It's time to stir the pot again! I only realised today how successful the Demi Lovato Vs. Ariana Grande post had been, so I thought, "Hey, let's try again with two new divas".
Today's battle centers around two peers who, though having differing voices, styles and techniques, get compared an awful lot. This is perhaps understandable when you consider both are of the same generation. However, the comparisons are further fueled- in my opinion- by Beyonce fans who feel slightly aggrieved that Aguilera- aka "The Voice of a Generation"- often gets labelled a vocalist, while Bey is referred to as an "entertainer".
My stance on this has been made before, but I'll say it again: Christina has the better NATURAL voice with an AWFUL technique, but Beyonce's training and own technique has created an instrument that is near enough flawless in its capabilities. Of course that's not to say she was born with a crumby voice, but more so that she's improved on her natural voice a hundred fold with dedication and determination.
But what do you guys think? Take a watch of the videos below and let me who you think is the better singer. Don't forget to leave your reasons why, too!
(To help those undecided come to a resolution, take a read of their vocal profiles [ Beyonce's profile / Christina Aguilera's profile].)
Thoughts?
How long can people make excuses for Christina? Beyonce beats her in every category other than range, where Christina has a (strained) whistle register. Bey has greater versatility and stamina, cleaner runs, richer and healthier belting, the best vibrato in the game, a fuller lower range, a prettier head voice (see 1+1 live) etc. I'm not saying Christina doesn't have a great voice- she does, and she obviously has natural talent but it's marred such poor technique. Also, can we stop putting Bey under the 'worked hard with what she has' umbrella; it seems to shame the concept of working on your craft, and also undermines the fact she has a natural gift.
ReplyDeleteBeyonce definitely has a natural gift, but if you compare her current voice to that of earlier in her career the improvement has been immense. That bucks a trend for many a popular singer.
ReplyDeleteAll I want to say is that this post is gonna be like http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view2/1474222/atomic-bomb-o.gif And that I'm totally gonna refrain from commenting on it unless I have an intelligent, funny comment to add. Sooooooo... http://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img9/3301/1h6.gif
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, but I also think that also has a lot to do with the vocal choices she makes nowadays. When she started out she used a lot more melisma and longer runs. Nowadays, as her musical style has changed, she sings in a much more open style, using more belts, more of the lower range, more of the head voice etc.
ReplyDeleteLOL DD haven't you done this before? and Im not ready for a stan war because i ain't stanning on one of these ladies. But I think i'll enjoy watching the war
ReplyDeletehttp://i.imgur.com/5s4kkZ1.gif
I have, with the song "@Last". But every Bey/ Christina post has been at the request of someone else, so thought I'd just ask the question of who was best outright! I'm sure it'll all be very civil....
ReplyDeleteLOL "civil"
ReplyDeleteps: sorry for reusing, im so addicted to this gif
http://i.perezhilton.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/rihanna-laughing-at-iheartradio-music-awards-ariana-grande.gif
I seem to remember a post on which of those two is the better singer before as well.
ReplyDeleteYou should do one in response to that recent comment on the Taylor profile and ask "Taylor Swift and Karen Carpenter" are they really equally "equipped" singers.
LOL or britney vs kesha
ReplyDeleteLOL Wouldn't interest me as I hardly know either's work.
ReplyDeleteOnly thing I can say on Britney is the unrelated to singing sentiment that I hope has made a full recovery. I felt sorry for her.
I mean don't get me wrong Aggy DEFINITELY had her moments, but come on, is this really even a question anymore? http://24.media.tumblr.com/0a18bee572caa27edaa0d11615e6050b/tumblr_n5ru8wzWm61rrcahvo2_r1_250.gif
ReplyDeleteLOL I am sure it will all be extremely civil until the first Christina fan jumps in and/or primo sees this post.
ReplyDeleteHere, allow me to demonstrate! ;-D
...I think Christina is the better singer hands down.
No amount of perfect technique and endless bland boring music can, for me, outweigh the supposedly awful technique yet at least a couple of truly outstanding performances.
Because, to me, ultimately, when it comes to singing (or any art)...I want to be wowed emotionally. Not intellectually or theoretically.
LOL what i meant is that who's better in autotune but i was being vague, my bad.
ReplyDeletextina. NO. QUESTIONS.
ReplyDeleteYou should actually check out some of Ke$ha's acoustic performances, she has quite a lovely voice! As for Britney her voice as a child was pretty amazing, her lobotomy must have affected her vocal chords tho :(
ReplyDeleteI think that as of 2014 Beyonce beats Christina hands down. Christina has shouted, screamed and bellowed throughout almost every live performance which has caused a lot of damage on her voice ( Lotus performances). Whereas Beyonce has clearly worked on her voice in order to use it correctly and effectively to suit the song. This is why Beyonce can still give us great performances vocally. Beyonce is an entertainer yes but she is also a VOCALIST.
ReplyDeleteThen please, never again claim you even try to go by logic. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'd argue that Beyonce's range is of greater quality than Christina's. 3 octaves of connected, seamless voice fully supported at both extremes with agility and correct intonation throughout beats 4 octaves of foggy low notes, 5 decent notes in the middle low, screamed upper middle and disconnected airy falsetto. Christina has huge gaping holes in her voice, Beyoncé doesn't. The end.
ReplyDeleteFinally we can agree on something! Btw your pic is serving Maleficent realness, love it!
ReplyDeletePersonally I think Beyonce, she to me has wowed me both vocally and emotionally where Christina seems to let me down both ways
ReplyDeleteLOL me too im jelly of the pic haha. im so excited though, in just 3 days il get to see maleficent and probably do a review
ReplyDeleteHere is the thing, Christina always made sure people called her a "vocalist", and in many interviews she said so herself "I'm not just a singer, I'm a vocalist" She even went on to say (referring to other female artists, especially Beyoncé as implied in the interview) "There are your artists and there are your entertainers. I am a real artists, and she, well...". But by calling herself a vocalist that immediately implies technical proficiency and virtuosity. Which Christina just never bothered to develop.
ReplyDeleteJudging them both objectively, only by their vocal merit, Beyoncé is by far the better vocalist.
Christina started with a lovely instrument, perhaps a light-lyric soprano voice in her early youth, but her manufactured sound and her disregard for healthy singing not only got on the way of her singing, it also damaged it. Her voice developed into an alto voice (where her singing range is comfortable) with fragmented pieces of a voice never truly developed.
Beyoncé, on the other hand, started with a rather ordinary instrument that was unsupported and lacked color variety, but with time she kept working at it and developed it. The color got richer and more vibrant, the support and resonance became secure, the flexibility became well controlled, the registers became unified and seamless.
Proof of Beyoncé's superiority as a vocalist can be found in songs like "I care" and "Love on top". Her coloratura singing in "I care" shows control, range and musicianship. And the way she climbs the scales in "Love on top" shows a voice that is even and well supported throughout 2.5 octaves.
In the end a fine instrument played by an amateur might make pretty sounds but it will not be music and certainly not art. On the other hand, a $30 toy keyboard played by seasoned musician would still show the greatness behind it.
ok...so im not gonna even touch the voice thing with a barge pole because i have already upset Christina fans on here before BUT i do think the main difference between them is legacy and future, right now Beyonce has a HUGE following and in 10 years i can see her having a residency at las vegas like cher had or britney ....people will pay to see her, hell id pay to see her and i haven't bought a single album by her (i have to really really like an album to own it) but Christina im sorry bae but i cant see you having that and i think you have an incredible voice but something is missing. if i had to mention voice id say Beyonce will keep her more intact than Christina will by the end of their career, Beyonce isnt hitting notes that will be completely impossible to reach in a decade, for now beyonce slays.

And since we're on this Christina topic, I just wanted to post this video I accidentaly found.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX9dHsGQvQU
I find it so funny I've been replaying it for hours lol
LMAO the skit was beyond hilarious. i would have never thought it was about spider hahaha
ReplyDeleteJust that episode, nay just that sketch made up for all the missteps of the season. Beyond hilarious is right!
ReplyDeletePosts like this aggravate me damn... Makes me wanna Stan my ass off!!!! I'm not going to though... I will say I've never been a fan of Christina's timbre and believe both her voice and artistry are terribly over hyped while Beyonce, a woman hardwired for the stage witha truly refined instrument can't be recognized as a vocalist... I tried to do half of the vocal dynamics Beyonce does... mezza de voce, no go, trilling diminuendos, iffy, coloratura flourished across more than one register, only when I'm bouncing up and down and my voice is already wbbling, phenomenal volume control, hell no I just holler, singing in half voice, let's get real, no I can't!!!! Lol.... I wish Beyonce got her recognition as a vocalist....like in any way or format....even through world wide brutality!!!!! Everyone needs to know!!!! #stanunleashed
ReplyDeleteAwwww you like it? :D I wanted to be a male Maleficent for Halloween last year, but it was on a Thursday so I didn't know if to go out the weekend before or after, and because of school I didn't end up doing anything...but I still wanted to dress up and take a pic :)
ReplyDeleteI know! I love it :) I'm a HUGE Maleficent fan :) she's my role model in life :P I've bought the new doll that came out, and 2 T-Shirts :P
ReplyDeletei agree the whole season was somehow disappointing. i really miss kristen wiig
ReplyDeleteI agree, the season definitely had moments of greatness, over all however...
ReplyDeleteThe last few episodes were really great though so I have hope the show has re-found it's footing. She is truly an all star talent that is sorely missed!
I agree, I think Christina is very one-expression, very exaggerated
ReplyDeleteThese are two thingies I bought this week :)
ReplyDeleteOmg when I was little I used to wrap blankets around me like a cape/shawl, put little claw nails on my fingers, carry around a broom as my sceptre and put two miniature traffic cones over two buns on my head. I was the baddest bitch you have ever seen.

A friend of mine made this photoshop for me for my anniversary this year
ReplyDelete(Because I don't have birthdays, I have anniversaries). I love it :P
I'm so excited about the movie :D I love Maleficent and I love Angelina :)
Another friend of mine is a HUGE fan of Princess Aurora, and I always look for Disney Princess Aurora things for him, I'm glad lots of cute accessories have come out recently.
hahahaha omg. Priceless
ReplyDeleteI must add...most of her fans think Christina is so "soulful" with her runs and her growling, but I think her style is not soul at all, but "minstrel", she is doing the musical equivalent of black face, a racist, ugly parody of what she thinks black female singers sound like. It is a very exaggerated caricature. I shared this opinion with a well known voice coach with a big following on YouTube and she agreed with me.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter what you meant, I simply can't speak on anything between the two because I don't know because I don't care for either. I therefor couldn't agree with your suggestion because it would be a thread supremely uninteresting to me. :-)
ReplyDeleteGet it through your head already...I go by logic in argument, I go by emotion when it comes to taste.
ReplyDeleteFact that you insist on mixing up the two statements is not my fault but on your own shoulders. But it does prove that I am the one going by logic in argument and you...are not. Thanks. :-)
No, don't even try. You already showed you don't judge things logically but by emotion. Log out, pack up and go home, your argument is done. One more of your hypocrisies.
ReplyDeleteI honestly cannot pick between the two because I love them so much for different reasons.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Britney really uses auto-tune as such, she doesn't have a big voice or much of a range but she sings pretty decently in tune in the studio. Ke$ha uses it a lot for effect, maybe for its intended pitch correction too, I don't know, but she can also sing ok.
ReplyDeletePlease! Don't call "racism" as farfetched as that. The "racism" card is being thrown around unsubstantiated enough already as it is.
ReplyDeleteBut hey, good for you that you found someone on youtube who agrees with you. Congrats! I am sure few could make that clai....oh hang on.....
HAHAHAHAHA. would the Aggy stan who voted for her upwards of 300 times please take your ass to the comment section so I can give you a smack down. http://24.media.tumblr.com/99147a84ffc62d98b93bab6e58dcc4b7/tumblr_n5yjf10ED61tqakyso6_r2_250.gif

ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't engage on arguments with polycephalic entities.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I gotta say is that she has the most devoted, most fanatical worshippers of any fanbase I've ever seen, it's very scary. Even Sia has said Christina could shit on a jar and sell it on eBay and her stans would spend their life-savings on it.
ReplyDeleteThe Beyhive is obsessed too, but never to that level, at least I've never encountered that.
The Beyhive ends careers, Xtina's can't even resuscitate hers :'(
ReplyDeleteTaking care of your instrument is vital for one to endure the harsh conditions of success and the Entertainment industry. However, we technical peeps often look over "real singing" and go straight to the technique and technicalities. Christina's got soul: something many artists lack. Beyonce, however, pawns Christina in the technical department of singing. Whether it's singing or talking, as long as you sing with soul and conviction, you're an A-lister in my book. That's not to say many will agree, it's my opinion. All in all, both woman are great and for one to say the other is better would be an insult. Love what you have because you never know when they'll be gone.
ReplyDeleteOMG THOSE 300 VOTES FOR XTINA!!! WHERE DID THOSE COME FROM???????????????
ReplyDeleteMaybe people who finally can express their opinion without being called all kinds of names and having to endure personal attack completely unrelated to the subject? ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell, and one is mine of course. :-)
Sweetie, what do your proclivities have to do with anything here? Obviously that comment is not applicable to me. Seeing as you engage in argument with me constantly.
ReplyDeleteLet's discuss your perception of what constitutes logic some more shall we? ;-D
Tbh I find Beyonce more soulful than Christina
ReplyDeleteWell, of course Beyonce' is more soulful than Christina...
ReplyDeletehttp://24.media.tumblr.com/0c2b7cf2451a5422ff9e66957af27b56/tumblr_mtfgynA8kO1sn2bh3o1_500.gif
Objectively speaking, as a vocal artist/musician and in comparison to Christina Aguilera, Beyonce' will forever reign supreme.
ReplyDeletehttp://24.media.tumblr.com/dd6d2334b2d4bc88f002927da4f53b51/tumblr_mwulm2JaXF1rig27xo1_500.gif
I am not versed in vocal pedagogy at all so I'm just gonna side with everyone on that Beyonce has better technique. That being said I do like some of Christinas songs. Aguilera is more interesting to listen to imo. When she isn't straining she sounds beautiful (pun intended). To give Beyonce credit her voice is getting more interesting to listen to ie darker.
ReplyDeleteAlso can we just talk about that "beyism" a religion dedicated to worshipping Beyonce is an actual thing?

Except that Christina stans at the blistering pustule that was LD and that is ALD
ReplyDeletewould take pictures of themselves "praying" to an image of Christina photoshopped as Jesus...
Just google "Godtina", some of those pics are still online.
Well, that's not a new thing. I mean, yeah, Christina does have a incredibly fierce stanbase, but that thing has been done with many other artists like Lana del Rey and Conchita Wurst (although this last one was more to make fun of him/her rather than to worship him/her)
ReplyDeleteUgh, plebs who think that subtlety is inelegant and not soulful and shouting like a 3-year old baby is emotive and soulful should stop on sucking their pacifiers, wipe off the milk on their lips and go out of their cribs with their own two legs.
ReplyDeleteDamn, people have low standards/low tastes. These are prolly the same people who glorify and romanticise suicide on Tumblr by saying: "i think suicidal people are just angels that want to go home."
Such a black and white, unartistic, unimaginative take on musicianship like someone who considers a well-drawn, identical-to-the-nearest stroke replica to be of work of art.
train your artistic senses, pls. kthxbai.
lol funny how people who don't suffer racism refuse to put this argument of racism into account.
ReplyDeletei totally agree with you on the last sentence.
This doesn't surprise me either. The reason I made this post was because some chick literally sacrificed herself to beyonce.
ReplyDeleteps: beyonce's run with dangerously in love, followed by xtina's run of belts and falsetto--i almost spewed on my water.
ReplyDeleteI dont understand the GIF's purpose but yea I agree
ReplyDeleteThat was fake? I saw it on genuine newsites.
ReplyDeleteIn my observation of higher caliber artist, almost all stanbase are fierce.
ReplyDeleteLOL no dear people are not "being scrutinised" by being called names.
ReplyDeleteI think you should refrain from responding to comments posted in languages you haven't mastered sufficiently.
you consider a website with an article titled 'Solange in Fist Fight With Jay-Z After Hair Insults' to be 'genuine' (reliable is the word)?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thenewsnerd.com/local/bey-worshipper-found-dead/
Really (and post a link so that others can ascertain the newsites' validity)?
I'd say that is why they are called stans rather than fans.
ReplyDeleteOh look, the dude who loves to call me a "hypocrite" (and who confuses him doing so repeatedly, for proof of that misguided lie) engaged in editing a comment after it was responded to ....AGAIN!
ReplyDeletelol, i'm actually on a scholarship for my writing in English in one of the best unis for English studies and humanities worldwide, and I have a photo to prove this.
ReplyDeleteget your head out of your ass :D. you're the only person that understands your own logic.
and oh etymologically, scrutiny means 'inspecting something in the rubbish', and the negative connotation still is prevalent today.
Maybe, before arguing with your pseudo-facts, which you hold dear as facts, you should look at your arguments, first.
...:)
Good for you! You found the definition of the word in a dictionary. AND you managed to copy and paste.
ReplyDeleteGold star for you!
Now that you found a dictionary online and mastered that skill of copy/paste...you can sent the link to your buddy Jules. He is in dire need of some tutoring.
And if you really want to entertain a select group of people as you like to lie about, the two of you should have a little public discussion on the subjects "logic" and "subtlety".
That should bring some peals of laughter to a few readers.
or maybe he is copy-pasting to just show how delusive your perception of reality is :). all your arguments are non-arguments, and don't hold water with anything, at all.
ReplyDeleteI mean, you're not even arguing about the definition, here, just his method of showing his argument.
and i don't even know this guy, lol.
ure funni.
There's not much to be said here tbh... I'm surprised at the results of the votes, but I'm glad at least the comments hold sanity. Beyonce is the better vocalist, if not, currently the best vocalists I can personally think of. It's scary how perfect her vocal abilities are.. she has resonance, she's a mezzo and yet sings up where most sopranos strain their asses off. She has a very VERY well supported and projected lower register, she has a beautifully developed head voice, not falsetto. She has stamina, control, connected registers with good agility and intonation, she has good placement, she can control her voice to add any onsets and any kind of effects she wants. Christina's voice is gorgeous, but she has no control of it whatsoever. She's had a few supported moments in some C#5's and below, very occasional resonance and support. Most of the time she's all in her throat trynna sound big, shoves her larynx up to hit higher notes, her runs are out place, she's pitchy, goes flat cuz she can't handle the higher notes, has a falsetto, breathy unsupported lower notes. She has a beautiful voice and I love her songs, but she can't be considered a good vocalist with the careless way she treats her instrument. She has no control over her effects, because they're the only way she can hit her notes, without them she can't really hit the notes she's acclaimed voice. I'm not sure of her voice type, but come on Beyonce can support down to C3/B2 and resonate all the way up to her G#5, her highest note and she's still able to keep it good. Head voice up to like Eb6/D6 with good production, like come on, it's not a question of who's the best vocalists, it's clearly Beyonce. Christina just has a gorgeous tone which people mistake for vocal ability.
ReplyDeletethose voting numbers though....https://31.media.tumblr.com/d128297a2c5e9fe48e2c541ebe408224/tumblr_n2alqu8raF1rfduvxo1_500.gif
ReplyDeletePersonally, as the one who taught Maria Callas how to sing, who weaned Jewel as a babe, and even taught Barack Obama how to play basketball I have no doubt that Beyonce is the better singer and makes better music. Bey is so soulful (black), is such a hard worker (dances well), and makes such great music (shows tits and ass) that there can be no realistic dispute about her vocal abilities. Heck, Beyonce even sang to a group of orphans in Singapore! Not even my beloved Maria had the vocal ability to do that. If there is one significant knock on Beyonce it's that she--unlike Taylor Swift--has never crashed a fan's wedding party to takes selfies. That's inexcusable and demonstrates a real weakness in Bey's vocal repertoire. Because of this I admit that when it came to my actual vote I put in a nod to Christina. Not, mind you, because I think that Christina is a better singer--she's clearly not. But because I just couldn't vote for an artist who is weaker than Taylor Swift in even one area of vocal ability. I am sure that many others among the public feel the same way I do which is why the voting results show that 90% of people are voting for Christina. She's not the better singer--we all know it--but Bey just isn't taking enough selfies.
ReplyDelete703 for Christina? :O
ReplyDeleteThis is kind of "duh." Everything Beyonce does seems like a feat of great technique on tours. Aside from Fabian, I don't know of many females that can will their mives to be as heady or chesty as they want. Furthermore, she never has many bad moments because she supports her voice in a manner that alludes to her training.
ReplyDeleteHowever, even though unforced, her tone is banal. If not in a virtuosic display, it's easy to forget her because of her tone. X does not have this problem as much. She remains identifiable, even though contrived. Her music is more daring and interesting overall, but BEYONCE tracks give B some edge that she hasn't had--not just sexiness--but varying her vocals and removing the excessive runs that can sometimes ruin her technically apt performances (see "siiIIIiIIilllEEnnnNEnnnNTnnnTNnnNnnnnnn NnNNNnT NiiIIIIghhHHhhHT" with motion sickness pills on hand).
mives = mixes.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what it is about Christina, when her voice sounds clean it is astounding. Beyonces voice to me always sounds clean and clinical. No unique je he sais quoi.
ReplyDeleteThat is seriously all types of slay. Would be better as a pic if we could get the whole of the horns.
ReplyDeletewell i think someone is using autobots cough*xtinastans*cough
ReplyDeleteI have to say, being on a site with "stan wars" that this isn't very true. Perhaps it is for the extremist youtubers, but the most dedicated "despite whatever" fanbase now belongs to Britney. No singing, no personality in interviews, dancing off-beat, and Brit fans still claim she's slaying everything, including Beyonce's & P!nk's routines. It's sad because 40-something JLo >>>
ReplyDeleteI don't even know why you bother arguing with this 50+ year old Lesbian. She clearly doesn't have a life which is why she spends most of her time on a blog comprised of teenagers!!! When is she never here? Please ignore her and move along... LMFAO. :D
ReplyDeleteThe one who doesn't need a compass just to find the center of pitch.
ReplyDeleteTo me, Christina had the better natural voice. Beyoncé trained the shit out of hers, but Christina started off with something better.
ReplyDeleteI should add, I can't see the IP of people who vote- it's anon- BUT this post ain't even had 800 hits yet and christina already has 800 plus votes (as of now).....y'all can do the assuming on what's going on with that....
ReplyDeleteDidn't mean to aggravate...or did. I can't remember. still, just look at these https://24.media.tumblr.com/b9a329fcb08befea0945685f4454bcbe/tumblr_n63dcvMnOR1ttjwiao1_500.gif https://31.media.tumblr.com/c5334ee34d3a7a8a2cc434aa915ed84b/tumblr_n63xrabtl21sp53yeo1_400.gif https://24.media.tumblr.com/9fdf847b0f2e24ecdf84ccdab6500f85/tumblr_n3yxr5raew1rwnxnho2_400.gif Boy oh boy do I hope it wasn't you whose computer blows up when trying to process Gifs...lol
ReplyDeleteSo the gist of your comment was... Christina has the more unique voice.
ReplyDeletewas your clip in the chatbox that inspired the post! you should feel proud...or ashamed. You choose.
ReplyDeleteYes, comparatively, Beyonce has a boring, uninteresting voice. I'd say her voice is as inoffensive as Dido's, but that would be an insult to the goddess that is Dido.
ReplyDeleteerm..... https://31.media.tumblr.com/2e4792b94ef273ec11c57f86e1680251/tumblr_mxgnf6kbDZ1slibiio1_400.gif
ReplyDeleteYeah, her technique is exceptional as is what she can do with her voice. The voice itself though is common and unimpressive.
ReplyDeleteIn a way, from my reading, voice registration is like car gears. If you rev your engine on a low gear, you're going to get a quick jolt and a lot of sound. However, this is largely because a higher gear (register) should eventually be selected.
ReplyDeleteSooner or later, the car won't go as fast on this gear and stammer; analogously, the voice won't do much in this region. Refusing gear changes overworks that gear (let's say "chest voice") leading to unpreditable changes in cadence and quality (vocal agility and clarity).
X loves the big jolt and sound of pushing that "lower gear". It's an electryifying sound, really. It sounds big, bold, and is ultimately what singers try to approach when they are singing in mixes, or "higher gears." However, the wear of this choice shows even to the untrained ear. She has omitted key phrases in songs that require higher belting, such as "The Voice Within" and "Fighter" bridges.
So I think X trades the agility and robustness of her voice for force, pushing that gear up to the max and keeping it there. But after years of doing this, she is now sort of restricted to a range of a high tenor in terms of a predictable 5th octave belt, even for a breif visit.
But I tend to like it anyway. It "sounds" better to me than Beyonce's voice because the latter gets frail as she ascends "gears." But a car with proper gear changes is just going to perform better and more reliably, as does vocal registration.
lol your stan comments are funny.
ReplyDeletekeep up the material!
this!
ReplyDeleteLOL your unsupported statements are funny.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the material! And also try to check for capitalization!
Technically - obviously Beyonce. And for me personally - also Beyonce. But Christina has songs where how she sings touches me more than Beyonce ever have, like Oh Mother. They're both talented, and obviously a less technically good singer can touch you more than someone better, and vice versa, it's a subjective thing who's the better singer to your ears. But technically Beyonce is so much better.
ReplyDeleteAguilera can't sing in whistle I think she accessed it only once in a live performance, she always push her falsetto, Xtina had the best voice but she didn't know how to use it, Beyonce has an amazing technique but it's boring. I don't like both.
ReplyDelete:3. i never said that stanning is bad--just that you don't even bother to veil it yourself.
ReplyDelete(but really more octaves+better tone=better singer?)
totally unsupported claims.
...:D
Kablerp
ReplyDeleteWell, range is something I don't care much about unless it is something utterly phenomenal. For women, I care about F3 and below to about F5 because that is the most remarkable part of the voice and to put a label on, the most versatile. I tend not to care for HV or Falsetto, only for belting, middles and lows. As far as the common place voice thing, I wish people would give that a rest and just say Beyonce's timbre is not of my liking. I find nothing common about her voice as a whole and I'm not one to simply be impressed by a voice. I either like it or I don't. I won't go into content because I never gave Christina's music a chance so my judgement there would be highly biased LOL #stancontained
ReplyDeleteIf you did a THOROUGH check throughout the site... You will find I pretty much despise Christina.
ReplyDeleteFact is, I despise Beyonce more, so this is the lesser of two evils.
That does not detract from my arguments, which are factually based.
I never said she was the better singer... I said she had the better voice. And when the voice has better tone and range... it is indeed better. Beyonce, by virtue of her technique, is the undisputed better singer.
"Tone" is entirely subjective
ReplyDeleteRange....well, yes, but a connected range of 3 octaves is worth more than a disconnected and uncontrolled 4 or 5 octaves.
Basically, you just admitted to being narrowminded and making assessments based on aspects of a whole as opposed to the whole itself. You did not support your position whatsoever...
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't find Beyonce's timbre exceptional... especially after Serendipity posted a video with another girl with the exact same timbre.
But for listening value? What's more interesting, a song with uncontrolled highs and lows or a song that is impeccable but limited to about 2 octaves? Yes, connectedness, from a technical standpoint, is valuable. This isn't necessarily so for the general listener.
ReplyDeleteAs for tone.. it would be subjective, yes, but I've heard others with strikingly similar tones as Beyonce.
The thing with Britney is that...she has something magical about her. I saw her "Femme Fatale" concert and the woman doesn't sing live and barely moves, yet somehow kept my attention.
ReplyDeleteNo, I simply know you are not willing to learn or grow or change your opinion from an argument, you like to argue for the sake of arguing and probably out of boredom. That's why I am not interested in having any arguments with you, because it is the equivalent of trying to discuss Sufi poetry with a rabid dog.
ReplyDeletelol, you take everything too seriously. i was half-joking with the stanning, but your comment is eh.
ReplyDeleteoops, yeah, sorry, i meant better voice.
but even saying that xtina has a better voice implies that beyonce's voice isn't inherently good, or is 'average' at best.
besides that, how exactly can you compare one's voice to someone else? like beauty, it's a personal taste.
yeah, i mean, japanese singers may perceive differently what a 'better' tone is than, say, an anglophone would.
what is a better voice when it comes to 'guttural' singing, anyways?
personally, i think that a voice is good if the singer knows how to handle it well, manipulating it with the knowledge of its limitations.
a shrieking siren with a beautiful voice can't lure men in the same way a lyrical siren with a voice of 'undistinguishable' colour can.
3 octaves of connected range is average? 0_o
ReplyDeleteFor the final point, I can say the same for a large number of singers about Christina, but I've heard maybe 1 or 2 singers that sound like Beyonce. In fact, just the other night at a wedding I attended, there was a little girl singing who sounded just like Christina.
ReplyDeleteHer voice is hardly something one of a kind.
My comment that Christina's tone is better is simply based on the fact that it is more unique, not because of some ethnocentric standard. For instance, Kerr shares the same timbre within Beyonce: http://youtu.be/o3225XnV37E
ReplyDeleteWhat your describing is the ability of the singer based on technique, not based on the voice's natural capability. We're talking about different subjects.
In that pic you can see the whole headpiece, no? Or is it not showing up? :/
ReplyDeleteBy all means do so. I'm always willing to retract my statements when disproved.
ReplyDelete"My comment that Christina's tone is better is simply based on the fact that it is more unique, not because of some ethnocentric standard."
ReplyDeleterevise that comment for a bit, because the contradiction is separated by that nasty comma.
and no. singing requires more than maintaining a rhythm, and a voice is defined as to how it is projected. if you define and compare two voices vocalising the same head note, for example, there wouldn't even be a comparison. either their tones will appear to be very different or extremely identical, so i think that that defining the better voice through the singer's basic proficiency of singing is...justifiable. because to become a better singer, you'd need to have more than the ability to stay on pitch and on rhythm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnIQyAEe7is
i love, xtina, but beyonce would have achieve the same thing if she tried to also 'deepen' her voice (forcing her larynx down, etc...).
and if you're talking about xtina's voice being a rarity, then i'd disagree :(, just because of exposure.
For me, this is what POWER sounds like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0IFs3CJqJg
ReplyDeletesufi poetry is sensational, and you're misaddressing your comment.
ReplyDeleteYes...I admitted to it...I simply don't care for female HV... Even if it's ridiculously impressive HV, belts speak to me more. I only brought up my views on range becuase you took it there. What's you point? But anyways, I prefer technicality to screeching, hollering and hooting so...And F3-F5 alone which does happen to consist of the core of a woman's voice (D4-F5), Christina can't even impress me there... Not in technical delivery anyways...I haven't see what she has to offer lyrically but since I don't like about 60% of Beyonce songs I won't be too optimistic about liking Christina's.
ReplyDeleteAs for timbres.... I don't rate timbres...I either like them...or I don't and could care less for "rarity" and stuff of the likes. It's a simple as that. I rate musicianship, virtuosity and control over one's instrument. There are plenty of singers with timbres I don't like but can sing their asses off, to a high technical degree, I mean. And the reason I don't care for timbres is because a singer should be offering more than a pretty timbre...Such as good lyrics and stellar singing...Now I will admit, Beyonce is beyond hit or miss with her lyrics!!!! Shit, the majority of her songs are a lost cause...
But ultimately my point is that, as a "vocalist" Christina doesn't deserve her rep, while Beyonce sits madly underrated... The majority of people I know think she can't sing simply because they don't like her voice LOL. Hell, my grandma didn't think she could sing until she watched her sing "Rather go Blind" on Cadillac Records LOLOL. But I'll cut my grandma some slack...-_- barely... And how people throw the the term vocalist around without the right meaning gets on my nerve. Like, there've (This needs to be a word in the FUCKING DICTIONARY GAHHH!!!) countless times I told my friend that a singer and a vocalist may do the same thing but for two very different reasons... You know that much already.
Onto the other point brought up about rarity of timbre, yeah people can fall for someone's voice if they have that type of timbre that just speaks to people. It's something I acknowledge as very real but doesn't really affect me. Like for example, all my friends go head over heels for Adele but the cringe when they hear Kimbra LOL. Most of my friends hate Janelle Monae's voice but I don't listen to Janelle Monae for her voice... I love that woman's lyrics and artistry and some of the things she can do on a technical front.
I hope I clarified my points because I truly suck at explaining myself... I probably just swerved around all of what we talked about but hey...I tried...
LOL, I mean posts like this make me wanna lose all control and stan HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am more than prepared to get emotionally vested into a very heated argument just to rile up christina fans!!!! Anything for queen Yonce!!!! I'll die stanning!!!!! IDGAF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL JS...
ReplyDeleteA Spanish show that allows artists to imitate other artist's performances. http://www.divadevotee.com/
ReplyDeleteBeyonce one.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTd681k8OCg
where do these posts come from :(. it's like nightmare on elm...o street.
ReplyDeletei wanna like her through her tone, but those missed notes and weird ass runs :(.
No... LOL.... She tried but no... It was only bad due to her terrible english but still....
ReplyDeleteOh,really? *_* http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140305134258/glee/images/f/f5/Chopper_dance.gif
ReplyDeleteYou're saying that uniqueness is ethnocentric? I suppose I could concede that to be the case.
ReplyDeleteThen i will revise my statement: based on the standards I hold, I rate Christina as having the superior instrument. Doubtlessly Beyonce has done more with hers, but I personally feel that, were the two both untrained, Christina would be able to produce superior vocalizations.
I think that stating "were the two both untrained, Christina would be able to produce superior vocalizations" is kind of tricky. I mean, even if Christina has the superior naturalvoice (or if Bey had it), the other girl could have superior natural technique, and, therfore, be able to produce superior vocalizations. Maybe the way you show explain it is "were the two technically perfect singers, Christina would be able to produce superior vocalizations".
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to point this out. Anyway, I agree with you: Christina has naturally a better voice.
I think you kind of slipped up there. 3 octaves is "average" (actually the average is 2 octaves, but I ain't gonna get into that) but 3 CONNECTED octaves is faaaaar from average.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I actually like her vocal stylings more than Beyonce... Thanks for introducing me!!!! It's like Beyonce but better!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to point out... Christina has some amazing lyric-gems, specially in her Stripped album. Just to name a few:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O5ivCQ-JV8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quAFmNvk_Zs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNJDH8D6Gz8
Damn, she does sound like Bey o_______O
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but her growls sound kind of awkward, specially when she's imitating Christina. She's a great singer, though, but if I had to choose a nowadays spanish female singer I'd totally choose Malu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXUzSNg6uI8
ReplyDeleteThey are some fairly nice lyrics!!!!! I actually like the songs!!!! But fuck Christina!!! She ain't important!!!! What's important are these guitar lessons you owe me!!!!! LOL...
ReplyDeleteUnavailable in my country :(
ReplyDeleteDamn it... Well, just look her up in youtube if you want to.
ReplyDeleteYears ago, I would have agreed with many of you and said that Christina is probably better at emoting, but Beyonce has a better technique and much better connection to her instrument. Now, after Bey's newest album, I can finally say that Beyonce is the better singer without any hesitation.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is - we forget: what makes a real singer?
Rule #1: You must know and understand your voice and how to use it.
Without this, you're literally doomed. Christina in her early career picked how she wanted to use her voice and stuck to that, but never bothered to REALLY understand how it worked. So she lost every ounce of ease and agility she once had, becoming more and more difficult for her to sing as the years went by.
Beyonce, on the other hand, couldn't get away with the voice she had, so she worked on it. She focused, and trained, and perfected her voice until it bloomed and boomed with resonance, connection, freedom, and capability. Back in her early 20s, her voice could have been mistaken, but not anymore. That is no longer a banal timbre - that voice is hers alone.
Rule #2: Develop your artistry.
Christina had this from an early age. Even though she takes her vocalisations too far, you have to admit, her artistry is her own. The trouble is, she never developed it or changed it.
Beyonce, I am not sorry to say, was about as interesting as paste on her first two albums, with nothing to show but a bunch of flashy belts and decent hooks. Artistry without control is bad, but the reverse is equally terrible, and she didn't show anything real until I Am...Sasha Fierce. That's when I started believing that she could really be an artist. It got better on 4, and on her latest release, she stripped down her vocals, and let go of the gymnastics, and I was fascinated. The album was unique, minimalist, R&B, soul, electronic - it was wonderful, and you could tell that she poured all of herself into it. Which brings us to
Rule #3: Never stop working at it.
This is what really pushes Beyonce over the top - she has NEVER stopped working on her craft. If you hear her in the Destiny's Child days, it's nearly unbelievable how much BETTER she's become during her career. With Christina, you sit there going "wait...what happened?", because nothing she does has anything new - she goes for new genres but with the same old tricks; she tries to use her voice like she did before, but can't, because her voice is giving up.
This is what makes Beyonce the better singer. She has a brilliant technical grasp, but we knew that. She's developed into her own artist, and that's just wonderful. But most of all, she always strives to be better and even more brilliant than before. And that will always trump natural talent, no matter how much you may have.
I'm sick of hearing the same garbage that seeks always devalue the only reality, Christina Aguilera has a incredible & spectacular voice, The way it handles is just brutal , sometimes I feel sorry for experts looking to find her thousands of "technical defects" and display it as "bad ", it is clear that if this were real, she does not sing . The truth is that whenever you feel like it, with amazing notes mouths shut. Christina has a wonderful voice, his vocal twists and games are more than delicious, simply orgasmic, no other of his generation is able to.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I have to say that I'm also a big fan of Beyoncé and her natural instrument I find beautiful, smooth , very fine and bright, their commitment and dedication has led her to be the only one who can keep up with Xtina .
But certainly in both responses, Aguilera exceeds Queen B '.
Itis also clear , Xtina is not only the best voice that has appeared in the music industry in the past 15 years , it is as though the artist better, more innovative, risk taker and honest with their music.

ReplyDeletehmmm, don't you consider work ethic and a natural grasp of your voice as talents? sometimes, i almost think that B has perfect pitch. great post.
ReplyDeleteThat's true and then you also have to keep in mind that people grow up with Britney. I can milestone childhood with Britney hits.
ReplyDeleteI'll take Xtina fans over Beyhives. Beyhives are creepy.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLkkeetG0to
For some reason Beyonce live doesn't do it for me. I think I expect to feel her songs more live but rarely do. It's like she puts all her passion other parts of her performance like dances and looking #flawless. Christina has that passion live but she's really annoying with her vocals. She just got way to many compliments as a kid and it shows.
ReplyDeleteBetter Singer? Beyonce. Better voice? Christina Aguilera, by EONS. If Christina was able to vocalize things a lot neater she could've have ascended her vocal delivery to astronomical heights. Those heights I'm referring to, in my opinion, are exclusively accessible to very specific singers. Beyonce, despite being as technically sound as she is, still has yet to wow me. And if anyone has the nerve to bring up that STUPID ASS video branding Beyonce as The Voice, save your breath...
ReplyDeleteAlso, of all the threads Diva...this one? lol You just may have opened up a can of worms and welcomed the next cyber WW2, the Stan Edition lol.
ReplyDelete*Gets Popcorn & readies Napalm*
You mean thumbs? AND WHERE"S MY DAMN JAZMINE SULLIVAN VIDEO!!!! YOU GOT 5 MINUTES BEFORE LIFE GETS REAL!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love Malu, though personally Monica Naranjo is my favorite Spanish singer at the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xpJauDBcXs
ReplyDeleteThough Malu's voice is easier to like.
Here https://www.youtube.com/v/gXUzSNg6uI8
ReplyDeleteFor future reference, replace the "watch?v=" with "v/" to watch videos not available in your country or age restricted videos.
Oh great more fapping material for Pyschohomme and his minions. Don't like Xtina, move on. Stop using her and move on.
ReplyDeleteand btw Primo, you have a connected range of 67 octaves and you still sound like a dying rat? what gives?????
ReplyDeleteThose poll results... how?
ReplyDeleteLike, what's the judging criteria? Beyonce craps all over Christina, from a technical stand point.
You are entirely correct, my statements are generally spur-of-the-moment, and not very well thought out.
ReplyDeleteOh my lord! Beyonce's vocal twin!
ReplyDeleteI meant 3 octaves as a whole, disregarding connectedness. That they are connected is a technical feat, but it does not necessarily wow the listener as additional octaves might.
ReplyDeleteI was speaking from a listener's perspective, without regard for technical aspects of the voice.
ReplyDeleteLOL, The URL was already set up as such and...still no workie...LOL. I'm just gonna youtube her.
ReplyDeleteWow! Those voices... eargasm!
ReplyDeleteI never even took the time to look at the performance... :D Guess I put you guys through some torture! :D
ReplyDeleteLMAO. Exactly...
ReplyDeleteAll the technique in the world could not stop him from sounding like a... I don't even want to say it. Just listen to his HORRID Barbra cover on YouTube. It is the definition of LMFAO. But anyway...
Pastora is a pretty nice singer, but she can get a bit shouty at times, for me at least. I'd check out this performance by her, a great performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8J1b62wOao
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, I actually think he sounds pretty good.
ReplyDeletelol, what do people get from bullying the commentators or the singers being discussed? It's just petty and tacky. If you're going to insult someone, make the insults wittier and with more flair.
ReplyDeletethis perpetuates the stereotype that mainstream music fans are just moronic and argumentative.
I think this would be truer if we were to talk of early Whitney. She had amazing notes and did not suffer from being unable to hit numerous high notes in sucessiion live.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with X is that even a novice would ask: why does she seem to have so much trouble with her own songs live? Sometimes her voice completely goes false and breaks.
If this were not the case (i.e. she sang every note but strained), I doubt people would care about the critics arguing against her, as just most did not and still do not with prime Whitney vocals.
She basically is my nick here carnate: the "it" factor. I don't really get it, but then again I love some LDR, and many probably think she sucks live.
ReplyDeletePlease do share the pic. I am truly curious which uni gives out "scholarships" in English to people who don't even know the proper definition and use of the word "scrutinize" .
ReplyDelete"examine or inspect closely and thoroughly."
You .." scrutinize BY being called AS ratched and ghetto". That dear, is an example of poor grammar and lack of understanding the use of "scrutinize"
no, I just see part of the horns and your face. It still works because of the upside down V (forget the name of that Widow's peak?)t
ReplyDeleteLOL and you must be keeping a close eye on me to know that. And then you express your intense "ignoring" me by you just posting sad attempts at insulting someone based on their age and/or sexuality?
ReplyDeletehttp://i352.photobucket.com/albums/r349/reddragon2_photos/tumblr_mr846xMcvx1sniznyo4_500_zps300ab7ea.gif
Are you literally correcting yourself? Is this same person? Why do you have such bad grammar in one comment and then you're correcting yourself as if you were speaking to a different person with perfect grammar in another? This is the definition of pathetic. Is making yourself look intelligent on the internet really this important?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't get the etnocentricism here. There are black women with very distinct tones: Toni Braxton, Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, Lisa Fischer, Janelle Monae, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Nina Simone, Macy Gray (eww but it holds).
ReplyDeleteI think B is mostly recognizable by her incredibly fast runs. Maybe that's why she overdid them when she was breaking out as a solo act.
Are you for real? That is hilarious coming from you dear. And I bet your good buddy primo, who is obviously equally guiltless of such behavior, will support your comment. Though possibly he might want to add a little remark about my "hypocrisy".
ReplyDeleteYou two are a pair alright!
DivaD, you kno damn well this was gon' be a hot mess and love it don't u? #hitPost
ReplyDelete3rd day remember? Tomorrow is the day =D
ReplyDeletesure ;). i actually have 5 scholarships, and admittance to Cambridge, which i declined for obvious, financial reasons :D.
ReplyDeleteand, lol, policing grammar in an argument in which grammar is irrelevant won't get you anywhere. your pretension is larger than life itself; it's crazy. discrediting the other person through their grammar is like discrediting someone's intelligence because of they have dyslexia, and so can't read properly, etc.
lol, go look for things i said that display bullying behaviour and not out of retaliation. i keep telling you to prove things, and you never deliver lol. just talk, but no evidence.
ReplyDeleteno, in the same way that i don't know who primo is. i can even give dd my ip address to prove this, love.
ReplyDeletestaggering. i think it's time for the anti-cholinesterase, though ;).
errr, i thought that was opie's comment. disqus is bugging haaard. sorry. but, really, not sorry when you make stupid remarks like that. lesbian, really?
ReplyDeleteLove xtina, never really liked Beyoncé. Sadly, Beyoncé is superior in both questions. The only thing is that xtina HAD a better voice, until she decided to kill it (RIP, dear once-beautiful folds).
ReplyDeleteI thought his Babs cover was good. His random whistle thre me off a bit but it's not bad..
ReplyDeletePeople like you are the scum of the Earth. You're giving everyone a bad name.
ReplyDeleteof their*. ahhhh. tired, tired.
ReplyDeleteBetter yet how can anyway even say that singing your entire career with redicoulously lowered larynx be considred a great singer. Its not her natural sound so how can anyone say she's a "better natural singer". I know other artist have had the same issue but non have but I cant think of one who has based there entire career around it as she has.
ReplyDeleteMacy Gray sounds like someone ran her vocal cords through a paper shredder, then glued them back together.
ReplyDeleteAren't there aother singers who can do similarly fast runs? Mariah and Jessie J come to mind...
I wanted to join the discussion but then I took a quick look at the comments so never mind.
ReplyDeleteTo the people that hate X's voice: Why the big conspiracy? You make it seem like anyone with a brain should know how awful she is, yet I doubt the general public is that dense. In fact, one of my roomates college year (a football player going for buisness) said, "She's gonna hurt herself."
ReplyDeleteI also had a prof who discouraged his daughter from singing this way. I think a lot of people understand the dangers of how she sings, yet people still like her. Why? It could be that she's white and pretty, but so are a lot of aspiring girls. Why do people make her out to be so fantastic if she's not?
My name must taste good because constantly in your mouth.
ReplyDeleteYou enjoy fighting with people and engaging on arguments to defend your OPINION and then dare to call it "Logic". That's a joke.
You say my views are deplorable yet you are a nihilist, highly narcissistic person, to the point you've requested people to call you "God".
Leave me out of your arguments, I am not interested on having any more exchanges with you.
Lets hear Christina attempt to Sing those songs without screaming or better yet let her take a stab at Ava Maria or a Barbra Streisand song.
ReplyDeleteHaha, if I sound like a dying rat, what do the grotesque, guttural screams of your fave sound like? A toilet being flushed? A pig being slaughtered?
ReplyDeleteIf you think seth at kind of singing is good, I am not interested in you liking my singing :) stay mad. Keep listening to your fave and the 3 notes left in her throat, 2 of which are gore movie screams.
Vanessa Amorosi
ReplyDeleteDrops mic
Funny thing is that the sound Christina manufactures is her minstrel black-face take on soul singing.
ReplyDeleteHOT DAMN, things are going off in the comments lol.

ReplyDeleteLana is not a very good technical vocalist, yes, but her music isn't about that. She is an interpreter and conceptual musical/visual artist.
ReplyDeleteI'm talking about the more natural tone she had at her debut, not her faux-Whitney tone.
ReplyDeleteSorry, a discus failure :P
ReplyDeleteThat comparison is completely unsuitable. There are simply few parallels to be drawn.
ReplyDeleteBut, honestly? Snuff film ;P
