Ke$ha checks into Clinic For Eating Disorder, Dr Luke Blamed

Fans of Glitter Queen Ke$ha already have a reason to dislike her producer and keeper, Dr Luke, for being too controlling and creatively stifling. So imagine the wrath they will now bring to his door for his ALLEGED role in Ke$ha's eating disorder.

Dr Luke's influence over the extent of the singer-songwriter's musical output was brought to the fore during the airing of My Crazy Beautiful Life when the star commented on how little control she actually had over her second album, Warrior. The result of this- and subsequent -revelations led the Diva's "Animals" to create the "Free Ke$ha" campaign, whose sole goal was/is to release the Diva from Dr Luke's management (you can join the cause and sign the petition here) so she can follow a rockier path away from pop and EDM.

But recent revelations have implied that the producer's influence went further than just the music; extending his critique to the singer's physical appearance. Jerk! This is of course speculation, with sources being "friends" of the Diva. But if they are to be believed, then the insults began in 2011 during her "Get Sleazy" tour, which might go someway to explaining the inorganic transformation that came along with her sophomore album in 2012. Just compare the videos from the last single from the Animal/Cannibal era (Blow in 2011) to that which followed after the tour (Die Young in 2012).

Aware of the contradiction between the cavalier attitude presented with her persona and music and the reality of her eating disorder, the Diva told TMZ:

"I'm a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself, but I've found it hard to practice. I'll be unavailable for the next 30 days, seeking treatment for my eating disorder ... to learn to love myself again, exactly as I am."

Whether Dr Luke criticised the singer and likened her to a "f***ing refrigerator"actually happened or not, the one thing we know for sure is that Ke$ha has checked herself into a clinic for treatment of an eating disorder. The whole sorry affair highlights the pressure put on those in the industry to conform to a standard of beauty- something which must be infinitely harder for those not considered conventionally attractive- and the devastating effect this can have on a person, no matter how strong.

I'll sign off by wishing Ke$ha a speedy recovery, and leave you with this fitting tweet she made on the first of the new year:
Thoughts?

  1. aw thats very sad. i wish her all the best and a speedy healthy recovery.

i seen her at the american awards and thought she looked fantastic (i feel bad now) because she had really lost a lot of weight to the point where it had changed her body shape to fit the revealing clothes better but it didn't seem natural, she's never had a " stick slim" body shape through her whole career which is fine she just isnt build that way so to see her so slim was a surprise and i hope she can get to a point where she loves her body no matter what size.

Even though she didn't have much control over warrior i thought it was a fantastic album, although most people really dislike her so i doubt many will share my opinion.

    get better soon ke$ha x.

  2. Loved the album, too. In fact I still listen to it today, over a year after its release

  3. I think it's rather the matter of people who surround you, rather than any ”beauty standard”, that leads to eating disorders. Most of people suffering from anorexia or bulimia actually have difficult relations with their family and classmates. Contrary to popular beliefs and what media tend to say, eating disorders are not caused by any need to live up to popular beauty standards, but by attempts to live up to your environment's standard - you basically want to be liked. I wouldn't be surprised if Kesha had very low self-esteem. To top it off she is one of the most hated stars, I think. Just type ”Kesha” into browser's search box and what will you see? ”Kesha's dirty, hasn't washed herself for years!” ”Kesha's slut!” ”Kesha's one of the shittiest stars in the world, the least talented, the ugliest, the most skunky one!” So I think Dr Luke might have had (as a person being close to her) his part in this story, although it's possible he didn't mean any harm. Perhaps he just suggested losing weight as one of the ways to improve her public image, but as a person with already low self-esteem and distorted self-image she just took it ”too seriously”.

  4. I think people often take pop music way too seriously, which is a pity. I really loved Warrior too, one needs some bubblegum pop here and there, although Ke$ha's music can't really be considered so.
I don't say that soulful, deep, heartwrenching ballads are bad, in fact, I don't think I would be singing if there weren't any. It's just about how to find the right balance between utterly brainless and tearjerkingly sad...

  5. I don't mind much for Ke$ha so I don't have much to say about her as a person; but, I really do wish her the best of luck with rehab. My sister suffered bulimia because she was overweight. Sometimes people called her "fat" and "ugly" whilst she walked me home...and it killed me inside. She began purging herself...usually only once a week, but it got to the point that it was almost after every meal. Fortunately she went to rehab and gained most of her weight back and decided to go the healthy and safe route for weight loss.

I don't know if that's Ke$ha's case or not, but she needs to know that everything will be fine. I'll pray for her...even if it's the glitter monster.

  6. Amen to what you say. People nowadays fail to underestand that only craving for a beauty standar is very unlikely to cause extreme eating disorders like bulimia o anorexy, there's always something more behind. The problem is that that "something more" can come in very different sizes and shapes. The real common factor all eating disorders have is not having an unhealthy beauty standar (even though the REAL beauty standar is never unhealthy) but having low self-esteem. When one's self-esteem is depleted in any area (which may or may not have anything to do with physical appereance; it may be studies, social abilities...) the other ones are affected too, and sometimes (and just sometimes) it may lead the person to believe that the problem is their physical. The beauty standar is usually just the top of the iceberg, a very, very dark and deep iceberg. Beneath the water there could be a serious mental illness like in the case of Demi Lovato, who suffered from bipolar disorder. There are other complicated cases like the one of a young french girl called Charlotte (I can't remember her last name, sorry) who recorded a documentary on her own bulimia to show people how hard it is to live with it.

Her case was probably the weirdest I've ever seen: she admired her mother above everthing else and wanted really bad to be like her, but whevener Charlotte tried to equal her mother's abilities in any area, she just wouldn't be good enough, which lowered her self-esteem. Hence, she "chose" (it wasn't actually her, but her subconscious) to follow a *reactive formation* (I have no idea of what is a good translation for the word in english, so the term may not be accurate) and decided that if she couldn't be like her mum, she didn't want to be a woman. She refused to have a femenin body with curves and voluminous breasts (which she had before the disorder) to the point she even bandaged them to make them look flat. However, she is aware of her illness, is aware that women are prettier when they have comething to grab and doesn't want her relatives to go the same way, so she usually cooks for them and doesn't let them leave until they've eaten everything. This is one of the many cases where beauty standars didn't have to do with the eating disorder.

Associations that work on erasing this kind of deseases are often more worried in trifles like skinny mannequins or Barbie dolls when the influence these have on people is actually quite limited (if not inexistent). That kind of associations had better concentrate in providing psicological help to people with low self-esteem or who are grown in inadequate enviroments.

  7. As a pretty big Ke$ha fan im pretty amazed I didn't hear about any of this until she made the announcement on Facebook. :I I hope she gets better. It makes sense now why Warrior ended up sounding nothing like she said it was going too when she first announced that she was working on it. I think she's creative, musically gifted, and definitely entertaining. And even though she's known for her Trashy lead singles- she has a really good ear for melancholic and somewhat spiritual music, which really attracted me to her after I got passed the "Oh shes just the new plastic" aspect of her career.

    ReplyDelete
  8. In addition to her not having creative control over Warrior, her management also stopped her from releasing an album she collaborated on with The Flaming Lips, although she said she'd release the album for free if she could. Also once last year someone asked her on twitter if she was dropped from her label and she responded "hope so", although the tweet has been deleted. I, for one signed the petition long ago myself.

I've actually worried for her weight for a pretty long time because she really did look noticeably thinner since the Animal/Cannibal days. I hate eating disorders so so so much. It's frightening because even if she recovers and gets stronger, her perception of food will never be the same, and you'll always have that careful feeling around it. I'm sending Ke$ha nothing but positive thoughts right now, and I hope she gets back to her old self as much as she can.

  9. In regards to your first paragraph, I've come to understand something perfectly now and it makes absolute sense. Although I am in no way a Ke$ha fan; her music is far too generic & banal for my liking, was her third album not supposed to be "Rock/Indie-Rock/Alternative-Rock- influenced" according to her? When I first heard that news initially, I was taken aback because it would have presented a different side to her artistry & musicality that would have been interesting to see/experience. What happened? 'Die Young' was atrocious (in my opinion) and 'Warrior' was far from that.

Anyway, as for her relationship with her record label/management - she is another artist signed to the, somewhat, controversial "360* Contract" which basically gives the respective artist NO creative control whatsoever for the first 5 years of their career.and is, largely, management/producer- run. I think you should look into it. It's pretty deep.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The amount of material she had written for her second album (Cannibal was an EP) was supposedly outrageous in volume. She wanted to try to do an oldies rock/Alternative sound but her Label mainly stuck with the most generic and radio friendly songs for the record. Im pretty sure thats why almost every song on Warrior sounds very radio and single friendly. Either way she seems quite unhappy with whats been released and personally I wish she would have the chance to really release something on the level of some of the glimpses to her true artistry shows.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Exactly. She is one of the biggest-selling digital acts in U.S music history yet there was a report, by the 'Examiner' that she wanted to claim bankruptcy and even when she was asked about it, she avoided the question which lead me to believe that COULD very well be true.

Rihanna is another artist who was, initially, signed to the "360* Contract" but she successfully managed to break away from it in 2007/8, after a 2006 label dispute because, according to an ex- lawyer of hers, she didn't like the way her management was trying to cater her as a "West-Indian- Beyonce Mini-Me". Everybody can see the clear 'image/artistic' change from and between her 'Music of the Sun/A Girl Like Me' era's to the 'Good Girl Gone Bad' era and everything since. I think this one of the best professional choices she's ever made because she has become, undoubtedly, one of the most diverse/versatile Pop stars today.

I really do hope that finds the appropriate legal team to help rid of this contract because, after thorough readings about it, it isn't nice. At all.

  12. Damn, I generally don't pitty anyone but I feel bad for her. There is nothing worse then trying to do something you love only to be tricked into being a tool to make money. Some people are too, too good for a world so twisted....

  13. who are you kidding when you think you have any control working with Dr. Luke
hes the epitome of whats wrong with pop music - so generic and so chart mentality driven

i hope keshas fine and that she finds freedom
i do think its weird though that stars are having trouble with their managers and producers
gaga came out earlier and broke it off with long time collaborator and manager troy carter because she said he was stifling her creative vision

i think its brave that these stars are breaking away from those they think are holding them back even though its not a savvy business move

    hope kesha returns healthy

  14. hah doesnt matter that katy isnt signed onto it shes the most generic of them all atleast rihanna's persona is a tad more interesting

  15. I agree. He, 'Max Martin, RedOne , Benny Blanco & David Guetta', are just... Words fail me.

Yes, they've created dozens-upon-dozens of #1 Pop hit the pat decade and contributed to some of our 'mainstream faves' success but their style of 'art' is dreadful.

  16. I hope she gets well soon and that Dr. Luke would find the idea of booking a seat on the space ship travelling to Mars in 2015 interesting.

  17. I don't consider myself a Ke$ha fan but I enjoyed Machine Gun Love.. it should have been a single.. I don't see why it wouldn't have place well on the charts...

  18. All I can say is...wow, this is some off putting design you went for this time DD

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yeah, its kinda like the clash of Elizabethan themes, Bumble Bee the auto-bot and a black hole.... But strangely, it grew on me...I just want the yellow to go.... It is the color I hate more than humanity itself... I do like the darker color, just not the yellow....

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks a ton for voicing that out. I was really bothered when I first saw it. The older theme was much, much better. Also, I would like the margin/comment snippets back on the RHS, please. Please! The black color is too harsh on the eyes. DD, please change it back. Pretty please!

    http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view4/2286008/begging-cat-o.gif

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes, it's the black which bothers me most! "too harsh" covers it nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Don't you know I've accepted sponsorship from the AOP. Damaged/ burnt out irises are part of the trade off....

As for "Also, I would like the margin/comment snippets back on the RHS, please." Me no understand...lol. I'll try sorting that out once you 'splain it in a little more detail. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. This actually the most fun i've had redoing the site...lol. As a result, it's bound to keep changing, so just try to ignore it for the most part. Content is king- as Google like to say! :D

    ReplyDelete
  24. I meant the whole white ribbon on the side with 'recent comments', 'recent posts', 'popular posts', 'commenting on the blog' etc links with it.

I realize it is the norm to have it on the LHS but your ribbon is quite fat, making the actual content page look shifted weirdly to the RHS. Would be better if you somehow trimmed the fat out of that white ribbon or shifted it back to RHS. I wouldn't moan like this but its content that is becoming bothersome to read because of this (content- articles + comments- is all that matters to me here anyway). Trust me, this looks harder to read on a bigger, wide-screen.

Also, please revert the background to white/grey or some pale shade of white with black text on top. Black text + white background always works.

This black thing really scares me. I thought for a second that you had gone for one of those awful 'neon' themes. lol. And that I'd start seeing comments in florescent green!

    ReplyDelete
  25. OH! RHS is shorthand for "right hand side"! DUH! LOL. Ok that makes sense now! That can be done easily. I'll mess about with the rest maybe tmw.

    ReplyDelete
  26. oh! bless ya' DD! great response-resolution time. :D

and sorry for the language bit, i could have been clearer. its just so painful to type the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well, far be it from me to spoil your fun. :-)
I don't mind lay out changes generally. It was just that the black was so harsh, it acted as off putting on me. This dark grey is so much softer and more pleasant imo.
    Thanks for changing it. :-)

  28. LOL That was indeed quite horrible. But I think you'd have to blame Zurich rather than the German language at large.

  33. Just what the world needed..yet another rendition of Hallelujah with Buckley's American "penis gun" lyrics.

Yes she did "pretty well" but I deeply hate the fact those changed lyrics are now so ingrained that even if you search for "Cohen's lyrics" you will find that, most overrated of all artists mainly because he was a mental case and idiot, Buckley's crap.
So, in light of that just in the hope that some people at least will realize the real lyrics, here's the Poet himself with the original verses ;-)

  34. LOL Well now, to be fair that's not really a German's accent but Cool you posted Liza. A singer rarely mentioned here..undeservedly so I'd say.

  36. Mom is that you? LOL my mother reacted the exact same way as you, except that she literally went Bonkers. She really really adores the Gospel choir she's in and defends and worships Gospel music excessively. So yes, I know the original :) I just thought the whole scenery was kind of nice and so is her voice, althought its really special and might not be everyones taste. But I hear you :) I just dont take it that seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  37. LOL well your mom is probably way closer to my age than you are so there is that!
I wouldn't take it as seriously if it weren't for the fact that I A; hate the disrespect of taking a song and changing part of the lyric. (I would have found it more acceptable if he had written an entirely different lyric to the same melody and changed the title as well)
and B:people would not en masse think the Buckley lyric is the Cohen lyric. If you google for the lyrics by adding "Cohen's" you still find the same lyrics as if you add "Buckley's".

Also the over rating of Buckley annoys the hell out of me tbh. ;-)

But like I said, I thought Bonnie's rendition was pretty good. But, forgetting the annoyance of those Buckley lyrics for a minute, I really do think KD Lang's rendition is to date the penultimate of all the renditions I heard.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Btw that's not a gospel song. If anything it is steeped in jewish religious thought. Though I can see how it can fit a gospel choir's repertoire alright. :-)

Also If your mom likes gospel and her choir likes to get of the obvious repertoire at times, you should tell her about Alison Krauss and ''her'' band member Ron Block who wrote some gorgeous gospel songs.
Here's one of them for example.

That's his prerogative, he never said it was him. Leith isn't impersonating a Jolteon with his pic, I'm pretty sure Brian isn't the main cast of Adventure Time. Calm your tit.
