrumental and the vocals are definitely above P!nk standards. The lyrics...heh It's definitely a P!nk song, and that's how I prefer her work to stay...unless you throw some Perry gold in there.

  7. I love what I know of Pink but in truth, I don't know a lot of her work. Maybe that is why I really enjoyed this song? But I wouldn't be surprised if someone stepped up and claimed it was also ( like the Jessie J tune) a stolen song. Surely I have heard this tune before?

As far as evolving, from the little I know, this seems "lighter" than her earlier stuff?
I can see where you are coming from DD when it comes to general evolving of any artist but... "more important"? What is considered "important" seems to be rather subjective don't you think. I mean, just look at our recent discussion of football v. music. LOL

  8. I feel like I'm jumping on the bandwagon here but omg... Damn, Pink, where did those top belts come from?

The song is average, I agree, not because I hate that content/style of it, just because the production is a mess. Her voice is drowned out, the instrumental is too loud, the panning of the vocals in terms of audio is all out.

But I love her. That voice is just beautiful.

wow, almost unrecognizable without her raspy tone. I think the mixing is too much, without her raspy tone she drowned in the beats..

  10. I love the spunky and rebel attitude, but I wish it had been less...childish. But yeah, I'm really interested to see if the rasp remains vacant on the rest of the album!

  11. the vocals are really solid, aren't they. Hopefully it will make people take notice of her voice a bit more.

  12. yep, i think she is mixing (better?). Also, she have been pregnant when recording this, so perhaps no smoking (not sure if she does normally) and drinking has done something to the texture.

  13. Indeed, but I'm curious how she'll fare doing those G5's and E5's live. Hope she isn't doing like Carey, making something and not thinking how it will carry over in a live setting.

  14. LOL It was but an example of something you consider unimportant. By no means would I personally suggest football is more important than music. Not in my world view anyway. Or that she should sing about it. Especially not since that would then probably be American football...an incredibly boring sport. ;)

The links are the songs I do know of her btw..and like.
I don't agree with this being a childish lyric. I think exactly considering her previous depth, it is likely she is actually growing over reacting to break ups with lovers as if it is the worst thing which could happen.

Considering imo at least equally immature lyrics you guys do like from other singers, I think this might be more a case of high expectations not being met than the song being all that bad?

  15. Well P!nk is one of those artists that are known to deliver exceptionally well vocals live. Especially after her performance of Glitter in the air (where she was being suspended high up in the air and being spun incredibly fast after being plunged into water and STILL being able to vocalise perfectly) and what a lot of people dont know is P!nk isn't an amateur vocalist. She is a trained singer unlike most of her competition from the 90's

  16. I'm a fan of P!nk so I'm fully aware of what she has sung live and her capabilities, which is why I made the comment of will she be able to pull this off live? P!nk has never done anything similar to this song vocally, P!nk isn't a high belter, her comfort falls into the lower register and her mid-range so I'm curious to see how she'd do with this seeing as most of the chorus is sung from E5-G5.
I don't expect her to sing it in the original key, she'll probably drop it a half step or a full step, so she may be able to. P!nk doesn't really sing lines of her songs in the 5th octave, let alone the choruses, which is why i'm a bit nervous about hearing this song live.

  17. i did consider that, and yes expectations did play a part in my initial feelings towards it. But even if i negate those, i still wouldn't choose to listen to this, or buy this when its released. It's just not that good, imo.

  18. I agree the lyrics are kinda ehhh
but pink is still very talented and ive always liked her

  19. i enjoyed songs from fun house so much but this is ...meh.....maybe its a buzz single ? to see how fans react?....as for the title...I LOVE IT but the lyrical content is below par compared to her last set of songs. i still enjoy her voice and her attitude but i want more songs like f**king perfect and the animal rights or anti bullying meaning she had in her songs x

  20. Wellll ......when you start asking the question "would you pay to hear this song?"...that's a whole different standard. ;)

I totally agree it's not all that good and particularly when compared to some other songs Pink has done, I just feel the general antipathy towards this song seems to be fueled by more than that. All I can say is, I had no expectations before hearing this other than that the vocals would be quite good( and I think those definitely ARE) and I liked the song enough to listen to it several times. Lomg as it's free that is. ;)

  21. I honestly think P!nk is as the point in her life where she just wants to have fun. She's been expressing herself in various ways for the past ten years and now she just wants to chill and have some fun, and Lord knows she deserves it. With that said, however, I really don't like the song and I could barely make it through the demo because it literally hurt my ears.

But whatever, to each their own.

  22. Hmmm yep its a grower, had it stuck in my melon for the past two days...

  23. Hmmm...the chorus of this reminds me a lot of "Animal I Have Become" by Three Days Grace.

  24. I feel like she progessed a lot when she realesed the Funhouse album and then Fuckin'Perfect and this song is like going back to her second album. I like the song but I think she can do much better.
