[Watch] Jamelia Performs "Stop" On Ukraine X-Factor

How did Jamelia end up singing on the Ukrainian version of X-Factor?? The mind boggles... but I am glad to see her getting back to the day job after many moons away from music.

The release of a new demo in 2011 had my hopes rising that the Brummie was readying new material for a relaunch in 2012. But no new music appeared! Instead she turned up acting on the unintentionally hilarious, police mockumentary Crime Stories at the end of last year. Surprisingly, though surrounded by rubbish ex-soap stars professional actors, she managed to put on one of the strongest performances of the series.

However, I don't think we have to worry about Jamelia ditching music for Hollywood just yet, since Wikipedia has an album, Rebel, scheduled for release this year. So perhaps taking to the stage on the Ukraine version of X-Factor was the singers way of getting a little practice before a full on musical onslaught later this year....or it was just about the money!

The performance itself wasn't bad, but the top notes were a struggle for the singer with her voice wobbling uncontrollably as she attacked them. I think with some warm-ups, and better technique, she could definitely have hit and sustained them. But since the Sam Brown song- which I have loved since FOREVER- is a tough tune for anyone to sing, I'll cut Jamelia some slack...but only if she promises to deliver a new album this year!

  1. Very random of her to appear on Ukrainian X-Factor but I must admit its good to her her voice again. The innocent, impish and sweet tones have been much missed! One of my favourite songs was Thank you.

Even her foray into RnB flavoured pop/rock was an interesting blend and suited her voice, surprisingly too...

  2. "Thank You" was the first song I went to to reminisce about Jamelia's back cat after watching the X-factor performance!

  3. She's on the Irish version of The Voice this year so probably getting some practice in when she has to perform with her acts live. I love this song and her version of it. Back when she was singing it near its release she had a much better handle on it. There's no where to hide from the half way point in the song, but has always freestyled it a little live:
