[Clip] Lady Gaga Paints Herself With Puke During "Swine" Performance @ SXSW

I'm slightly loath to post on this because I feel like I'm acting as an enabler for Lady Gaga and her exceedingly outlandish antics. But whateves. Why not give her what she wants.

After her brilliant performance of Artpop on the Tonight Show, I was hoping Gaga had finally pulled herself together and was ready for a fresh, and cohesive, push of her latest album. However, having someone barf on her during a performance of Swine at SXSW was not what I- and I can't imagine anyone else- would have expected, or wanted, from the Diva's renewed promotional campaign!

Well done, Gags, you've taken shock value to the next level. God only knows what you're going to do for an encore. ( I can only imagine how I'd have reacted if I'd been at the show, even looking at the YouTube thumbnails made me feel gippy enough!)

I haven't watched the clip myself, because it's not really how I want to start my weekend, but you guys may feel differently. I await the pseudo-intellectual blurb that will no doubt be attached to this career defining moment.

The full SXSW set by Gaga will air at the end of March......I may give it a miss....

  1. Oh my, yet more derivative work from Gaga. Obviously taking her ''inspiration'' from the mind of that performance artist whose work she likes (the name escapes me at the moment).
I bet suddenly Miley's tongue looks a lot more appealing. :-)

  2. I'm not a fan of this woman anymore. I've gotten to the point now that I just wanna see a singer get on stage and simply sing to their heart's content... Maybe I'm getting boring... IDK.

    ReplyDelete
  3. LMFAO.

The harder she tries, the more boring she becomes. This stunt absolutely screamed "DESPERATION" albeit, no doubt, it was innocently done in the name of her "art" and "unique eccentricity" as she will soon say.

All in all, in my opinion, she hasn't been remotely interesting since 2010. Her antics seem stale and stagnant now and there shall come a time when her ever more exaggerated performances, costumes and public utterances will alienate her fans; I think she is dangerously close to that stage if she isn't there already.

I am really really interested in her and everything and i love her and i do not even loathe that vomitting, in fact i kinda liked that performance, but this is strange, she tries to hard, the art slips away, give back 2009/10, the one that was art...

  5. It does make make sense though.. The song is about rape and being mistreated and dominated and abused, hence the vomiting on etc.

  6. HauntinglyHollow14 March 2014 at 23:32

It does, what if she is just misunderstood ?????????????

  7. If it shocked or appalled you, that's exactly what the song is about and trying to convey

I usually love Gaga, but this reeks of desperation. When an artist has to resort to vulgarity and pathetic antics, they cheapen themselves immensely. And the sad thing is that she doesn't need to do all that crap, she is a good singer, a good musician, she should shock us with great music, not with "2 girls 1 cup" disgusting stuff. What will she do next to try to shock us? rub (literal) shit over herself? eat shit?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Primo Uomo Assoluto15 March 2014 at 00:02

Whoever would come up with it, is pathetic. How much artistic skill/talent does it require to vomit? None. I'm done with Gaga for now, I cannot even stan for her after this extremely un-glamorous display.

  10. And you people were thinking about rape and abuse when they watch that? Gaga thanks for distracting us from the topic from rape & abuse once again....

  11. Nope. Not today, *leaves thread*

  12. WOW, I love Jennifer & Mariah! I think the video and song is weird for JLo? She is a 45 year old mother. That is my opinion, of course, it is a free world but for what she is putting out with this material. I think I would rather purchase Katy Perry or Rhianna for a more young girl living single experience. JLo and Ashanti were $hiznit back in the late 90s and early 2000s!

  13. I had so many things to say but I'm over it.. she makes herself seem so yesterday. But I did think it was interesting how Demi Lovato went after Gaga..

  14. She's a little too artistic for my taste lol

  17. oh i did like the whole thing LOL I'm not gonna discuss my thoughts on it cause i'm just too lazy, i just like the shitty but humble vibe of the whole mess, now everyone in the industry seems to be in the fairy tale mode and we're all crystal clear, things started to get a little cold. Guess i'll finish with a miley lyric: "a little bit of a dirt never hurt nobody, and now i got dirt all over my body".

For someone so beautiful, I don't know why she insists on presenting herself as hood rat. The whole "I'm so real with my g3rls from the hood" bit at the beginning was like the torture of Tantalus. I guess..."aunque la mona se vista de seda, mona se queda".

    ReplyDelete
  20. As I've said about some other videos before: If I wanted to see hot boys I'd be watching porn. The song isn't my cup of tea either, so pretty much the only positive thing that I have to say it's that JLo looks stunning.

I don't. I'm very particular with whom I stan for. I need my Divas to be glamorous. That's why I stan for Kylie, Mylene and Monica Naranjo. Instead of vomit she could have been covered in blood or something...I don't know...there's ways to be shocking and still be glamorous, for example:

  36. I think that men have been also objectified many times: Boys will be boys, Where have you been all my life, Boy toy, It's raining men, Dark horse... Not saying that women don't get objectified because they do and more than men. I'm just saying that there's many places I'd go to see hot boys before a music video.

  38. I love the music video, but the song's instrumentation is sooo 2001 like, seriously. That man with the dreadlocks can get it anytime, like fureel' doe'..... And French Montana needs to get his ugly ass on somewhere...all these sexy ass men and this pot bellied swine gonna come in and fuck up the rotation... Like fureel' doe' how yu juss gonna go from sexy French models to shot out French Montana like that.... And he needs to lay off the pizza and get to a gym quick, fast and in a hurry. I don't mind fat or wide set people but he's skinny and fat at the same damn time and that ain't purttie.

Hmmm, 2 bad she did what she wanted. Everyone's talking about it, and I don't like it. I just think she wanted this to happen, it's like 2008 all over again. But still I'm not allowed 2 judge her & her "art", she went to Tisch School of Art after all, and was one of the few to be accepted earlier, she had a perfect score. So our opinion is irrelevant. She's still hot tho.

  50. The girl who puked all over Lady Gaga's chest during SXSW this week says Demi Lovato needs to calm down ... because their performance wasn't meant to glamorize squat.

Performance artist Millie Brown tells TMZ ... she and Gaga did not intend to offend anyone struggling with bulimia -- they were attempting to challenge the concept of beauty.

Millie says, "there's a clear difference between using my body to create something beautiful, to express myself and feel powerful, rather than using it to punish myself and conform to society's standards."

As we previously reported ... Demi blasted the performance yesterday saying it glamorized bulimia." -TMZ

So there it is the ART thing... -_-

  62. During the Monster Ball Tour, Gaga was at her peak, so everyone was willing to give her a pass. Now that she reached new lows, this antic passes for what it is : a desperate-for-attention publicity stunt.

Meat dress, shocking? The only person who was shocked was Jana Sterbak!

    ReplyDelete
  66. The song itself is about sexual abuse and nasty men in the industry taking advantage of her, so I suppose in a way the nastiness of the performance made sense. I personally didn't like it because I don't like vomit, but I'm not going to get angry or try to take away her right to express herself.

I'm also not one to tell a sexual abuse victim how he or she is allowed to heal. This performance, as she said afterwards, was about healing. I don't find anything pathetic about personal healing, especially healing from such a traumatic event, and those belittling or attacking her for it, are the pathetic ones. Now, that's not to say you had to like it, because you didn't, but it's a little close-minded to label something "pathetic" or "pointless" without at least trying to figure out what was being said. Then again, this is Gaga. The people who love her love her for this stuff and the people who don't already think she's not worthy of anything more than a second glance, so I suppose I'm asking for too much.

Thankfully this was a one-off set, so I don't think she will be repeating it any time soon. She got what she needed out of her system and will hopefully be able to move forward after this. I guess we'll see during her Roseland concerts.

The rest of the set was okay. It was definitely created with SXSW in mind with its very off-the-cuff feel and lack of anything you associate with pop, such as big dance routines. I suppose I'll give her props for being able to adapt to such an anti-pop atmosphere.

At the end of the day, it got people talking and I guess that's what art is all about.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Primo Uomo Assoluto17 March 2014 at 06:45

If one says the vomiting is allegory for being sexually abused, and the performance was about healing...why did she allow herself to be vomited on? Is she saying she enjoyed the sexual abuse? It makes no damn sense.

Yes, it is, Divine actually ate a dog's shit off the street for attention. Actually, to prove she was the filthiest person in the whole world. It's from the movie "Pink Flamingos".

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNlcle4VqZA

    ReplyDelete
  70. Oh she isn't at her peak anymore that's why NOW we should call all
her attempts to get media attention are desperate even if she did the
    same thing before.

    Ok...

If I were to criticize, I would criticize her for what she said about pop
music (music style that made her what she is today), the bad state of
her voice during the show and that after all that "Marina Abramovic
cleansed me" shit, she started to use drugs again.

A ton of other contradictions during the show and you're all talking about puke...

    ReplyDelete
  71. No, that is not what "art is all about". That is what pop music is all about.
"Art" would be when you sublimate your life experiences. Not this superficial crap Gaga produces.
Picasso's "Guernica" THAT is Art. Gaga's act is not! It is PR

And that first paragraph...that is exactly the derivative nature I keep seeing from her.
Because that is what Abramovic is all about..healing her childhood abuse on a public stage. But Gaga is a spoiled rich kid whose supposed "abuse'' is a gimmick to sell her records.

And then there is the point primo made as well.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Note! Picasso managed to do that using just regular paint. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  73. OMG My roomates and I have been talking about watching that movie since September but we've never got to do it. Is it really worth it?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Maybe she meant to sexually abuse us viewers by subjecting us to that "allegory"? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Actually, she released 'just' 7 albums - On The Six, J.Lo, This Is Me... Then, Rebirth, Como Ama Una Mujer, Brave and Love?, so the next one will be the eighth one. :)

It's HILAR! It's so awfully bad that it's good. It's about these two feuding families, competing for the title of the filthiest people alive. One of the families is Divine, who lives with her son who has a sexual fetish for chickens, her promiscuous daughter and her mentally retarded mother who has an obsession with eggs and all different ways to cook eggs. The other family is this couple that kidnap high school girls to rape them, get them pregnant, sell the babies to lesbian couples and with that money finance a drug ring in elementary schools. LOL.

I only care about J-Lo if she is performing, and if the performance includes hardcore dancing... She can dance circles about almost every other popstar in the game. That being said, I loved the video, but maybe I'm just a perv. ;P

    ReplyDelete
  80. Vinicius Ferreira Mendes17 March 2014 at 21:25

I don't buy any desease or trauma Gaga shares with the public... They are always changing and being forgoten for a more "fashionable" one, what is actually very offensive to people who deal with the real thing. Madonna, Britney, Rihanna, Demi Lovato and many other popstars used the public stage to heal from their past experiences (while making good money), but they actually WENT THROUGH the stuff they wanted to heal.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Still a bad actress :/

  82. J-Lo had some great singles from her first two albums (I think '99 and '02 were their release dates, and I like most of the singles from those), but since then she hasn't really released any singles that I like much. Sadly including this one.

    ReplyDelete
  98. ABSOLUTELY. I am in awe of her power. When she comes on stage in this performance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTOTv-G3mz8 you can see Christina's terrible fake tan being peeled of by the sheer power of Ms. LaBelle's belt.

    ReplyDelete
  99. As usual, beside the point. I never said they didn't. Which why I said sometimes Christina sounded great , sometimes horrible. But either way...not everything done skilled is considered ''art".

    ReplyDelete
  100. No, I am not. It's perfectly logical that if you say Kelly Clarkson and Because of you in one breath, one would assume to be talking about her hit Because of you.
Since imo Tony Bennet bores me silly, I am not familiar with his repertoire, But I can tell you..that is not by Tony Bennet either. He is just one of several who covered it. It is actually a song by A. Hammerstein and D. Wilkerson.

And now I am done with this. I suggest if you want this kind of conversation, get in touch with Nicolet. :-)

  102. Are sounds of a higher frequency heard easier? Why is that?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Sorry if it seemed rhetorical. I was very serious. Why didn't Patti's voice sound as large this time? Age? The microphones? I want to learn more about vocal pedagogy and am still trying to understand everything. Any advice on learning more? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I agree. Her voice is too warm, less steely than the others, and too pure.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I don't think Whitney was truly a Mezzo before the 1995's when her drug usage and gradual decline in her voice became prominent. For me, Whitney had more of a Soprano voice during her prime years with those illustrious and bulbous Upper-register and that well rounded Lower-regsiter. However, Whitney, at least to me was never much of a belter in the Upper-register because she knew or at least I presume she knew her strengths and weaknesses. Her Mid-belts became more powerful and almost 'Dramatic' sounding during her 1995-2000 years when most of her record breaking hits took effect and her voice went through a sort of metamorphosis (Which, of course, ended ineptly). Whitney was a musical phenomenon in my opinion and no one can touch her musicianship, pure voice, and that glorious Head Voice. Of course, this can be debatable as it's my OPINION.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yes REALLY. because this definition goes to another form of the word.
Words can be used in different meanings and manners.
But like I said, if you want to call any piece of skilled craft "art", have at it and enjoy. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  107. Seems so and I thank you. You, my mentor, has taught me a lot from this argument. One, -which is very evident- is that adults do argue with 12 year olds, which, of course contradicts my belief. Have a good day. :D

Actually Whitney did praise Christina the same night in front of the stage.

in her words "best rendition she heard", "one of the only artist I enjoy listening to".

There is a video of that, if you can find this, you can find the same video Whitney praised her for.

  115. Well, I didn't like it at all; I couldn't bare to listen to it from 1:40 onwards and yes, I tend to listen to listen to most vocal performances from a 'technical' standpoint in order to be truly satisfied but, of course, that is just me. However, I tend to think that's more to do with my studying music and having been playing both the Piano & Saxophone for the past 12 years of my life and so "technique" is truly important to me.

Anyway, go onto the main Youtube page of this performance and you will see the MULTIPLE-DOZEN Xtina fans/stans saying that this performance was better than Whitney's actual studio recording of it. LMFAO... The delusion is laughable.

  116. Gee, thanks for the sarcastic comment. I was referring to your comment that she doesn't resonate. Shouldn't she be completely drowned out by these ladies?

Actually funny thing, I agree with you about Beyonce, I don't really like her voice but Ik she's fantastic. Well Charice is a filipino singer, Filipino singers have great fame of being Karaoke singers and forcing their larynx up and down to sound big and strain notes, Charice being a big example of that. Ailee's agility has improved, it's been a while since that cover. Well I agree but then saying the other ones are not limited, Ailee's lower register sometimes works from F#3 but I'd give her A3/G#3, but her head voice is well produced up until B5, technically still considerably able to do much more with her voice. I mean Ariana has no lower register and her upper register is all strained, she mostly uses a tense falsetto, so I don't get how she is capable of wow-ing or doing more with her voice with these conditions, she's more limited, less of range to work with, less technical ability. Now if you wanna judge people by voice, I can't really say much, cuz it's kinda your personal opinion and you're right, Ailee is good but she's not great yet, she's young though and by far, for her age, she's got really good potential to be great and perhaps fantastic, someday. But see watching it wasn't so bad? It may not have wow'ed you but at least it was vocally good. My only issue with your points is you calling her limited without acknowledging that the examples of singers you're giving me are by far, considerably much more limited, but I think you've got good points and I don't disagree, I personally love Ailee and I'd much rather listen to her than many others, but also am aware she's not the best ever, she's just really good for her age group and she's good. But I accept your opinion, if you like someone's voice better then you're completely welcome to, I just feel you shouldn't act or talk about a vocalist who's technically superior as if they were inferior just because you don't think their voice is great, she can't change that, that's what she was born with, so it's unfair to judge her singing by saying someone has the better voice, imo at least. Thank you for answering and for taking the time to watch the video though ^ ^ I'm glad you didn't think anything bad of it.

  118. I am wondering what you experienced that leads you to think you know something I don't? And that this sets you on equal footing with the life experience of a middle aged woman?
But no, you haven't hurt my feelings, you simply annoyed the hell out of me. :-)

  119. I had to leave as the feeling of wanting to slap the back of his head was overwhelming. But even more so I desire to slap the backs of the heads of his parents. Who clearly overindulged and overpraised this child.

I am also wondering what it is he exactly experienced which makes him think his experiences equal him to an adult.
But I see you also addressed that issue in general. Cheers! :-)

  120. Miss Chin almost sounds like Patti in that video. Feelin it! She proved me wrong!

  121. YES! She's 69 and still has her whole voice intact with a better sense of dynamics and technique. I mean, even Aretha was out of air during her 60's and she's only 71.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Yeah. Her Head Voice was and still is one of the best in the industry because it was so full and rich with texture. I completely mistook her voice as a full Soprano the first time I heard her although I now know she's a Spinto Soprano. :D

  124. Again, I do not "attack" or "bash"... I disagree and argue. Fact that some experience that as "attack" and "bashing" is their issue.
Maybe they are simply too young to argue with adults?
And no, my "next move" is not to say you are contradicting your belief. My next move is to say that you clearly did not understand what I said and meant.
Or the concept of free speech or the concept of "abusing".

What I would say regarding all this as far as contradicting goes, is that you seem to criticize me for simply arguing strongly where as I do not see you address those who are actually attacking and abusing people here.
Like I said, I think you do so because you simply are 'butt hurt" by me criticizing people and views you like.

You btw have no more an idea of what I have experienced than I have what you have experienced. My point was that I experienced a lot more by mere virtue of length of time I have been around which leads to rating experiences a lot different than you do.
That last sentence made no sense.

If you are all that more "sensitive" to other people's feelings than I am, how come you don't realize how utterly obnoxious it is for ANY 12 year old to talk down to ANY 50 year old regarding "life"?

  125. You should look up the word "stratospheric" in a dictionary before you go around correcting other people. It has two definitions. The first refers to the layer of the atmosphere above the troposphere. The second refers to the very highest levels of a profession or other sphere, or of quantities on a graded scale. Obviously Natsu was employing the second usage, as in "Her mid-belts are as good as it gets in this profession." Your oversimplified definition of stratosphere as "high" is just plain wrong. It means "almost unattainably high for humans," not high in an objective sense. It's hilarious if you know that the Earth's atmosphere has 5 layers and the stratosphere is the 2nd LOWEST...but you knew that already, right, smart guy?

  126. Aguilera did a beautiful Rendition of "Run to you". Whitney herself praised it. So i guess, the Rendition was at least worth to get some recognition!
And what makes it even more special, is, that Aguilera made the song her own. Way more powerful, not so polished and solid, but it is a real new interpretation...

  127. Can we please forget about Ariana for a minute and talk about the great Ms. Patti LaBelle?

  128. They had to listen to her sing for 14 mins..

  129. Wow she really made Have Nothing soOo boring. That a song that even if your vocals aren't quite there you can still entertain a crowd with your pizzazz. But to be honest Ariana Grande has always kind of bored me. Complete snooze feast.

  130. LOL So did I.

  131. What is the vocal span of Firework x Katy Perry I want to cover it!

    ReplyDelete
  132. I only watched the "I Have Nothing" cover. It was very plain and boring. She needs to stick to her own songs. I think the reason why she was struggling was because she was trying to replicate Whitney Houston tone which is rich and full which Ariana doesn't have... I love Ari voice, but this song did no good for her. I love that her voice is gaining more resonance and her enuactaion was better! Beautiful voice tho. ❤️

I think that Diva should make a post about all the artist that has participated in this game (or whatever this is) with Jimmy Fallon.

  136. Leith was explaining that, judging by your response, you misunderstood my comment Natsu.
I meant in response to Sasuke's awfully literal reply to a question posed, to reply equally literally, that it was not because they were moving air though their vocal chords that we could hear those singers singing in the White house that evening. It was instead through technology. Because none of us were there at the White House during the event and yet we can hear them. Not only, loud as she can be, can Patti not reach the outskirts of Washington, she can also not be heard in Holland a week later, simply by moving air through her chords. :-)

  137. I was more impressed by Miss Patti LaBelle rather than the star of the show, - Or so it seemed - Ariana Grande. Beautiful, Dramatic voice topped off with resonance that DECIMATED the other ladies. I mean, she's 69 and she can still outsing at least 99.9% of the "vocalists" we have today. And... Miss Chin, sing or leave... ;D Still love you!

  138. Patti Labelle has sung live, without the use of a microphone many countless times and was still able to be heard even towards the back row.
