[Free For All Friday]

This flu/cold will be the death of me.....

If you don't know the score, here be the rules:
  • Try not to get too perverted- this site  needs to basically be "safe for work".
  • If somebody starts a controversial subject, try keeping it civil when dealing with it. If things get out of hand please flag the conversation.
  • It would be nice if it stuck to music, but it's not a requirement! So talk about news, current events, how you're getting your hair done next time you hit the hairdresser! Whateves, really!
  • No nasty comments aimed at other users.
Inappropriate hugs to all of y'all (hi fives to the underagers), and wishing you an awesome weekend!

  7. Lauryn Hill/Erykah Badu & D'Angelo/Maxwell will forever be the "Kings & Queens of Neo-Soul", in my opinion.

And on that note, I truly do miss Lauryn Hill; I wonder if she'll ever be the same again...

Shamefully, this is the only De'Angelo song I really know lol, but I am a big Maxwell and Hill fan. Along with Legend, Maxwell/Hill/D'Angelo will always have my heart for Neo-Soul and Old School R&B. I do miss Lauryn though, especially from her Sister Act eras. :/

Man, music has really changed in the last 10-15 years...I wouldn't mind getting back to the roots for a little while.

  9. Mariah Carey: Mine Again

This will forever stand as my favorite song from her 21st century output thus far with 'My Saving Grace, Through the Rain, Reflections & I Wish You Knew' being my 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th favorites.

This is Neo-Soul Balladry at it's very best and 'The Emancipation of Mimi' will always one of the 'Greatest R&B albums' of the 2000's decade.

    CLASSIC.

  11. And here is the Top 10s lists for Eurythmics and Annie Lennox's solo career.

    Top 10 Eurythmics Songs
    10. "When Tomorrow Comes"
    9. "I Saved the World Today"
    8. "Love Is a Stranger"
    7. "The Miracle of Love"
    6. "Who's That Girl?"
    5. "Here Comes the Rain Again"
    4. "Never Gonna Cry Again"
-Not particularly well known song, which is in fact their debut single. It's got a "reggaedelic" new wave sound with a rare flute solo from Annie
    3. "The Walk"
    -electro jazz kickazz
    2. "17 Again"
-ironic because I am 17, but the bridge of the song is so phenomenal
    1. Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
    -what else would you expect?

    Annie Lennox solo
    10. "Precious"
    9. "Wonderful"
    8. "Pavement Cracks"
    7. "Into the West"
    6. "Sing" feat. Madonna and various other divas
    5. "Why"
    4. "A Thousand Beautiful Things"
    3. "Little Bird"
    2. "Dark Road"
    1. "Cold"
-the anthem of the ice queen who wants her heart melted, this is my favorite because it is pure soul, which is where Annie's voice flourishes

  12. Has anybody on here heard of this woman? She's a Romanian soprano named Angela Gheorghiu, I'm pretty sure I saw this video a few years ago and I was very impressed, it could have been someone else, but I know she East European from her last name, so I'm pretty sure this is her. She's ridiculously good nonetheless! This is her singing my favorite aria (not really, just one of a literal handful that I know), "L'Amour est un Oiseau Rebelle" from Bizet's "Carmen".

On happier front. Way happier..did you hear of Kate Bush's announcement today? She will be doing 15 concerts from august on!

Going to leave Annie Lennox alone or I will be forced into a rant on popstars and political activity.

Liking Angela's voice. Seeing the former Dutch queen flash by was a surprise though LOL

I was listening to music after an exam today and came across this song, the original version of Killing Me Softly With His Song by Lori Lieberman. Before today I had only heard the famous covers of this song and I must song this version has been stuck in my head for a while today. Just thought I would share it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WxY47jh9owA

I think she has a beautiful voice, her problem is she often sings things she truly cannot handle. Repertoire either too out of her range (too low or too high) or too challenging (she has tried the bel canto repertoire). And it's weird, because her voice has the color of a spinto, but the size is light-lyric.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Primo Uomo Assoluto22 March 2014 at 03:01

Which would be the best one to check out if I'm into showy vocals? I listened to her entire "Sad sing along songs" album a friend mailed me, and though I liked the music, I thought the vocals didn't vary much. A very nice voice, but only caught my attention when she would dip into the lower register. Does she have an album or specific songs showing some showy belting or up and down range or vocal acrobatics?

  24. Primo Uomo Assoluto22 March 2014 at 03:03

Anastacia is back! The new album is called "Resurrection" and comes out in May :) her voice sounds more solid and healthier than it has in a while (she beat cancer twice!). She knows the only way to defeat a dragon is to burn stronger than its flame, and she rises like a phoenix again and again and again.

  27. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Finally, first time since 1979! I hope she hits America, or maybe I'll just have to get over my fear of flying and get over to see her! That might just be a dream come true if I could see Kate live! And no, I didn't hear that announcement (although you've probably figured this out by now, lol)!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Damn right about that! I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge Kate Bush fan! This is my second favorite of hers, my favorite being "Breathing". This is quite possibly the most emotionally moving song ever written!
"Oh, darling make it go away
    Just make it go away"
Oh God, got teary eyed just writing those lyrics. That NEVER happens to me!
    I love her, she's a legend, a superwoman!

  29. i hope my cat doesn't turn out to be as obese as these cats

    ReplyDelete
  30. I thought she went pretty high at the end here.
And she does some showy stuff on Modern World. I posted those already (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnYAV6pLAOI )

And you know I can't really say anything on the theoretical subject but to my uneducated ears, this one sounds like real awesome singing. Though it has no acrobatics, I think few could deliver this kind of live singing.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FH3oeFh_pM

But essentially that kind of Whitney/Mariah acrobatic vocals are not really her style. She writes her own songs and they are very much about her own life. I think her focus is more on getting the lyrics/feelings across. (Sad Singalong Songs is very much about that).
Essentially she is a "rock" singer I suppose.
Best I can do is advice you to check out this new album ( it's on youtube in full) or watch the video of an older concert. One song she sings in falsetto. (18.55)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Her voice in the Let It Go cover sounds too nasal in the midrange, but her belts are very beautiful IMO. However, I agree with Opie, the Frozen covers are getting very annoying, even more than the Rolling In The Deep ones lol

    ReplyDelete
  41. Primo Uomo Assoluto22 March 2014 at 09:30

Interesting, when she was messing around I heard a whistle tone, I think Bb6, or a trill between Bb6 and Ab6, and then a head dominant mix Ab5.
Does she have studio recordings that show vocal acrobatics? From what I've heard in studio, she stays in a more middle and low register.

  46. Can someone talk abut Rebecca Ferguson with meee? I am like so obsessed with her second album "Freedom". I honestly didn't know of her existence until someone showed me her song about 3 or 4 months ago... or so. She's definitely not strong vocally, some even call her overrated. But I don't know, that voice mesmerizes me in a way and she's a very humble person (or so it seems). Can someone tell me her vocal type? :o

My favorite song from the album, I realize its kind of 'outdated' since it was out last year? The lyric kind of help me moved on from a lot of things,
this is the recorded live studio version(favorite version):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3uoZtHG4qA

  47. There's a voice buried under there, but you have to even out that mix some and learn better breath management. In fact your breathing through out was so choppy it kinda hindered your sense of tempo. Some parts actually were tinging upon resonance which is great, practice your breath support, mixing (which I must say has improved substantially from before) and your intonation.

  48. I love Maine Coons! They are the sweetest cats in the world too...and gigantic... my neighbor has one and the cat is pushing 46 inches and weights 22 pounds...but He's a gentle giant.... And boy does he hate going outside...With all that fur I don't blame him...This GA weather gets ridiculously hot in the summer. Wait....or are these Sweedish coons? I need to do more research!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. For what it was worth, I thought that she sounded stunning here. That D3 at 0:08 was impeccable but of course, her tonality, as of late, is definitely at its greatest (to my ears) when she's singing within her lower- mid register - in full voice - or her falsetto/whistle register.

Her voice may have lost (or is slowly losing) its strength & endurance to truly belt and freely sustain passages above D5 (especially live) but I am fine with that. In all honesty, I think her vocals would be much more suited to Jazz/Blues/Soul-Jazz- oriented stylings now because power ballads are just no longer within her reach. I would love to here her cover 'Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington' or even 'Roberta Flack & Anita Baker' - they all, largely, sang within the 3rd, 4th & early- 5th octaves and Mariah's voice does great justice in those regions today.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh wow! I gotta do some research on these. They sound sooooo bad ass and also look the part. And you know since you're a fellow cat lover we have to get married, right? LOL JK, anyways, it can't be worse than here in GA. It rains none stop here, the mosquitos can take down small birds, and the humidity adds an extra 10 degrees to the already generally always over 95 degree summer....LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh I only know her best known tunes. But those I think are a class apart. My favorite will remain That's No Way To Say goodbye. But that is in part because i am a fan Of Leonard Cohen.

  60. Seren would probably have a way better answer to that than I do. I know he was working on a vocal profile for a while.
I am not that familiar with her albums and also I told you...I wouldn't recognise anything as particularly "acrobatic". If I already do, I usually don't remember when and where because obviously, seeing who my favorite artists are and who I care very little for...such things do not have my deep interest. :-)

But again..if you go to the youtube you can find all her albums in full. In fact, if you go to this dude's channel you will find just about everything Anouk has ever done I think

  62. I am not into Tori at all tbh. A friend tried to get me interested in the past but...she's just not for me.

  71. I kinda figured as much, but maybe this is what it'll take for me to get over my fear of flying. I guess I could stop asking you and Google it but Imma just so-a excited =)

    ReplyDelete
  72. OK, just saw. Unfortunately, it looks like I may be back in school EXTREMELY close to the August dates :-( and it'll be my senior year. Faaaaaaaaaaaaack! And that'll be after less than two months of summer, since all this stupid snow has pushed the school year back to damn near beginning of July! Ugh! But, I may just have to make a sacrifice for Kate Bush. I've regretted missing Fiona Apple on her "Anything We Want" mini-tour when it hit Philly recently. Which brings me to another question. I saw your comment on Tori Amos, what is your opinion on Fiona Apple? She's who got me into the alternative singer-songwriter style and eventually into Kate Bush.

Here's two of my favorite ones of all time, which both coincidentally have opera in them, go figure...
¡Ay caramba! I swear there's an old man's mind living in this 17-year-old body.

  92. IMO her low's are overrated, they are good but nothing out of this planet, also her notes below D3 aren't that great, I'd prefer her to stick to her whistle and middle voice. Also her falsetto doesn't help, she always seems to need to break into falsetto and I don't know why.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Also I can't stand her whispering sultry thing, it's like she always does that and it get's sooo boring.

  95. OMG!!! I just realized that! Mimi = Mariah and Nippy = Whitney. But sadly, the cat won't be named any of those three terrific names. Her name is going to be Firestar, a ripoff of the Warriors series. :D

    ReplyDelete
  96. LOL "firestar" what a peculiar name hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  97. Apparently, those people have never heard of Miss LaBelle or any of the other great singers who KNOW their instrument. It's sad how most singers that debuted during the 1990's are already going through a vocal declination when singers who debuted during the 1970's and 1980's ARE STILL SINGING AND SINGING FINE!

    ReplyDelete
  98. of course i knew you would!! that's why i was astounded that you haven't heard anything from her. this song is so empowering and if we observe the visuals seemed to be the inspiration of miley's we cant stop video

    ReplyDelete
  99. Can't say I experienced that empowering effect Josh. But then again, I already feel pretty empowered so it takes a lot before I register it from a song.

  100. definitely agree with Opie, you should divide this to paragraphs because people now have shorter attention span. This kinda reminds me of the Nat Geo article that was so interesting but i didn't read because it was 5K words and in a same format as yours but with littler font and i was like HELL NO. LOL

Well it is nice to see I am not the only person who does this. Thankfully I have music stores where I live cause I tend to just go and buy old CDs when the artist grabs my attention and listen to them for long periods of time before moving onto the next one.

    ReplyDelete

  103. LOL! That picture doesn't do him any justice. You have to see him in motion. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Bruh, she sounds just like you actually lol Her speaking voice anyway haha. A contralto at its finest. This is when I laugh when people call Rihanna a contralto. You see the obvious contrast between a true contralto voice and a low Soprano/Mezzo.

But damn, she sounds a lot like you lol

    ReplyDelete
  105. Yeah bruh, you got a tax on dat ass. You better watch out, niggas over here be thirsty! lol jk

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yes! I was like Who da fuq is this woman who stole my voice? But she talks deeper than I do. For some odd reason my voice comfortably talks around F3-C4 even though as of lately I've been talking around F2-A2. I still catch myself going up high in the third octave LOL. And when I start yelling....It gets very androgynous...

    ReplyDelete
  107. LOL, thanks, I try, I try. Some times I'm too high maintenance for my own damn self but I try reguardless...LOL JK.

  111. I don't like it... I LOVE IT! Your analysis of today's Pop Culture is spot-on in my opinion. However, Lorde is not the only one who should get recognition and respect for the risks she take. Another prime example is Lana Del Rey, her music is simple yet for the right people, tasteful. There has to be a blend of everything, good and bad for a song to get recognition and considered "good." However, music is music and everybody has a taste, whether you like their taste or not.

    ReplyDelete
  112. EXACTLY!!!! Celine's the only who has sustained her stunning voice! Her voice truly has longevity.

You must be in Germany or too close to Germany, because I think that's the only country where they block all that stuff, thanks to the lawsuit Frank Peterson (Sarah Brightman's producer) put against YouTube like 5 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Primo Uomo Assoluto23 March 2014 at 00:21

Of course! And some like Barbra only now, in her 70's, started to show a certain dryness in her tone, and a very slight and rare intonation inaccuracy. Same thing with Mina, who is in her 70's and her vocal range, power and flexibility seem to be the same as when she was 30 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Well, take into consideration the demanding catalog of those singers in decline, unhealthy lifestyle habits, and stage of life. Also important to note: personal struggles and stress.

Even if voices are 'supposed' to ripen at the middle age, every voice is different and should not be held to the same standard. Plenty of great singers had early declines- Callas, for one.

I, honestly, felt this statement to be a bit of an attack on a certain diva I stan for.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Dearie, where have you been the last 17 years? Old news I'm afraid- her voice has been going since Butterly ;)

    ReplyDelete
  120. Much as I dislike this statement, it is unfortunately the truth.

Mainly because Celine did not have to deal with pre-existing vocal conditions or drugs.

    ReplyDelete
  121. LOL distance to Germany has no relevance. And you know where I am at. I think it is related to Anastacia's record company tbh. And their promotional strategy.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Actually, people are starting to see Callas' decline as a result of illness. http://www.lastampa.it/2010/12/21/esteri/lastampa-in-english/opera-legend-maria-callas-didn-t-die-of-a-broken-heart-z9QHOp38idfnQIS50pStjI/pagina.html

  123. Yeah, she's got a husky-ish voice. And 3rd octave isn't bad. I swear, when I was younger I was probably innately in the E4 tessitura. When I answered the phone I'd always be addressed as ma'am LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Ooooh, high maintenance. Me gusta tanto. I love ridin' Hondas lol

  125. She couldn't help but smirk before she tore it up because she knew she was gonna burn it down. Someday I'll be as good of a dancer/singer as her........ someday.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Speaking of jazz/blues, she sang Summertime about a year ago, here's a small excerpt of it, but it's the best quality I could find online. And I agree, her tonality does sound stellar these days, especially since she sounds like she's restraining her "whisper" voice.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I agree, she has this incredibly soulful voice that I was actually shocked to hear when I first heard her sing, but it's gorgeous and I love it. I agree with Crystal, I actually like I Hope, but Nothing's Real is an absolutely amazing song that just blew me away. Shoulder to Shoulder is also a great one.

  135. I was messing around with the EQ settings in my iTunes, and I made this.
The setting makes the sound great, really makes everything more present in the song.
I'd suggest trying it out with headphones. It really does a song more justice than the flat EQ settings, or iTunes presets (not to knock them or anything). I'd be happy to get feedback :)

    ReplyDelete
  136. No she's a girl. Lol. I mean she just has a thick talking voice like NeNe Leaks lol and a bit lower.... But she still screams in the 6th octave. She's not like other friend who just yells completely like a man. That shit is so funny.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Ehh I never really enjoyed this one. It just felt like Mariahs "FU" to all the haters saying she couldn't belt out anymore. She's borderline yelling. :(

  138. I don't understand how one person can use the amount of energy equal to that of a nuclear plant in one song. I look at those dance moves and every little muscle moving, not to mention her perfect singing, and im just like....I would pass out at the first booty shake.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I finally learned the secrets to this song.... Those half step increases used to defeat me because of me attempting to lighten my voice to sing in the mask but I've been learning to accept the fact that I'm no light lyric and certainly no coloratura LOL. So the key to singing this song if you have a weighty voice is knowing how to sing in the mask, how to phrase, and having the dexterity to jump into head voice at times. Beyonce is a smart girl... She knows when she's phrasing at E5, there's no point in belting out those tight "E" vowels so jumping into head voice is key to longevity and quality of the belted notes. I'm not really impressed by her ability to navigate a song with such precision and agility. I'm more so impressed by her ability to navigate a song with such precision and agility while singing with grit. Not just any type of grit but healthy laryngeal distortion. This also means I seriously need to see this tour in person!

    ReplyDelete
  153. LOL that took a really long time, believe me. i had multiple changes LOL

    ReplyDelete
  154. The only response I will dignify this with is that:

Even if Mariah didn't keep her voice, it doesn't dampen her influence, legacy, impact, or overall greatness. While long-lasting things are greatly appreciable, it is the transient things that, in my opinion, are the most beautiful.

And I'm speaking for myself mainly here (though I'm sure some others will agree), but I've never been as impressed with Celine as I was by Mariah.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Definitely, did you check the link i gave?

    ReplyDelete
  156. I did. Mariah doesn't sound as good as she used to, but to be honest few do. She's still phenomenal, and not slumming it with some other, more impaired divas I could name,

    ReplyDelete
  157. Primo Uomo Assoluto25 March 2014 at 02:16

well, you are enhancing 8k which would give the sound brightness but also enhance sibilance and make some sounds rather brittle. You brought down 1k which is a frequency associated with the pinched-nasality, but there tends to be a lot of instruments that use that for the snap of the sound. You brought up 125 hz which is low, but not too low, just enough for body.

    ReplyDelete
  158. fine she sounds good but she is still basic in my ears next to mariah and mimi is so much more hotter LOL

    ReplyDelete
  160. i have really moved on from the past where she sounded beyond great. i accept mariah for how she sounds today and i think, the recording i linked sounded good. Musically wise im a bit skeptic, her songs doesn't give much impact anymore but im still hoping. :))

    ReplyDelete
  161. Primo Uomo Assoluto25 March 2014 at 02:22

Callas herself said her vocal cords where intact, what was suffering was her breathe support. While those who knew her well say her voice was intact, and what she suffered was her self-confidence due to all the psychological abuse she got from Onasis. She would not even practice her scales around him, as he would say "Oh, here we go again, someone's torturing the cat". He must have a really good dick for her to stay with him.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Well, never let it be said that I never corrected myself. I'll retract the Callas statement. Still, my point was that every voice is different and should not be held to the same standard.

And wow, that humor was a little crude. Just an observation.

    ReplyDelete
  163. She's past that stage in her career where she needs to make an impact, all she really needs to do now is produce music of a certain caliber. Which she is failing at doing, but at least she's still trying.

    ReplyDelete
  164. "he attempts to use it to discredit Celine. ;-)"

    http://i.imgur.com/X0biu.gif

    ReplyDelete
  165. This song and 'Stay the Night' yeah. Although the latter does sort of transcend the poor vocal due to more redeeming qualities :P

    ReplyDelete
  166. Why would Céline want to sing like Mariah?
It's Mariah trademark to do runs everywhere, and whispery notes. If you think Céline can't do that then you are wrong, she can do some insane vocal runs, but she prefers to don't do them, what's the matter if she doesn't like playing with songs like Mariah does?, also I get so bored of Mariah's style, It's all about music taste. Barbra Streisand doesn't sing like Mariah and yet her technique and voice are superior.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Mariah ruined her legacy with her arrogant attitude, and dressing like a whore. I'm sorry but the Mariah you're talking about died in 1998.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Slut shaming and criticizing someone else's personality all in one post. You must be god to make an assessment like that.

Sorry but no. All that you listed are actually facets of her legacy. Her "arrogant attitude" is not dissimilar to that of many others (Christina, Madonna, etc.) and neither is her dress. While I won't say she was the progenitor of such trends, she can certainly say she was one of the many who contributed to them.

Also, I take some mild umbrage to your assessment that dressing the way she does is bad. Mariah's style of dress does not represent "whoring" as you so crudely put it, but rather sexual and professional liberation. She did this because Mottola had tried to control her image, and this was her way of breaking free.

Her personality can be interpreted in a variety of ways, including overcompensation, self-parody, and projection of a certain image. In any case, she is simply acting the way she wants to, which is always a good thing, and one of the more positive aspects of her legacy.

Lastly, Mariah was acting 'arrogant' and 'dressing like a whore' LONG before 1998. That statement betrayed your ignorance regarding Mariah Carey, her career, and her legacy.

    ReplyDelete
  169. You're finding challenges where they don't exist,

Josh was merely stating his opinion.

In any case, if we're going to have this discussion, all of these singers borrowed heavily from one another and had similar sounds (in the 90's). Mariah's voice at the time was simply more compatible than Celine's was to the sound.

    ReplyDelete
  170. It's the same as always
    I'm Céline Fan
    You're Mariah Fan.
    Let's not fight anymore.
    Mariah was great.
    Céline is still great.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I'm just trying to be fair, it seems like everyone here licks Mariah's boots, like if she was the resurrection of Giuseppe Verdi , and guess what, she's not. She's an amazing vocalist, an OK songwriter , and a bad live performer.

    ReplyDelete
  172. You're trying to end the argument on a positive note for your bias: that is fine.

You're trying to do so at the cost of my bias: not so fine.

If you want to degenerate into this sort of basic conversation, then by all means.

Celine shrieks nasally with a thin, screechy voice (that, make no mistake, has also aged and declined.)
    Mariah whistles.
    /discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  173. She was an adequate live performer in her heyday. More than adequate.

Nobody is acting like Mariah is amazing. We're simply not trying to deny her strengths, which you seem to be doing.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Mariah goes off key and has no breath support.
Watch AIWFCIY 2013 performance without dubbing.
    Watch Céline's bathroom singing.
    /thread.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Mariah has bad breath support because she wears corsets. Which you would be able to note if you had basic observational skills.
What's Celine's excuse for having a thin, screechy voice?

    ReplyDelete
  176. Then why would someone like to see her performing live?
She doesn't care about her voice, she doesn't dance ,she only stands singing horrible.
Oh and Céline, she might have a thin screechy voice, but guess what, with that kind of voice she was able to outsell Mariah , and yet most people put her on Mariah's level, or even above.
Also she's a kind person, a better performer, and she's a worldwide superstar.

    ReplyDelete
  177. I'm not denying her SUPERB TALENT that everyone on earth would wish to have. She has her flaws like Céline does, like Whitney did.
Both Céline and Mariah are two of the most talented and recognized singers on history .

    ReplyDelete
  178. Uh, I've only met a handful of people who rate Celine above Mariah.

TBH, in my age group, Celine's legacy is pretty much limited to "My Heart Will Go On".

Lastly you may wanna check those sales numbers, because they're highly disputed pretty much everywhere, especially cause many copies of Mariah's debut album weren't counted by soundscan.

    ReplyDelete
  179. LOL Obviously you are hanging with the wrong crowd. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  180. I agree on the way she dresses having nothing to do with her vocal legacy. But I think the "arrogance" unfortunately did translate to her on the one hand caring to much about showing off to such an extent that she prefers to fake what she can't really deliver anymore as well as her not taking care of her instrument the way a professional singer should. And those two aspects DO go to diminishing her legacy in my eyes.

And btw one's age does not excuse one from not knowing more than My Love Will Go On when it comes to Celine. (But then, I think you know that and were just trying to get one over on NotHatingBut. ;-) )

    ReplyDelete
  181. You forget you know who! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  182. That's because you are that gay guy easily bedazzled by "glamour" ;-D

    ReplyDelete
  183. I can't really see how it would affect her legacy as a person, but it does indeed impact hers as a singer.

As for Celine... I wasn't trying to excuse my friends, but just trying to show that Celine, for all her talents and abilities (and contrary to what I've been saying, I do enjoy some Celine) hasn't resonated with the new generation as well as Mariah has, and that her legacy was, for us, less visible,

    ReplyDelete
  184. Yeah, my classmates kinda epitomize 'cultural ignorance'. I'd venture to say they know more about Korean culture than American.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Yes, I meant her musical legacy.

I wasn't kidding completely I think it is mostly gay guys of this generation who still cling to Mariah. I bet most teens aren't into either Celine or Mariah.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Most aren't. I'm surrounded by Kpop stans, which is disheartening.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Korean culture or what Koreans know about western pop music? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  188. LOL I can totally see how that would be disheartening to say the least.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Truthfully I just arranged things to a sound that I preferred.

For me, this setting works well. I'm not a sound engineer like yourself, I just toyed around with things that I have a vague understanding of.

  190. tone-wise, i find celine basic. i mimick celine sometimes and it is so funny. i am very aware that celine is better than mariah today and i have no doubts on celine's vocal ability. The thing is, i was never truly captured by celine's tone and musicianship and yes barbra is incomparable

    ReplyDelete
