[Watch] Ciara And Nicki Minaj Perform @ BET 2013 Awards

ciara BET Music Awards 2013

Crunk&B Queen Ciara is consistently slept on, even though she has got to be one of- if not THE- best female performer out there right now. Part of the problem, other than people perceiving her voice as being "weak" (which I don't agree with), has to be the inconsistent material she keeps coming with.

This era seems to be the most unfocused to date, with the dancing Diva grasping at previous sounds to try and regain relevance. It's a strategy that clearly isn't working! CiCi needs to stop looking backwards for inspiration and instead be pushing forwards, setting new trends with her music and choreography, because she is more than capable of leading.

I know that reads like a rant and that it's unfair to tack it on to the great performances of I'm Out and Body Party, but I don't post enough on Ciara- entirely my fault- to have been able to note my thoughts elsewhere. Still, she brought the Goodies to the stage last night and even if she was lipping (the vocal sounded way too consistent), I can't hate because that choreography was on point!

Thoughts?

I HATE CENSORSHIP. GAH. They might as well not have played Nicki Minaj's part. Ciara looks and acts like a hipster clown.

First half of the clip was incredibly boring. Second part was better, but she sounds like she's singing just for the sake of it. Don't hear anything special 'bout it.

  2. That's what I mean about her material- It's lacklustre. What did you think of the choreography?

I thought the choreography was pretty pointless. It was on point no doubt, but those moves just basically looks like she's having extreme parkinsons.

  5. Ciara, baby you should have came out in the 90s. I really like your music unlike most here but it is just far too late to become relevant. The only way your music would really just spark is if it had a really retro vibe, not like the 90s as well as connecting on a deeper interlectual basis. I get so tired of being impulsed to get up and start twerking on the ceiling every time your song plays on Spotify. More to life than dance songs....no one likes a one trick pony.

Same thing happening to you is happening to my favorite singer, Jazmine Sullivan. Your music is outdated and not really fresh sounding. Too much talent is going by the wayside these days... ;,(

  6. Not here for Nicki Minaj doing and sounding the same as always but Ciara is a good entertainer. I don't listen to much of her stuff to be able to comment on her vocals though, but it seems she puts vocals at the bottom of her list of priorities in her career?

  7. I have never really been into Ciara but back in the day I did love this remix of hers.

I actually surprised myself though, I thought I would utterly detest this, again an irrational feeling from me lol starting to think I am getting stuck in a musical rut, been listening to the same stuff for a while now. Perhaps I have been subliminally protecting my current interests from others' potentially elbowing in lol who knows? Great job, loving your work as always :)

  8. I honestly just think Ciara isn't for someone like you. And that's fine, because she definitely performed her butt off. Anybody that's followed Ciara and has been a fan of hers since the beginning knows of her changes. She was in the industry at a very young age, she said herself she had to mature up quite young, and I recall her being a only child, and being a military brat, so that helped push that. She was already mature at "Goodies" and "The Evolution", the only point for her to go in her mind is out of that barrier, and give people what they haven't seen from her, more sides, being open, not being so "nice", "cookie cutter", and "perfect." This era she's not apologizing for who she is, and that is by twerking, being a little more wild, and sexual. It's a different kind of growth and expression, and I personally like it. It's kind of confusing to me how you can have Ke$ha as a guilty pleasure, but criticize Ciara in any way. Her song is already in top 40 on Billboard, #1 on Urban charts, and she's doing rather well for herself. Sometimes it's not always about setting "new trends", sometimes it's about just being yourself, and not trying so hard to be "different." And I'm confused about gaining relevancy, and it not working for her O-O ???? Believe me, it's working for her, a lot of people are interested in her now. It just happens that you aren't one of those people, which is fine. I'm just confused on how you said it clearly isn't working. It seems like with her, she can never please anybody. That's why I always have said, Ciara should please herself, and be her. And I'm happy with that. Tis all.

  9. I really enjoyed Ciara's first two albums. After that... not so much. The thing is, her take on Crunk and Hip-Hop was interesting and fresh then maybe she got caught up in trying to be too pop or mainstream and just lost what made her special? I don't care for this new single too. She should go back to the dirty south roots and add some twists.

  10. i have always thought that out of beyonce, riri, and ciara - ciara was always the best dancer and the most attractive, the only thing beyonce has on her is the voice and rihanna just has better singles

i have no clue if she lipped because i agree the vocal was way too good - i feel like some parts were live like when she would try to get the crowd to say something, but then the actual song vocals were lipped
nonetheless ciara is a killer performer

I said the dance moves made her look like she had extreme parkinsons. Read my comment properly, thank you very much. The problem was the choreography not her.

  13. But, you are forgetting Janelle :(.

  14. While Ciara is, to me, the Janet Jackson of this generation, she isn't a better stage performer than Beyoncé or Dawn Richard. They have it all - vocals, looks, stage presence and they dance in heels. I love Ciara. She's top 5. This performance was BANANAS. Janelle Monae is also a great performer. She's up there. Ciara just needs to find her Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (Janet) or her Timbaland (Aaliyah) or her Rich Harrison (Amerie).

  15. I don't think she lipped...She has given plenty of perfomances lately when she sounds good...the fact that she changed some melasmatic sequences is enough for me to feel as if she didn't lip it.
