[Review] Sia Makes Musical Magic with "Great Gatsby" Contribution, "Kill And Run"

We've already heard what Lana Del Rey and Beyonce have served up for The Great Gatsby soundtrack, but now it's time to hear what Australian singer-songwriter Sia's has offered up to the altar of Baz Luhrmann!

Kill and Run is a stunner, right off the bat. From its simple piano-led opening/ haunting vocal combo, to its eventual Earth shaking crescendo, this is a song that once again demonstrates Sia's uncanny knack for creating music that is as beautiful as it is emotionally raw.

Being part of a soundtrack crammed full of attention-grabbing A-listers, I do worry Kill and Run won't get the recognition or attention it deserves. However there's not much I can do about that, save placing my faith in the ears of humanity. So until we get the general public's reaction to the soundtrack I'll just console myself with thoughts of Sia picking up the Oscar for Best Song come whatever year this film will be eligible for the prestigious award. Surely, at the very least, it's deserving of a nomination! I mean, if Skyfall could win it....-_-!

Speaking of Skyfall, boy do I wish Kill and Run had been the theme for the next Bond film...sigh.

  2. The stuff she makes for others is stellar. Her own stuff... IMO not so much. This was boring and monotonous.

  4. She's actually really good. I could see her being one of the big pop stars of the next generation.

  5. There's some kind of speech impediment going on here that irks me.
The song's okay but I'm not as impressed as the article wouuld suggest.

Generally regarding this soundtrack....it's been a long time ago that I read the book but I do remember it's set in a certain era. So far none of the tracks seems to evoke said era for me.
Let's see if that Sante number does. As indicated.

  6. I would give it more to a B. It's maybe probably you've written such a great excerpt that kept my hopes up really high. Therefore when I listened I was really wishing for something outta the world. Hmmph. :\

Sia, as always, amazing vocals (duh!)
The song's more of an acquired taste, though. I like the arrangements with the instruments. Hauntingly compliments Sia's voice in this song.

  9. I apogize. ;-)
Its probably not the correct term for what I meant.
I meant she wraps her mouth around words in a way which somehow sounds ....different than most. And in a way that makes me do just that....notice it too much.

  10. Yes, she is a great singer, she conveys emotion and doesn't have to plague her recordings with unnecessary melisma. Her tone is pleasant to my ears and she is technically good.

  11. Well I agree that she is very good but she is too old to become the next pop sensation. She isn't really pop either. She writes amazing songs for other singers too.

  16. I was wrong! I saw a video on Youtube with it claiming to be the new florence song- it was in fact the track from the "snow white and the huntsman" film. Florence has indeed made a new song for this movie!! I'll make a post probably on the weekend!
