The Female With The Largest Vocal Range:Georgia Brown

Georgia Brown largest range
Georgia Brown:The woman with the
largest Vocal range

Georgia Brown, (born June 29, 1980) is an Italian/Brazilian singer noted for her extensive vocal range; listed in the 2005 Guinness World Records for hitting the highest vocal note ever and for possessing the greatest range, claimed to be exactly 8 octaves (G2-G10).

I'm not entirely convinced by this claim, as no recording of her hitting above the eighth octave-which is still impressive- has been found. Goergia Brown has since been replaced in the book by male vocalist, Adam Lopez.

Listen to some of Georgia Brown's high notes in the compilation below.

What do you think? Does a large range make a great singer?

  1. Hell NO! A large range does not= a good singer

  2. What a weird voice she has. The tone/stylings in her 'normal voice' are similar to Shakira, but with bad pitching, poor diction,  and an epic whistle register added on. It's a strange combination - like a cherry stuck on top of a cheese sandwich.

  3. Yeah her tone is horrendous, she is who I direct people to when people say a large range equals a good singer.

  4. Her Whistle register is not beautiful, like Mariah's. I wouldn't class it as singing. You wouldn't have to be able to sing at all to squeal like that. Just because she's making a high pitched noise, doesn't mean these note are a part of her range.

  7. You don't have to sing like Mariah or be as famous as Mariah to have the world record for the highest whistle note....

  10. Yea she has a crazy range but an awful tone that doesn't sound pretty at all. She screeches and it is ugly. She sounds like a stealing pig. She also seems obnoxious. I think I have to plug my ears.

  11. What is her voice type anyways?? Is she a coloratura soprano lIke Minnie ripperton???

  12. Big range bad voice

  13. I therefore have a conclusion, range doesn't matter. Compare Houston and Carey. Houston has the peak of C6 but Carey's is G#7. Houston is much more adored than Carey. Peace to everyone, but I think it doesn't rely on your range. Is Georgia even famous???! I never heard of her name until I came on this site anyway.. :(

  15. a large rang will always make a great singer. if you think of ones voice as an instrument, then they are in charge of thier instrument....listen to nina hagen who has sum bizzare songs, but the vocals to keep you listening. yma sumac is another.one.

  16. maria is overrated..she is a medium range singer for the masses! Quit listening to the radio and mindlessly saying what entertaqinment tonight etc. says. btw i worked on a maria video and when she sang with the song she just pretended to lip sync the highs. which is fine when doing a video, but why did she not lip synch the easy notes????

  17. true dat Brian. she has the world record,...it doesnt mean she has a good RECORD company behind her writing pop songs! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  18. It isn`t true - the information is pretty OLD!!! The highest female voice in the world is russian coloratura soprano Svetlana Feodulova. She holds actual world record right now in 2013 (record from 2010).

  20. wow! like a train wreck. I can hit random notes but that does not make me a singer/vocalist.

  21. She has a never ending range and can hold notes for a long times but somehow still can't sing

  41. For what note?

    ReplyDelete
  42. But here Georgia proves that a large range does not make you a great singer - she has little control over any part of her range, poor technique and hardly any musicality... The only thing that she maintains is a harsh tone throughout - her chest voice sounds like wild beasts calling to the devil and her whistle register sounds like a kettle boiling or a fire alarm.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Definitely not a coloratura - anything coloratura about her voice is forced. I'd say some mezzo but then when she sings in chest voice it sounds fake and forced too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. "Got Mariah Carey beat" just because she can sing an octave or two higher? Well, I say sing, she screeching like a banshee. You need an education in singing and music if you think she's better than Mariah.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Her name is MariaH not Maria, and when you do music video you usually lip the whole song, so I don't know what you're talking about there.

    ReplyDelete
  46. She writes about 90% of her own music though, so...

    ReplyDelete
  47. No, greater range does not mean a better singer, at all! A greater range CAN equal a better singer, when the singer deploys their range in a way that is appealing to the ear. Let's face it, a greater range generally leaves more room for vocal artistry than a limited range. Now, to contradict what I just said, if somebody has pinpoint lyricism, is extraordinarily gifted at a certain instrument, or has a gorgeous unique tone, (or all 3 a la Fiona Apple) but has a limited range, it doesn't make them any less talented an artist. Enya, for example, has a very minimal range, but her voice has a signature breathiness that gives it its own distinct character. Basically, a greater range is only useful if you know how to use it to your advantage, a la Christina Aguilera (I know, her technique is awful, but damn that girl can still sang) who uses her range and unique tone to deploy her melisma, and showcase her finely tuned instrument.
Otherwise, a big range doesn't mean squat.

    ReplyDelete
  48. She's counteralto, has very dark color, but that doesn't make her bad singer.
I think she sounds awesome here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IY03-ykSyc
If u can dislike something sung so good then it's not matter of her being bad singer but rather of u having taste of big mass that just doesn't like that sound of strong female voice. (There was live video which is 10 times better then this, but I can't find it anymore.)
