[Watch] Mariah Carey Performs Live At The Rockefeller Center

Mariah Carey's voice is back and ready for action if her set at last nights tree lighting ceremony at the Rockefeller Center is to believed! Selecting a track from each of her Christmas albums, the Diva- who is now judging others on their vocal skills- made sure she brought her A-game to event. This was 100% live people, and 100% amazing!

As much as I love All I want For Christmas, this wasn't the song I was most excited about hearing. But it shouldn't be ignored because she gave one of her best renditions of it in years. There was a little tension and rasp at the top of the belted notes, but everything else was flawless; with Mariah's head voice being in particularly good shape.

Christmas Time Is In The Air Again is the song I really wanted to hear Mariah Carey tackle. With it's simple arrangement, and lack of background vocals, it's a song which leaves little place for a dodgy note to hide. Again, Mariah did not disappoint. Not only was her "whisper" register on good form, sounding healthy, but that belted note at the climax was stunning!

Mariah Carey totally blew me away with these performances. Her voice sounded, overall, more healthy and consistent than it has in a long while. The confidence with which she wielded it was also great to witness. Now we just need some decent material for which Mariah to showcase it on!

  2. It sounds like she's trying to belt differently. Where the rasp comes in I mean.

  6. I love that she's sounding better now. Recovered from that HORRIBLE Triumphant performance. This Christmas, I'm wishing for Mariah's full vocal recovery. (not happening I know.)

  9. I think that's her old way of belting. But because her voice has lowered, it's not cutting it for those notes anymore. When she mixes a bit lower, her tone is perfect, but the rasp comes in when she adds too much chest voice.

  10. This chick is always lipping. Don't be fooled. Xtina is the only vocalist who keeps it real with LIVE vocals.

  14. Hey, I initially used mobile footage from the event as the clips. So my comments were made based on those and not the HQ videos that were later released and which you now seen on the site. So yep, I was very impressed! :D
