Shakira and Rihanna Get Suggestive (YAWN!) in video for "Can't Remember to Forget You"

Anyone else feeling like that they've seen a little too much of our Divas' behinds of late? I know I am!!

I blame Beyonce for this realisation. Anyone who has "watched" her new album couldn't have failed to notice how much her bottom features. Strangely, I didn't have an issue with that while watching, and thoroughly enjoying, the promos. However, all of a sudden I feel like showing one's booty has become the new side/under boob. It feels like everyone is at it! Maybe Bey's Grammy performance on the weekend was what tipped me over the edge, headfirst, into the crack of despair.

(Anyone wanting a flavour of what I'm talking about -in terms of Bey's behind featuring so prominently on the album- press the button below.)

Shakira and Rihanna's video for Can't Remember to Forget You is more of the same: more buns and more suggestive imagery. Maybe I'm just cranky today, but this approach to garnishing video views- which now count to chart placing in the US- is getting boring. I enjoyed watching Shakira rock out, and the parts where the pair mirrored each others choreography against the wall, but my general feeling to this video can be summed up thusly :

And since I've had Yoncé all on my mouth like liqueur, thought I'd add her own outing with Shakira to the post and a questionnaire asking which of the two you prefer.

Thoughts?

  1. I disagree with you. I love this new liberation that Madonna and other fought for.

It was okay (and even promoted) for men to have their bulges as visible as possible, in some cases amplified. They could grab, thrust, etc.

I'm here for women doing it now on their own accord as opposed to the pimp-like fashion that was incepted by 2-live-crew.

Women in sexual control is so hot, and I'm gay.

  2. Song is growing on me. All I have to say is that the video doesn't correlate with song's lyrics. My wild imagination wanted something on the lines of a Secret Agent type video lol, maybe similar to Britney Spear's "Toxic" video, but maybe it's just me. I didn't like it that much, as sexy as it is. When Shakira started playing drums and the guitar in a leotard, I was REALLY thrown off.

All together, it was a pretty poor video lol. A hosh-pot of foreplay, a$$, and occasional dancing.

  3. My flatmates prayers have been heard! Right now they all have grown a tent down their pants and looking kinda like this http://static3.vayagif.com/gifs/2013/07/GIF_173378_que_estan_haciendo_el_humano_y_la_humana.gif

BTW, Shakira sisn't actually follow Bey's line, she has always been known for those hip movements who are hypnotic even for me.

  4. So, again, Rihanna has happened to "outshine" someone in both their own song and video? LOL. Well, indeed, it was expected; Rihanna (who looks SEXY AS HELL by the way) has this 'appeal' that one cannot deny it and it would have flopped much harder than it's doing right now had Shakira not used/collaborated with another artist to add momentum to her current project.

All in all, it was a good yet predictable video. But, in all honesty, Rihanna - we've seen this before albeit a Darker version:

  5. This video was just two women who didn't know what to do, so they just started touching each other. Next, please.

  7. I have no problem with it, just finding it boring is all.

  8. I thought I was being a little too blatant with that...obviously not ! :D

  10. I may have to disagree. The video is actually pretty pleasing to me, and I enjoy seeing women who are proud of their sexuality and showing it off. The scenes with both women together are great, and I've been doing the booty wall-grind move nonstop since I saw the video.

  11. Hey, DD... You spelt "Rihanna's" name wrong. LOL. ;-D

  12. You think I'd know how to spell it by now, oh well. Thanks :D

  13. To me, Rihanna tries too hard to be sexy and stay in the spotlight. Shakira has always been naturally sexy without trying in my opinion but all this so-called "lesbianism" seems like a blatant pandering to their straight male fans and some lesbians who just like seeing two women get all touchy-feely. The song isn't great (very forgettable) and the video is pretty lame as well.

  14. I think what made the whole booties everywhere *yawn* stand out in this video is because the video doesn't really tell a story. It's just let's just shoot hot girls doing hot things and call it day.

  15. Rihanna definitely outshines Shakira. I feel like Shakira needs to darken
her locks or something. She's fade in the background like just nothing
pretty girl (especially with the my hair matches my skin color exactly
look). While Rihanna always has an exotic vibe to her. And no I'm not
using exotic as "foreign" but as unique and alluring.

  16. Ahh delete my comment by accident. The sad thing is this video could do with a really do with a nice video. You have to kind of warm up to the song so replay worth video would have be great.

  17. i already have forgotten about this and then this post.................................

  18. Except those women aren't doing it "on their own accord". Where men do that grabbing etc to convey their power, prowess and aggression, women are doing this to please other people. (straight) Men mostly.
And this has nothing to do with women being in sexual control. Trust me, these women really didn't "get off" sexually by making this video. Their sexual pleasure has (excuse the pun) fuck all to do with it.

  19. I agree with Opie (which, as of late, has gotten kind of infrequent haha). Even though I don't really like the use of sexual images in music (both male and female ones), I'm fine with them if they're done to express something or because they really feel like doing it like, for example (I can't believe I'm gonna say this considering how much I critizied her for that), when Miley twerked Robin Thicke in the VMAs. I mean, I still think that it was ridiculous, but at least she did it because she really wanted to and not to attract views as Shakira and Rihanna are doing here.

  20. Thank heavens Leith, conversation would get quite boring if we all were in full agreement all the time. :-)
This video is of course clearly ridiculous. Lyrics don't even call for two girls in any way. The subject how this woman feels about a guy
A guy this woman will do "anything" for to have sex with. Even though, it seems, doing so she really considers a "mistake" and he has given her bad things she'd rather forget, she is willing to "rob and kill" for the bloke.

This is not a woman in charge of her sexuality. This is a woman a slave to her sexuality. And a slave to a guy.

  21. I can't say I dislike the lyrics. Of course they express a situation in which a person (who could be either woman or man) is a slave of his/her sexuality, but let's face it, we've all been there at least once, trying to keep someone by our side even though we know he/she isn't any good. The song doesn't give an advice we should follow, but it does express a situation many of us have been through. Maroon 5 wrote a similar song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpypkvZjJiI

However, yes, the video is utterly ridiculous and it goes to show that this ladies have nothing to offer besides her bodies, which IMO is a pitty in Shakira's case because she does have a great talent.

  22. Idk, really liked Shakira in this video. She shows her stuff but doesn't overdo it. Rihanna however is doing nothing for me.

  23. We talk with our lips, Shakira talks with her hips!

  24. its not liberation anymore
its more for shock factor and appeasing the straight male demographic

rihanna is sexy and we know that but i feel like she shoves it in our face way too often

plus the song kinda sucks..... ;(

  25. Oh my gosh! This woman's belts are just like Kelly Clarkson's when she had that hoarse voice.

  28. LOL, "into the crack of despair", ridiculously funny! But, what can I say, Daddy over here likes to see some booty, especially from two of the most gorgeous women EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRR! 'Butt', yeah, it's definitely becoming a cliché for some of today's Divas, see what I did there, sigh, I am such a dork :-)

  29. poor guy!even after this kind of performance people are still criticizing him for not matching beyonce performance last year:/

    ReplyDelete
  30. By "people'' I guess you mean hard core Beyonce fans? Because I can't imagine anybody else using that show as the standard to measure by.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Good show! But all the illuminati "researchers" must be deeply disappointed. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. And where the hell are men ever shown in an only remotely similar fashion as women, in porn-like poses?? Together with other men??

Women are the ones who are objectified all the time and not men.
These images are disgustingly hetero-sexist and it's incredible that anyone who calls himself "gay" would not notice that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. And by the way, it's not "on their own accord", it's for profit and dictated by the industry. It's a business model, and a deeply inhuman one!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Beyonce I can't agree with but Madonna was imo the most entertaining HT show I've seen.
I am not really into Bruno Mars either but, be it here or at the Grammy's, guy puts on a good show every time. Energetic and good fun!

    ReplyDelete
  35. "inhuman"? I'd say more like "human, all too human" ;-)

  36. i think everyone's forgetting that shakira's 37

  37. believe it or not alt the fellow artists and musicians I know respect and enjoy Beyonce as a performer, including the Superbowl one. and being a pianist, i can only really agree with them. her musical precision and agility while dancing is phenomenal, and you need to see that despite your personal bias against her. what you hold as a standard might be different sideways from those who hold less personal issues against her.

actually, i don't even need to emphasise on the respect she has garnered. the internet is overflowing with beyonce work ethic articles.

  38. Believe it or not..there are loads of people who have little respect for an artist who keeps lipping when she doesn't need to.

I am pretty sure though that if those amongst them are fellow artists, they won't be saying so in public. ;-)

However, my remark here went purely to the HT Super Bowl show last year.
It was bland and I don't think future acts are going to use it as the one to measure their show against.

  39. When showing your boobs became too risqué

  40. Shakira is much better looking than Rihanna (IMO Rihanna is borderline ugly) but Rihanna just stands out more visually. She's one of those people that you can't help but look at her. Also, despite her limited vocal abilities, her voice happens to suit this song much more than Shakira's does.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think that Shakira was edited too much. RIhanna's vocals was spot-on for me

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good show, but honestly I was more entertained by Madonna and Beyonce's respective half-time shows. I did enjoy the show though, even though I personally don't like Bruno or the RHCP.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I didn't mean my remarks on the lyrics to be criticism. Just building a case why this video has little to do with either the lyrics or female empowerment. :-)
If I would critique them I would say that indeed it's a pretty common theme done in a very obvious, straightforward fashion.
(In fact I seem to recall Of Human Bondage also treats the subject) Which makes it , to me rather boring (the simple, straightforward approach I mean) but I have no "objections" as such to the theme. I have issues with the claim it would be a demonstration of "female empowerment" though.

The lyrics though clearly speak of a "he" and "his". I don't think there is any question on the song being about a guy.

  44. Speaking of 'Derrieres'....'tipped me over the edge, headfirst, into the crack of despair.' Oh Lord! Please tell me that was an intentional double entendre.
