  2. Yes, one thought first off all...where are the other vocals categories?

  3. Call Me Maybe in best song category ?? Is this a joke ? And where the hell is Lana ????

  4. They cut a crap load of categories last year:http://myemail.constantcontact.com/NiLP-Guest-Commentary--Latinos-and-The-Grammys.html?soid=1101040629095&aid=wiuePoHnEIU

  5. I doubt they are going to nominate her anytime soon -- it it has nothing to do with her talent. With the Grammys, there is a thing of a certain traditionalism. And when someone is far outside of it, it either takes them a long time to win nominations or they never capture any through the bulk of their career.

  6. Have they announced any performances yet?

  7. Ugh yeah Call Me Maybe...seriously?? Not that impressed with the nominations but I'm elated to see Frank Ocean's Channel Orange in the Album of the Year category. And Mercy as best rap song haha.

  8. They did. But there are still a load of vocal nominees you left out. Like Americana, folk, Latin, gospel and most importantly...Country collaboration. Featuring Alison Krauss' possibly 28th Grammy ;-)

I'd post the link to the official Grammy site but I am on a tablet since today and haven't a clue yet how to add a link.

  9. //still pissed at this awards show. Daydream....

    ReplyDelete
  10. Realistically Daydream would have only won 2 Grammys at the max, Mariah had no chance going up against Joni Mitchell and Alanis Morrissette. She lost fair and square in some categories, however I do believe she should have won 2 grammys that night.

However what does it really matter?
Grammys neither subtracts or adds to the quality of the songs produced on music :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well, maybe you're right. But she still should have won something. It's ridiculous she walked away with none.

And Adele won 6. And IMO, Daydream>>>>>21 in every aspect.

I know, but whenever I try to argue that Mariah is a better singer than Beyonce, her stans go, "well, let's count the grammies..."

  12. ok , will check it out and add! Thanks

  13. i think that this year is such a flop for the music industry. i didn't really hear any hit song except maybe for somebody that i used to know but other than that everything is really flat. i wish that next year would be better for the music industry, i'm hoping for more REAL singer!!
and what's with Call me maybe in song of the year?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Call Me Maybe is the most annoying song i have ever heard! wait ! second after Gangnam Style ! What is wrong with music this year ? I used to listen to radio once back in time, but now every time i turn radio up i want to vomit ! seriously, all those dance songs sound all the same, Rihanna should be banned with some other wannabe artists ! You are so right that everything is flat.... I can not get why people like Gangnam Style, it is flop all the way ! I only liked Muse new music this year and Lana's of course.

  15. But see, 21 really had no competition during the Grammys.
You have to kind of view the social impact of the albums.
Daydream was seen as a Mariah reaching her peak, continuing on the wave of success she gained back in 1990. Where as 21 is seen almost as a personal savior to music, people see 21 somewhat as the Jagged Little Pill and Tapestry of it's time (which I don't enjoy those comparisons as both those albums are far more rounded and diverse but oh well). You have to look at so many factors, I agree 100% Mariah should have collected at least 1 Grammy for Daydream. One huge aspect about music is timing. Artists' success in many aspects depends on this.

And of course Beyonce has a large collection of Grammys. It's fairly easy to rack them up when your father is a judge on the committee *cough cough*. Beyonce is talented though.

  16. I'm done with the Grammys, and have been for a long time. I really don't see the point in these awards shows. Who is honestly responsible for the voting anyway, because they definitely aren't judging artists by merit and musical integrity if this list is anything to go by (save for a few people: Bjork, Fiona Apple, ect). Although I'm sure neither one of them would even bother show up to this sham. Also, Lana definitely should have been nominated for best new artist, and Melanie Fiona's the MF life should have been nominated for best urban contemporary album, but I digress. I just hope to see of my favs shut the place down.

  17. "Grammys neither subtracts or adds to the quality of the songs produced on music" THIS!

  18. Agreed. Hopefully she finally gets the recognition she deserves.

  19. I'm kind of hoping Fiona Apple shows up and delivers one of these speeches again ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSLwYrPbuts

  20. Actually the official Grammy site explains who are doing the voting. Namely people who in some capacity worked on albums. I guess that means ,besides a lot of actual musicians,a whole lot of sell out ''studio voices'' and the rest of the lot involved in producing a lot of crappy excuses for ''music'' who care mostly for fame. Oh, and it seems for ''god'' ( and in that order as well)...judging by many of the acceptance speeches. ;-)
No doubt the fact that real musicians also get a vote explains why at least at this war shows it's not about the Biebers etc.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Damn auto spellcheck! ''Award shows'' I of course meant.

    ReplyDelete
  22. In the last sentence, are you referring to the massive upset of Justin Bieber losing best new artist to Esperanza Spalding a few years back?

That was probably my favorite Grammy moment, just for the reactions of his many fans after the fact.

    ReplyDelete
  23. LOL there WAS that joyous moment but no, that was not the moment on my mind. I was thinking of him receiving a ''performer of the year'' award at the same show P!nk gave that awesome performance of Try recently.
( still wondering on that BTW. Did he get that before or after her performance? And who WAS the presenter able to keep a straight face handing him that obviously worthless trinket???)

  24. There was an album this year which should have been present in that list, if only for the sheer quality of the music in it: Trespassing, by Adam Lambert. Great album. Way better than many in the Pop category.

Also, the list of Pop Solo Performance is upsetting. No male vocalist in there! That's what's going to happen every year now that the Grammys have erased the Male and Female categories.

  25. Fortunately all the divas are coming back this year! MAriah, Britney, Cher, Beyoncé, etc. This is promising.
