[Music Video] Lady Gaga, "Aura"

Lady Gaga has a part in the new Robert Rodriguez-directed movie, Machete Kills. With that role also comes a spot on the soundtrack, to which Gaga has selflessly handed over Artpop opener, Aura.

The film looks to be an over-the-top action romp with B-movie leanings, and Gaga's track scores the montage of clips (in the just released lyric video) perfectly. The song itself reminds me of Born This Way's Americano- which I liked- so it's unsurprising I enjoyed Aura from the first listen.

Being that the project looks like a whole heap of overblown zaniness, I wouldn't be holding my breath for any Oscar nods to materialise from Gaga's part as La ChameleĆ³n. But who cares, fun times look to be ahead- even if ironically so!

Thoughts?

  1. Im not the biggest fan of the song but I am very excited for the film. The Machete series is very light hearted and not meant to be taken too seriously so Its nice to see Gaga showing her acting skills in this. It actually really suits her. Especially her role being a master of disguise LOL. But anyways Im not gonna be buying Artpop but Im definitely watching Machete Kills for Gaga and Vergara. I wonder what kind of merciless Gorey death Gaga will undergo...

I hated the song back then with the demo. I still do now, but only the first quarter of the song. As the song progresses it gets really catchy.

As for the movie... DAMN I'M FIRED UP I WANNA WATCH IT.

  3. After the song progressed I was really impressed, it seems to go perfectly with the film.

  4. oh? She undergoes a merciless gory death? I might just have stumbled upon a reason for seeing that movie. But wait...I would also be forced to hear that song again. Nah..think I will just skip this particular effort altogether. ;-)
I'll just stick to the Super Heroes franchise for light hearted entertainment.

  6. I actually really liked the song when the demo leaked. And I preferred it a lot to Applause, but now I actually feel like this has grew weary on me and Applause actually grew on me. I think it's still good song tho, definitely will be on rotation in my workout playlist, and the production shines with Gaga's voice in the center. I like that it's tongue in cheek, rather than hyper-serious like BTW was.

  7. Supposedly she fights with Machete and he kills her. Is was said before that it's a bloody death indeed.

  8. The chorus is the best part and I'm glad she didn't change it as much as she did the verses. The verse vocals in the demo were a lot harsher and more demonic, which I loved, so I'm a little upset she went for more of a softer approach. I'm hoping that the way the song is cut is done so it'll fit the video and that the album version isn't as, well, strange.

I love that she chose this as her debut. It's completely perfect with how ridiculous and pointlessly over the top it is. It's everything Gaga embodies.

  9. Apparently her version of Aura for her album is quite different to the one displayed in this video, I read? It's a lot closer to the original demo leak everybody heard. Either way, I enjoy the song, and am very excited to see the new Machete film ;). (@Anthagio was going to post this as a comment, but hopefully you'll see this anyway, because I agree muchly about the verse vocals).

  10. i prefer the vocals she used for the verses on the DEMO

i really hope she changes her mind and reverts back to the passion tinged vocals in the demo because it added so much flare to the track but here the verses sound kinda boring - the chorus is epic

and im so excited for machete
and for her to perform this song live - the itunes fest performance was kind of a let down i imagine a much more epic performance for this song

  11. Dude, I am sure you as usual misunderstood. That's why it was a direct response to Brian. As he does understand when I am joking and generally understands me well enough to know that I would never for real wish any harm on Gaga, or any artist for that matter. Certainly not just because I don't like them.

  13. Cheers Rudi! :-) Only people I wish physical or mental anguish on are murdering politicians and those who abuse animals. Making music I don't like...doesn't quite warrant wishing ill I feel.
