[Review] Lady Gaga "Applause"

IT'S HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE!! With her hand forced by the threat of the full song being leaked, Lady Gaga has released her comeback single Applause a full week early! Lucky us! Now if I were you, I'd listen to the iHeartRadio exclusive below before you read on. I'd hate to colour your judgement.

Okay you guys are going to hate me for even mentioning her name in this post, but is anyone else hearing Madonna's Girl Gone Wild in this? Believe me when I say I didn't go into this with even a thought of the Material Girl, but that song- which I haven't revisited since the video premièred in March of last year- pinged into my head the second Applause got to its chorus. It's not anything major, more a vague similarity, but I'd be interested to read if any of you heard it too.

Ignoring that, I like it. Gaga was never going to go back to straight pop (like many hoped)- that would have been too obvious a retreat after Born This Way-so the dance floor was the next logical step for the singer. And it's a move that totally works for her.

However, the single marks the first time Gaga could be seen to be chasing a sound rather than leading from the front or trying to innovate. Something to worry about perhaps for those who look to her for originality. Not me though, I'm glad she's not trying so hard this time around. From the cocky lyrics, to the stylised vocal, this is the "fun" Gaga we needed  after the preachy weighty Born This Way. Still, the DJ White Shadow production isn't anything special, but at least it allows for the focus to be firmly on Gaga and her great vocal.

Now I await the video, which let's be honest is almost as important as the song itself where Gaga is concerned. When I see that, the ARTPOP era will truly have started

Rating: B-

Thoughts?

  1. Didn't hear Girl Gone Wild in it.

  2. I think they have a similar chord progression, so I definitely hear GGW (after you pointed it out), but the subject matters are different (thankfully).

    ReplyDelete
  3. me neither.

The problem is not that it sounds like a Madonna song, it sounds like EVERY other song on the radio! Anything with a high bpm or dance track sounds like this. If she wanted to hit us with a bang, sorry it missed me.

  4. I wasn't 100% feeling the song when I first heard it. But it's grown on me since, I'd say B- is also about where I stand. I didn't hear Madge in it though. But if Gaga really wants to boost my opinion of the song, she better have a killer performance at the VMAs this year. She said that the single and the video would come out on the same day, but since the song came out early, I'm not sure when she's gonna put out the video.

  5. i like it but i dont love it. its not as catchy as born this way and nothing like bad romance. but its ok , it will appeal to the general public and thats whats she needs to get a comeback. i was hoping for alot more tho :/......

  7. Hey DD! Yes, I hear 'Girls Gone Wild' too - particularly the lyric 'Live for the way that cheer and scream for me', which sounds v similar to the 'Hey-ey-ey' bit in that Madonna song. I like the lyrics and ideas in this new Gaga, but the production is a bit generic for me - I preferred the harder edge of the production on the Born This Way album. Ho hum - she can't stand still I guess! Will look forward to hearing the rest of the album. It's certainly more interesting that Ms Perry's 'Roar'.

  8. To tell the truth, I thought her first album "Fame" had some really great pop. I was sort of hoping for that. I don't t dislike this its just not my fav.

  9. I can only hear the 'Girl Gone Wild' if I turn down the volume, cover my ears slightly and blink 3 times ;-P. With that said, the snippets DID NOT do this song justice I was expecting to HATE it. I do like the 80ish feel to this song especially in the intro. I am not in love with 'Applause', but I do like it and it is growing on me.

Also with regards to Aura/Burqa and Applause being "leaked" (more so Aura/Burqa) many fans have said that Gaga leaked it herself, and I'm inclined to believe this. Especially with regards to her reaction to the Aura being leaked, and now with 'Applause' being leaked on the same day as Katy's 'ROAR"

  10. I give it a tepid C+ I am underwhelmed.

  11. I really like it! Maybe the song isn't that original, but I really like how she sings it, she dares to sound dirty

  12. I find it interesting that people are calling this a come back, if it were anything other than pop music this would be just another album with expected timing.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Firmly ignoring the lyrics..it's a happy catchy tune. I liked it well enough when I heard it first time some two 1/2 or so decades ago. But not well enough to bother remembering who came up with it.

Now if only she would dispense with the pretentious crap surrounding her, that would be okay...a happy pop ditty.

"great vocals" strikes me as somewhat of an overstatement though.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm not impressed. The Chorus and Hook is very catchy and nice, but the verses are awful to me. Her song writing sounds less random but somehow even more meaningless to me. Which is awful since the direction of her lyrics are meant to be...meaningful. At least the way she presents herself that is the idea. I didnt hear Girl gone wild at first but now that you mentioned it I can hear some similarities. I used to really like Gaga from "The Fame Monster" but I honestly cant stand for any of her other work. Including "the Fame". I would actually place "The Fame" lower than "Born this Way". At least with "Born this way" she had a purpose.

    ReplyDelete
  15. its all about that dodgy hip of hers, oh and if this were korea everything would be a comeback.

A song to dance that don't make me feel like dancing... Also find it very... low of her to release this because Katy Perry released her song...

    ReplyDelete
  17. ...I was let down :/ chorus is catchy, but not catchy enough to remember it. It's not one of those songs like "oh yeah, I know that!" like her others - poker face, paprazzi, or the edge of glory.
Still love her though, awesome performer and artist. Hope she stays unique and original

    ReplyDelete
  18. It had potential, but everything felt like a disconnected jumble of sound.
The verses were so juxtaposed to the chorus, the song just felt like a chorus with awkward moments leading up to the chorus again.
The chorus is catchy, that's really it.

Solid singing in the lower chest range, and the top notes were a nice surprise.

I'm sorry but I won't put 'em together for this song, I'll save the applause for something I find worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Karen!! Haven't seen you here in a while!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Maybe...but the other day she was ranting on twitter about people leaking shit. Also, do you wanna join the DD Fans group on Facebook?

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's better than I was expecting. The snippet I heard made me think it was going to be awful.

To be honest I didn't hear GGW and I still don't. Perhaps that's because I don't remember what GGW sounds like, at all. And I listened to it quite a few times last year. I guess it was just a forgettable song.

Anyway, I really like Gaga's vocals here. Is it just me or does her voice sound healthier/better supported? Makes me wonder if the rumor that her vocal coach was present during the recording of this album is true. Also, nice to see she's using her falsetto more, very pretty.

I hope she keeps the "fun" vibe alive throughout this album/era.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's just the song that was leaked first ('Aura') was pretty high quality

not to mention the lyrics of the song "Do you want to peak underneath the cover...behind the burqa" AND the fact that she was in WeHO dancing to it in the club PLUS the fact that DJ White shadow and her were tweeting jokes about that particular leak. Her primary response was on LittleMonsters.com saying not to spread the leak. It felt very much like omg it's leaking what ever will I do *sips tea*

lol maybe I'm too wrapped up in conspiracy theories! But yes I'd love to join the DD fans group on Facebook

    ReplyDelete
  23. Haha okay, I added you on Facebook, so I could invite you to the group, you can delete me or whatever if you want after I add you to the group.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Added you to the group, but it says 'pending admin approval'...whatever that means...

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL She'd have to first become unique and original. ;-)

  27. Ricky Yong Chin Yuan13 August 2013 at 02:34

I totally did hear Girl Gone Wild too!
The lyrics. GOSH. Lyrics. It's so lame. The verses almost gave me cancer.

Love the catchiness of the song, though... that's it...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ricky Yong Chin Yuan13 August 2013 at 02:36

A purpose that feels like a cheap gimmick.. .LMFAO

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ricky Yong Chin Yuan13 August 2013 at 02:38

It's called acting. She asked for the pop 911 shit and released it one week earlier. Maybe to gain sudden popularity. If I were right, didn't the same thing happen to Judas?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ricky Yong Chin Yuan13 August 2013 at 02:39

Gosh, now It's SUPER obvious! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I didn't really hear Girl Gone Wild, but I felt her phrasing and intonation was very David Bowie-influenced. I think this song will grow on me, it's nothing amazing, but I like Gaga so much better when she's just being herself, and not twisting and turning through waves of pretension.

    ReplyDelete
  32. what??? she released it because it was going to leak eventually...
nothing to do with katy - she and katy have both been leaked and she even tweeted katy saying they should go after the hackers lmao

    ReplyDelete
  33. -.-
now gaga is my queen but i hate it....
omg i was expecting more... even though i didnt want to

yeah the chorus is catchy but the verses are horrible

honestly even though the burqa demo is just a DEMO i prefer it to this
its nowhere near as big as bad romance or pokerface

it might grow on me but i think she should have chosen a different lead single
and DJ white shadow just does not do anything for me i hate his production she should have lead with something she worked with zedd on

    ReplyDelete
  34. Vinicius Ferreira Mendes13 August 2013 at 17:43

Yeah, she is also Santa Claus in disguise and can shot rainbows from her eyes.

    Eeeeeh... Naive people.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I thought it was fun and catchy, nothing too extravagant like past singles but I still liked it. The first words I heard I immediately thought "this sounds like David Bowie". Some phrases though would make radio listeners laugh or cringe but Gaga's lyrics always have a touch of weirdness. I loved the falsetto(?) notes! She should use them more often.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "Comeback single?" Aside from her hip surgery she hasn't really dropped that far off the radar...she can 'come back' after she shaves her head.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's weakly-written and they lyrics are just as pretentious and
nonsensical as it gets imo. It's catchy for sure, but after repeating it
a few times...it's really nothing special at all and far from being the
best pop song of the year like some of her fans are calling it. The
productions is generic at parts (like the "A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E"s in the
background) and the whole song feels a bit misconstructed
producion-wise. It was disappointed at first, but then I realized that
this what I should expect from Lady Gaga.

Final word imo: Applause is not terrible or even bad, but it is, in many ways, a mess.

    ReplyDelete
  38. As i told, cheap but people are buying: already on top of Itunes charts in like 20 countries and second in US chart. Wonder if this is gonna sell as good as BTW or Bad Romance.

    ReplyDelete
  39. i agree about it not bring strong lyrically and i dont like the vocal styling

and this is coming from one of her biggest little monsters

its growing on me but its nowhere near as good as bad romance

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maybe this is the song Gaga uses to draw people in to buy her album...Very catchy melody but no...I don't like it... D- in my book... LOL... I already know that if I hear it at a party I will love it but still... I don't like it.

    ReplyDelete

I could eat alphabet soup and shit out better lyrics, honestly. The verses are THAT bad.

    ReplyDelete
  46. And obviously I disagree. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  47. No, that was not exactly original.
Entertaining? Though, like I said many times, she can sing well enough, I find her voice to have an to my ears, unpleasant timbre.

    ReplyDelete
  48. probably not
BTW broke sales records and bad romance is one of highest selling singles - its been certified Diamond (X10 platinum)

    ReplyDelete
  49. i totally agree that its poorly written

but i cant that this comment is coming from a TAYLOR SWIFT stan

    ReplyDelete
  50. It is a rather patchy song. It's not well produced at all. I don't hear Madonna's 'Girls Gone Wild' in it that much, but there is no doubt she literally sneaks in a bit of Madonna's 'Sorry', chord by chord. I thought she would have learnt a lesson after Madonna proved to the whole world that 'Born this Way' was a cheap copy of 'Express Yourself'. Gaga really needs to start doing her own thing, rather than blatantly trying to imitate Madonna. I suspected the song would not gel together when I heard who she had chosen as producer.
There has been so much hype (which according to Google has gone mainly unheeded) on this musical 'effort', but to anyone with some acumen it clearly appeared as an attempt to put publicity over substance. She should work in the advertising business, unless she manages to really move on and get some NEW music out.
Nothing wrong with revisiting, but this does not sound like the 80s re-felt, ut sounds like she is stuck in the past.
Musically, this song is all but clever: it's a hasty job. It's totally artificial, there isn't a single instrument on it and even the synths have only two lines! Only two? Come on... If you want an applause, you need to give your audience something, this track gives little, apart from ordering her hard core fanbase to applaud. Applaud they will, no doubt, but sooner or later they will ask themselves, what for?
There's a general unquestioning acceptance amongst some of her fans of everything she says, a sort of military attitude, which is essential in the army, but really undermines art. I wonder how many people are bored with her talking about not even herself, but her fame. It's a limited topic, and she has pushed it to the extreme. It is almost pityful: this song seems to say, 'I have little to offer apart from my own fame,' followed by 'And you know what, I'm not even gonna try, just give me a round of applause'.

    ReplyDelete
  51. SO are you saying Gaga was going to chatrooms playing it over the mic herself?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yeah, all dance sounds the same, and all asians look the same.

    ReplyDelete
  53. " this song seems to say, 'I have little to offer apart from my own fame,'
followed by 'And you know what, I'm not even gonna try, just give me a
    round of applause'."

ROFL I'd say that about sums up her entire career so far AND the problem with it.
    Perfect summation dude! ;-)

  54. Nah, it's called the PR department dude.

So, this was the way the song "leaked"? People were playing parts of it on chatrooms? Thank you little monster, know I am 150% sure she only wanted a excuse to release the song on the same day as Katy. There were whole tracks leaking in good quality months before the final release without the artists changing the release date... Madonna and Beyoncé comes to mind, but that happens frequently to any major popstar on the digital era... It's just way too convinient that Gaga "needs" to release it before the schedule because a "hacker" (most likely her PR department as Opie said, a hacker would just leak it on the quality they were able to got) on the same way another big popstar is making a comeback after a huge album. The success of Prism may take Katy Perry to the top tier of the popstars, and as Gaga (and her troupe) showed already by atacking Madonna, Britney and Christina, she doesn't want another top tier popstar out there.

It's just funny that she opens her mouth so much to talk about peace, respect and no violence (when she should be opening it to sing), while nobody is milking the insecure teenager filled stan wars like her.

    ReplyDelete
  57. You've already replied to my comment before, but, now that you've found out that I'm a Taylor Swift stan, you felt the need to make another reply and ridicule me for being a Taylor Swift stan despite agreeing with me. I see....

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well I have tried consecutive listens and to be bluntly honest I don't find any redeeming qualities to this song. The production is just too mish-mashy and the vocals seem totally unnatural for Gaga...

I am sure there are plenty out there that adore this and think this is probably the greatest evolution in pop music since forever but its just meh meh meh to me, I prefer Roar by Katy but even that is generic and has a sense of done it all before.

From all of the releases due from a multitude of divas I am starting to feel overly skeptical as to whether any of them will be able to deliver anything fresh and new. Could this be the long overdue dance-pop demise round the corner...? I kind of hope it is, its all becoming very much boring to me. Think I will stick to my hardcore loves, but before someone jumps on me critiquing my point of view I would like to reiterate that this is my point of view only, I respect the fact you guys will be feeling completely different to what I do!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I only hear a tidbit of GGW in the pre-chorus for about a second or two, but of course Madonna fans are going to take that as PLAGIARISM!!!

It's definitely a safe choice for a lead single, which I suppose is smart. I'm hoping one of her Zedd or Madeon-produced tracks becomes a single!

Love the song, though, especially the chorus.

    ReplyDelete
  60. "all Asians look the same"

    ReplyDelete
  68. "Sorry" was my favorite record off Confessions and I really do not hear any similarities whatsoever. Honestly, simply because Lady GaGa does obviously get her shock-factor and performance styles from Madonna, everyone seems to try to categorizes Lady GaGa's songs as Madonna's previous songs (and y'all seem to go into the far reaches of Madonna's catalog). With a song that failed to reach top 40 like "Sorry", you'd be hard-pressed to find any average listener who'd heard of the song, which brings me to a point of why would Lady GaGa even attempt to rip a song that never made it far (Same argument should be made for Katy with her "Brave" comparisons)? It would make sense to rip "Express Yourself" (which this is probably the only song where I can definitely see similarities because of the gospel influences and chord progression), but "Sorry"? I have a huge amount of respect for Madonna and GaGa, but sometimes I feel like these comparisons are pulled out of thin air... Other than that, I really enjoyed the slight drum and bass feel of the song, the only complaint that I could possibly make for this song is how the vocals are mixed in the chorus. Lady GaGa is a pretty solid vocalist, so either this track is really big production wise, or they didn't EQ her vocals to be on top of the mix...

    ReplyDelete
  69. you prefer roar??? omg
i agree applause isnt that good
even as a hardcore fan i dont really consider it a good gaga song

but roar is bad even for katy's standards

atleast gaga tried to make it interesting

    ReplyDelete
  70. haha what?
im pretty sure that is what madonnas fucking career
all she had to offer was her tits and some catchy songs many of which she never even wrote

what i dont get is how gaga writes and co produces all her songs and hasn't been sued for copyright infringement yet everyone says she copies
yet there have been MAAAANYYY times where madonna's been sued and accused of working with a songwriter and changing a few of the words and claiming she wrote the whole damn song

madonna is the one who only has her fame to offer - kissing britney and christina and releasing that SEX book are the highlights of her career

and of course gaga's antics have also defined her career
but gaga would DRAG and destroy madonna if you stripped away the clothing and the stages and the extravagant dance numbers

just give her a piano and a mic and she will show you her antics arent the only things she has to offer
gaga is overall a better musician than madonna ever was or ever will be

    ReplyDelete
  71. hahaha
    look at every
"omg its like girl gone wild"
"its totally a rip off of Sorry"
"it copies Give Me All Your Luvin"

yeah shut up you guys are just pulling out songs out of thin air
just so you can say something negative

what next "omg gaga turned 28 years old.... madonna did that decades ago"
or "wow gaga is posing naked .... madonna did that ages ago - because madonna totally fucking invented nudity right???"

i dont even like the song but its obvious people are just looking for any tiny little similarity to a madonna song

    ReplyDelete
  72. LOL I never said Madonna was the better musician dude.

In fact, I have stated the opposite.

But as always you speak from a general position of total ignorance when it comes to what Madonna achieved...in spite of her lack of musical talent. And from previous experience, I know, it's pointless to attempt to penetrate your ignorance with facts. Not even going to bother.

The most glaring achievement being that a person like Gaga, who does have some talent but not enough to rise above the masses just on that...chooses to follow a blueprint of Madonna's career to achieve that " applause" she so craves.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Actually..most people criticize the tune for it's general unoriginality and piss poor lyrics.

And I love how you still attempt to put words in people's mouths and then "refute" those never said words. Such a beautiful demonstration of having no actual argument. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Not amazing, but hardly terrible. It's a shame about the verses because the chorus and the breakdown are absolute killer, especially the falsetto and growled notes!

    ReplyDelete
  75. "before someone jumps on me critiquing my point of view I would like to reiterate that this is my point of view only, I respect the fact you guys will be feeling completely different to what I do!"

    ReplyDelete
  76. I was mocking, not being serious.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Gaga attacked Madonna, Britney, and Xtina? Can you prove this, because I have never witnessed her say anything bad about another artist. She's only ever been positive towards others.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I was in the tinychat chatrooms myself, I saw firsthand somebody playing "applause" over the microphone, with my very own eyes and ears. Are you saying that she had her team going to random chatrooms that nobody knows about to play 10 seconds of Applause?

Then you think she'd want to release a song a week early, when she was hyping an August 19th release, so the song will flop sales-wise because people it's not out yet?

Smart, I wonder what other ridiculous beliefs you hold. Probably think evolution is a lie and global warming is a hoax.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Dude, you come across pretty silly posting such assumptions about someone posting regular enough for even her haters to know how ridiculous and desperate your assumptions are.

Just a few months back it was all over the news how popstars like Gaga buy youtube views.
You know how they do that ? They hire people who run bots and promise like 1500 views on your video for a mere 5 $

You are, it seems, utterly ignorant on what PR departments these days do. How completely unsurprising for a Gaga stan. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Vinicius Ferreira Mendes16 August 2013 at 20:38

She atacked at least Britney on her typical passive-agressive way by bashing popstars who lip-synch during Monster Ball... Funny enough she herself does it. Her troupe atacked Christina (Perez Hilton), Madonna (almost everyone who works with Gaga and has a Twitter) and Katy (DJ White Shadow), and I'm pretty sure those weren't the only ones.

One can say those were her "friends", not her... But considering nobody on Katy's, Rihanna's, Britney's, Madonna's, Pink's, Christina's, Mariah's, J-Lo's, Celine's, Minaj's etc troupes atacks other popstars on the same way Gaga's do...

    ReplyDelete
  81. Vinicius Ferreira Mendes17 August 2013 at 01:11

It may be hackers, it may be her PR team. Still, the song wasn't out for download, so it never really leaked. Or could people download it on the tiny chat? I don't believe so.

If the song leaked months before the final release (what also means it could be reworked :V), releasing it earlier would have made all the sense in the world. The song leaking one weak earlier? With an entire army of people that aren't that good on thinking by themselves to buy a lot of copies of it just to make sure it would sell a lot? Sorry, I actually do work with marketing and I see no valid point on doing that. Actually, it's not like preventing song to leak boosts its sales, as people that want to buy it will do so anyway.

Now, releasing the song one weak earlier to stir up fan wars and ride on the need of validation of your insecure army of emotional problematic fans (there were even people offering oral sex in change for paid downloads)? This does make a lot of sense. Funny thing she is being smashed by Katy, who is no musical genious, but if far more honest about her work.

    ReplyDelete
  82. If the best thing you have is that she said people who pay to come to a show should get live vocals, and then trying to act like Gaga has control over what her friends say on twitter, then you don't have much.

And she doesn't lip sync either, you're mistaken or fooled by some rubbish anti-Gaga youtube videos for sure. Before you refer to the puking video, that was during a dance break, where pre-recorded vocals play and she does the dance routine. Though she oftens sings over it as well.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I already knew about celebrities paying for more youtube views, which all of them do, even Katy. How that's relevant to reviewers with review copies playing the song over webcam chatrooms, I will never know.

Visit pop forums or twitter, and you can find many examples of people who hate on Gaga voting for Katy in polls, or buying Brave-I mean Roar. Gaga is being carried by her fanbase, and not only has to go up against Katy's fanbase, but fanatical Gaga haters who do anything to make her look bad, even making up lies.

Your negativity towards Gaga is tiring. I see in your comments you have a very clear dislike towards anybody who says anything positive about Gaga and generalize her entire fanbase. Seeing as you must be in your 40s, shouldn't you be a bit more mature than this?

I mean being mature age-wise doesn't always mean being mature attitude wise (see Bill O'Reilly) but it often does. I think you need to relax and lighten up. Please stop the drama and snarky comments, you aren't an angsty 14 year old girl, so stop acting like one.

  84. Lol double thumbs up just for the sarcastic nature of this comment haha love it!

  85. Thanks Stuey but in all fairness..it was Jayce who wrote that inspired summation of Gaga and her career. :-)

  86. Her vocals sound really great on this. I can't wait to hear if she builds on this with the album.

  87. If I really wanted to make a big deal I would have mentioned it in the title of the post. Can only imagine the click through I would have got on that. It was genuinely what came to mind on my first listen, so I shared. I'm not going to shy from saying things because people might be - unnecessarily -offended.

  88. I'm glad someone else heard it. And I'm glad you're not going to kill me ;)

  90. I wouldn't call it plagiarism. But I'm glad you- as a fan- heard it. Seriously was not trying to start something by saying it. And yes, it's not the whole song AT ALL, just a few parts.

  91. I've been disappointed, to some extent, by every Diva's return single this year. I think only Celine has surprised, but I think that's because I had no expectations for that.

  92. " I already know that if I hear it at a party I will love it but still" -that seems to be the story of my life! You could play cats wailing mixed with nails down a chalkboard while I'm at a party and I would go crazy for it.

  93. Quite a few people have said that about the David Bowie sound.

  94. I'll act like I want but thanks for your, no doubt, sage advice. Always looking for advice from people who spent all their time stanning for one fake mediocre pop singer. :-)

I'm afraid your claim I am tiring you with my negativity towards Gaga comes across a bit disingenuous.
Seeing as you choose, judging by both your profile and your insights in what non gaga fans do, to spent a lot of time with people sharing those negative views.
Would you per change simply be trying to insult my person because you lack actual argument regarding the real subject at hand?
Which would be Gaga's publicity antics.
Not what you think of me or how I should behave according to your bourgeois thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  95. It probably is great for dancing IDK. lol I'm gonna be patient with this song though, considering the genre. lol

    ReplyDelete
  96. Fake according to you, but I've seen countless interviews, and videos from fans, and she seems very genuine to me. You obviously don't know anything about her, I doubt you've even seen a single interview.

You spend your time being immature and negative towards a woman you know nothing about and her fan base, while she donates millions to red cross and other charities. What have you done to help anybody in this world?

    ReplyDelete
  97. People look at things in such a rudimentary way, they are not approaching them in a complex way. So what happens is that everything becomes nothing. Everything that we review means nothing anymore because nobody is able to look at anything with any sort of artistic eye, to find the complexity behind it. It’s like, "They both wear a hat, so it’s the same!", "They both wear a bra like this, it’s the same!", "Their hair is both this color, so it’s the same". But if you were to show someone like Matisse a huge board full of colors, he would probably tell you why they’re all different.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Sorry but saying all dance music sounds the same is like saying all asians look the same. It just points out your inexperience in the subject.

    ReplyDelete
  99. LOL yes...according to me. That is what I am doing here...giving my opinion!
So your counter argument to her being fake (and I have stated several times why exactly I say this because unlike you, I do my homework before I judge people) is...there are many fans of Gaga who disagree with me.

Like I said, you really have no counter argument.

Hence yet another baseless assumption on who I am or what I do or have done in my life.
Hilariously, you do so in one breath with claiming I cannot judge Gaga because I " don't know anything about her".

    Give it up already!
If you got no counter argument, simply move on to the next blog where someone mentions Gaga in a critically fashion. I am suspect plenty of those around. :-)

If she is not paying her EMPLOYES (let's give it the right name, they aren't going out with her to have some pizza, they are working for her) to diss other popstars, she isn't doing anything to stop them, as they are still doing it constantly. When someone who works for a brand (and Lady Gaga is a brand, as much as any other popstar) makes a public statement regarding that brand, they are representing it, so, Lady Gaga's troupe bashing other popstars on her name is the same as Lady Gaga bashing other popstars. I don't expect you understanding it as you really believe it makes any sense releasing a track one week earlier because someone played 30s of it on low quality on a random chat. =)

  101. Were you even disappointed by Heart Attack? :O

  102. No, Roar is a pretty good song. I really like it. Except for the fact that it's too similar to Brave and I just can't help feeling bad for poor Sara, who I really love. But I truly do like 'Roar'.

  104. Her employees are their own person who can say whatever they wish. They aren't under mind control or slaves.

    ReplyDelete
  105. My research contradicts your research. Only one of us can be right, and that's me, sadly for you. I could care less about her music, I care about the woman herself, and I will defend a good person til I am blue in the face.

You remind me of a religious person arguing against a scientist on the subject of evolution. You like to claim to know what you're talking about but in reality you're delusional, ignorant and all your 'evidence' is actually rubbish and confirmation bias.

It's clear you are not a very nice person, and you're wrongly convinced that Gaga is an awful person (what kind of awful person does all the good things she does?) and nobody is going to change your pathetic ways, so please place your opinion firmly up your rear end where it belongs. Good day to you.

They can say whatever they wish as people, but they can't say whatever they wish as employees. When they are talking about their boss on social media they aren't there as their own person, they are there as a part of the Lady Gaga brand and what they say can't be considered personal opinions anymore. ;) Most (all?) corporations would fire or at least scold an employee who uses social media to voice opinions that either go against the corporation beliefs or put its name on a bad light. Gaga is doing neither, so she either aproves it or wants it.

  109. And once again, I don't get the meaning of a Gaga video. Can someone explain it to me? because that moment when she's sahking at 2:55 she looks like she's having an epilepsy attack...

    ReplyDelete
  110. It's just supposed to be random "pop art". Performance art, modern art, popular art. Like Andy Warhol with dancing. I don't think there's a huge moral or something other than that--surprising because it's Gaga, but even within an a general artistic message, I think it's a message--just one that's more artist focused than pure politics.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Oh, ok, that "Andy Warhol with dancing" explained it very well, thank you ^^ If it's that then it's not a surprise that I don't like it so much: I've really never been keen on pop art, but I guess that people who are more into it will find the video more interesting.

out of all her videos this is the first iv understood since telephone. the others have a big artistic symbolic made up story that you have to research and figure out but this is pretty straight forward for a gaga vid, its her, Therese dancing , some colour and she is portraying Shakespeare,Marilyn Monroe etc. all historical figures who have received applause but have gained huge criticism. i do how ever feel the average mother or teenager wont get it and will still be like "omg gagas so weird". i think it would be better off more mainstream and the bad special fx goose gaga head turkey thang was awful. all in all i like it but its nothing on her past work . 7/10.
