[Music Video] Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball"

miley cyrus crying wrecking ball

The follow-up to Miley Cyrus's publicity generating single We Can't Stop has dropped! Thankfully new song Wrecking Ball finds the singer changing gear and delivering a tune with a little more depth than the song that preceded it.

The new song also gives Miley a chance to show everyone that she possesses a set of unique and capable pipes (I can't wait to hear her sing this live). I just wish she hadn't gone for shock value with the nudity in the video because I think the faux-scandal it's probably going to generate might overshadow the song itself.

But whatever, the Dr. Luke and Cirkut produced song is a corker and that's good enough for moi!

Thoughts?

  2. I really enjoy the vocals of this song. It kind of reminds of "old Miley" music. Hopefully when her album comes out it'll have some of her old material.

  3. I really like this song and I agree her voice is on point here too, again she doesn't really get the credit she is due for her talents, all this nonsense recently with the VMA's will not help solve this! Good work on the song and production for sure.

I also agree the video seems unecessary, she really could have made something tasteful and current with the concept of the song in mind, the nakedness does nothing for me, but then hey how unsurprising is that... >_<

  4. It just doesn't make sense to me...I'm sorta angry because the song is actually pretty nice and I was expecting more from the video. Why was she licking the sledgehammer again? Can we do without and sexual subliminal messages for once, please Miley!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Well I'd like to imagine that the wrecking ball is a metaphor for her love and how much of a destructive force it is, but still how attached she is to is and how vulnerable (naked) it makes her feel. I'd like to imagine the hammer is also another metaphor for destructive love, yet she's still so obsessed with it (basically blowing the hammer).

But I mean she probably just went on set and said "okay if I do this people will think I'm sexy and edgy, but still artistic. Let's do it." Still I think it's a really nice video overall, I think she looked beautiful and the shots were very clean and smooth, and I love the song also, I was hooked by the first listen.

  6. I really love the song. the video is pretty cool but the hammer licking was just unnecessary and tacky.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Get lost with your hooker obsession...Please!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think they were in such a hurry to film the "dressed " part, she forgot to put on her pants.
Which is a real shame because I could live with the nude part as symbolic for the vulnerability had it been offset with an fully dressed ( just a pair of jeans , even shorts, would have sufficed Miley!) image.
Other than that I liked the video and I really like the vocals on this pretty decent song.

    ReplyDelete
  9. there was no need for that hammer to be molested by her tongue....no need.

dont like the song but the videos kinda cool and 1980s ish.

    reminded me of this lol.

  10. I think the last laugh is going to be on Miley. 11 million views in one day.

  11. words from co-writer herself Mozella music on her twitter "I'm just going to through it out there. Maybe nudity is the representation of feeling emotionally stripped and vulnerable. And maybe she is kissing the sledgehammer because we all secretly love the pain."
what a great song and a great video if it weren't for the 'secretly loving the pain" i would probably say the video ruined the song. then again im quite sure that if it was Rihanna licking the sledgehammer no one would even care and might actually love that part. The girl is trying to grow up, i wish critics would cut her some slack

  12. yeah and no one is even talking about GAGA hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  13. In my book a definite plus. ;-)
And this song anyway is more deserving of attention than Gaga's single imo

    ReplyDelete
  14. Um yeah, views mean nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah Miley has amazing legs...

    ReplyDelete
  16. The only plus hahaha. But a good one, indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Good song. To me the video could have been better though. I hate Miley but I also hate the shut shamming she's getting, totally undeserved. I actually think the video was overall tasteful. Nudity is not all about sexuality but also represents vulnerability, which was relevant to the song. So fuck all the people calling her a slut.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think it's an OK song with some good moments (like the pre-chorus for example), but overall, it's OK. I didn't watch the video and not planning to watch to. I don't want it to ruin the song for me or make me lose more respect for her. So I'll leave it at that.

    ReplyDelete
  19. People don't grow up by licking hammers imo. But to each their own.

    ReplyDelete
  20. They mean people come and check out the song and might turn out they like it. As in this case seems to be the over riding factor...people like the song.
And that means they might buy it. Because let's face it..mp3 is what brings in the money. Videos are just basically advertisement for a song

    ReplyDelete
  21. She sure does! I haven't seem legs that good since my boss in Israel.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If her next released single has a more artsy vibe like this then it would be easy to assume her "trashy" side was an act for publicity.

    Whatever it was it worked.

    ReplyDelete
  23. She already released those "Backyard Sessions" videos last year.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The video isn't really bad per se. The concept is good, the execution is poor.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I thought acting was one of her jobs. She does it poorly here.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't think she is either. We'll have to wait and see.

Why so many dislikes for the video though?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bandwagonism is my guess

Lol I don't dislike the video. Nor the We Can't Stop video. I just disliked her performance with Robin Thicke.

  29. I feel like some of it is pearl clutching.

I know it's not singing because here's Mariah showing us how that should NOT be done

  35. please someone tell me what is multi - octave?

    ReplyDelete
  36. lol... that was effin terrible. Really not one of her shining post-Glitter moment

Then again... good vocals from Mariah are kind of like legendary pokemon nowadays. They're elusive and rare, but you know they exist... somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  37. LOL My point really... these days they are elusive and rare. Unlike with some other divas.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The phrase "multi-octave" means more than one octave.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hope she gets her act together for the new era. There is strong hope imo.

    ReplyDelete
  40. kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk hehehehehehehehe lolllllllllllll

And please .... Do refuse yourself these idiotic comments you post. Nobody will miss them. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. LOL Hon, don't bother with the links.

    ReplyDelete
  44. LOL have not heard that expression. Going to have to look it up.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Glad to educate. :)

I don't like the video cause I think it's boring. But not because of her being nude.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The bigger "shocker" seems to be though the sledgehammer licking.
I continue to be amazed at a people thinking sex is obscene but killing dirt poor villagers on the other side of the world with machines operated from New mexico or some such doesn't strike them as obscene enough to raise their voices en masse???

    ReplyDelete
  47. multi - octave means reach five octaves.

    ReplyDelete
  48. for example - nicole scherzinger or jessie j they have the ability to reach fifth octave

    ReplyDelete
  49. People need to get their priorities straight.

    ReplyDelete
  50. i have to disagree with you, i though she was convincing and natural. also i don't think she was acting, she was just being herself

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think vocally she was convincing but just the crying bit was not convincing acting.
But the voice definitely is. Which is why I hope when she gets this nonsense out of her system she will move into a music more voice and lyric driven because her voice really suits songs about life IMO

    ReplyDelete
  52. Luiz, just quietly sit down.

You know the ending was lipped, right?

    ReplyDelete
  53. ROFL nope ya poor sod. It's spelled with a "d".

And in the meantime...this is how Mariah sounds these days

Oh and of course in the magic land of MakeBelieve Luiz lives in. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I hope you weren't referring to me with that comment. I already apologized! >_<

    ReplyDelete
  56. lip your ass. Deal with it, the queen still got it, hoe.

    ReplyDelete
  57. lol
    U only wish, you hoe.

    ReplyDelete
  58. the past your ass, u hoe. Mariah is stil the vocal queen. You're trash

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh NO! I was referring to a certain singer who's name I refuse to utter but it starts with an R.
Why for Pete sake would I call you trashy??? Even if I didn't like you, and I do, there still be no reason to use that particular description for you at all. Quite the opposite I would say judging from your comments. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  60. No you sorry sod. Didn't you get that yet? I really wish Mariah did not sound like this. But as this actual recording of her voice shows...she does sound like this today

    ReplyDelete
  64. I think you are thinking of your mother when it comes to making sex tapes Luis.
In the meantime this is how Mariah actually sounds these days
    Deal with it sugah!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=votwb5-ZmkA

    ReplyDelete
  65. OMG sorry I misunderestood your comment!! When you said "unlike one whose name I won't mention" I thought you were saying that that "one" does think she is trashy, instead of that "one" being trashy himself. Excuse me it was like 1 AM when I read it so my mind wasn't on its fullest XD

    ReplyDelete
  66. I would agree that the acting was horrible, but that's because this wasn't really acting. She wasn't acting like she was hurt, she truly was hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  67. are u still here trying to prove something, hoe?

This is Mariah Carey, U cunt. And i'll stop talking to u once again.

  68. ROFLMAO Oh ya poor sod. First of all Yes I am still here and I don't intend to go anywhere else. Every time you post lies in combination with calling people names...I will be here posting the truth.

Second...I'd prefer it if you didn't "talk" to me. :-)

Third....I am not stating lies about Dion and I am not stanning for her.
Therefor I am not bothered by your video.

Here's another video of how Mariah really sounds these days.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gae1rI9Ebgo

    ReplyDelete
  69. No problem. Just hated the thought you thought I was talking about you. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Well, if the media doesn't promote something, the public is too stupid and uneducated to consider it important. "Bug splats" - the bombing of innocent Pakistanis remotely from the US - has had hardly any media attention and Obama (or Obomber, as I call him) didn't even admit it was happening until fairly recently. On the other hand, the media manufactured a faux-outrage against Miley Cyrus and have been talking about her non-stop since the VMA's (and quite a lot since the We Can't Stop video dropped). Her record company probably paid for this attention in order to make her famous and get her notoriety. And it worked. People are talking about this completely irrelevant woman who can't twerk to save her life, while not understanding war crimes committed by their own country.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Men don't show their vulnerability by being naked. Just sayin.

And don't call people "slut-shamers" just because they don't like her video. Nudity and/or overt sexuality for females is usually a replacement for actually doing something interesting. Then they act like this nudity actually means or represents something. Bullshit. It's an excuse to draw in viewers by offering them faux controversy and female flesh to ogle at. Nudity for female celebrities is inversely proportional to their level of talent. Look at Rihanna. Can't sing, can't dance and doesn't write her own songs. Look at Lady Gaga. Steals all "her" music and imagery from other artists. Both women naked or acting sexually very, very often. Now we can add Miley to this list of talentless, over-hyped professional female nudists.

    ReplyDelete
  72. wrong, the Billboard charts now take into account Youtube views and plays as well

    ReplyDelete
  73. Not the worst I've heard her sing. It's Like That is hardly a song for showing off ones vocals.

She performed Hero twice on the UK X Factor, once in 2007 and again in 2008 if I remember correctly. Both were atrocious, but the first one was much worse and for some suspicious reason I can't find it on youtube!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Both Miley and Gaga can sing though. I agree whether you like them is a matter of taste and I have many issues with gaga. I find her mediocre. But neither woman is musically "talentless".
And yes..men feel just as vulnerable when in the nude

    ReplyDelete
  78. LOL I wouldn't know how it rates up against other poor performances. I sort of got told about these two but I don't really go looking for them.

I had just noticed , after seeing a number of recent performances, that really none these days are anywhere near actually "amazing" to non hard core fans ( which to me is one hall mark of an "amazing" performance...that it can blow the non fan's mind)

But you know..since it is sure to really annoy the foul mouthed manchild..I say post them if you find them. ;-)

  80. What? To 'make' her famous?

You realize this was the girl who played Hannah Montana?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Vinicius Ferreira Mendes15 September 2013 at 16:41

I just find it funny that once a woman goes naked, she is not alouded to be talented anymore.

Gaga can sing, she can play instruments, and even if I dislike her, she did wrote some good music and had some pretty interesting lyrics before trying to be the savior of humanity.

About Miley... Do you know the girl actually got a nomination for a Golden Globe for a song she wrote at 15? And she does have a good (and distinctive) voice, a strong stage presence and a even stronger sense of how to put emotion on her work through her voice.

Rihanna isn't the best of the singers nor the best of her dancers... IMO her strongest contribution to pop music is all visual (she hasn't had a bad video in years, and is IMO the pop singer who most consistently delivers good visual works nowadays), what IS a talent by itself, but she also can do some magic on studio... A lot of her hits would have never worked on anybody else's voice and interpretation.

    ReplyDelete
  82. LOL so with you until you started praising Rihanna. "work in the studio" is not her talent but that of the producers and engineers. As is her visual image the talents of others.

So no, Rihanna actually happens to be "talentless" indeed.
There is nothing Rihanna does which requires actual talent.

    ReplyDelete
  83. While I don't think she's immensely talented, I think calling her talentless is a bit harsh. She's shown on more than one occasion that she's capable of delivering more-than-competent vocal performances, and she's not a terrible dancer either, surely that counts as talent of some sort Opie? :P

    ReplyDelete
  84. Depends on whether you define talent as "some ability" or as "particular aptitude/a marked innate ability/natural ability of SUPERIOR quality" . (superior as in above average)

As always..I am going with the dictionary in my use of words.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Vinicius Ferreira Mendes15 September 2013 at 20:16

I don't know... I read once Jay-Z was pissed with some of her visual choices (like picking Chris Brown look-alikes to be her romantic pair on videos), considering Jay Z is the one in charge of her, this shows she does have an amount of imput on her releases. About the quality of the videos, she isn't taking the camera herself, but IMO knowing who to hire is one of the biggest talents someone on a career that require multiple professionals may have. And about her on studio, some of her songs have pretty interesting emotional deliveries... Something that is her of merit even if she is being directed, as she IS able to deliver it. She can't do the same live, but IMO this is where the fact she can't sing comes into focus.

Is Rihanna is amazingly talented? No, she isn't. Is she talented enough to make it possible taking the best of what her industrial-scale production alouds her? Yes, she for sure is... And a lot of people isn't.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I am still disagreeing. I am convinced she is entirely a product of other people's talents. And I do not consider the ability to sign your name under a contract and follow instructions a talent.
Certainly I was of course talking about artistic talent. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  87. yeah vocally she was convincing but then again i am really convinced with her crying, it felt to me that she is my friend and she came to me to tell about her bf and cried and eventually got naked LOL. it felt real. i think the plot/setup and the direction could have been better so that miley could really translate all of her feelings and we could understand it a little bit more. and i was disagreeing with what reinko said that she is a good actress, meryl must be laughing now LOL

    ReplyDelete
  88. Personally I don't feel I have any trouble understanding her feelings. I think they got translated very well. I just thought the crying bit felt unconvincing.

Reiko never said she is a good actress. She said that she had gotten the impression Miley is an actress and therefor expected her to be able to act and found her surprisingly lacking when it came to that.

    ReplyDelete
  89. she said "I thought acting was one of her jobs. She does it poorly here." so i would assume miley is a good actress in her standards based on my understanding of the words she used.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Well I took her words to mean..she thought she was a professional actress but that this was in that case poor for a professional actress.
Though that would indicate a certain level I don't think it indicates "good" perse. Could also mean adequate.

Usually, I think, if there is no adjective added... the presumption is to adequate rather than good.
But ya know..I am no native English speaker myself. I could well be wrong.
Guess only Reiko herself can clarify her thoughts. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  91. I meant views mean NOTHING in relation to the merit of the song. You are dismissed.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Still an ill advised comment, thats like saying having a number one has no relation to the merit of the song. I'll dismiss myself thanks ;)

    ReplyDelete
  93. It means more than one octave. I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean five.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Such a dumb comment wow. The fact that it needs to be explained to you is worrying.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Uhm I would never call her "irrelevant".
Anybody who made this, is never irrelevant to my life. I am afraid you misinterpreted my point there.
