It takes some nerve to rock up to a festival with just a string quartet and a piano, but it's just what Lana Del Rey did for her set at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend Festival.

What is Lana Del Rey doing debuting new music when her album, Born To Die, still has so many great songs on it that need to be released and heard by those who aren't yet converted to the cult of Del Rey! I suppose I shouldn't complain when the song in question, Body Electric, is actually really good, but still, it feels too early for new music, especially when fresh Lizzie Grant albums keep surfacing.

Lana Del Rey continues to infuriate detractors by getting to not only work with some of the coolest people in music-in this case Bobby Womack- but also manages to gain praise from those collaborators too.

Now, Lana, you know I love your sound, your recording voice, and your ability to write an engaging song. In fact your album, Born To Die, is still up there with my favourite releases of the year. I've also tried to see the positives in all your shaky, live performances. After all, you are a new artist. But your latest rendition of Blue Jeans on The Voice was just so bad I'm not even going to try defending it.

You are supposed to be getting better with all the practice, not worse!

Yes Ms Lana Del Rey, you stay stuck to that piano, because its where you give your best performances!

Singing Without You from her debut album, Born To Die [Review], Lana showed the world she is a human being after all, giving a warmth and humility often missing from her performances. Perhaps it was due to her clearly being surrounded by fans, but Lana looked almost comfortable on stage and her surroundings, and this showed in her voice.

Displaying a raft of different timbres and parts to her range, she sang the love song gorgeously,  and in a way that deviated from the softer, Betty-Boop-like delivery of the album. It was a stark contrast to her robotic, and much ridiculed, Saturday Night Live performance [here], or her spot closing Jonathan Ross' chat show [here].

Album Review: Lana Del Rey Triumphs on Debut Album "Born To Die"

Its finally here: self confessed, studio singer and last years biggest musical Internet sensation, Lana Del Rey’s debut album, Born to Die, hit the shelves today. With a debut single as good as the bitter sweet love song Video Games was, it was always going to be an uphill battle trying to create a collection of songs that would not immediately shrivel into nothingness when placed on the same CD as it. But by heck, did setting the bar high from the get go produce a brilliant debut album.

It should be noted though, if you haven't liked Lana's voice, or any of the songs you've heard thus far from her, than this album is not going to convince you otherwise of her talent.

Whip out those red and cyan 3D glasses because Lana Del Rey's live rendition of new song Born To Die- which is a gorgeous song, might I add- is available to watch on Youtube in the third dimension!

It's the first time I've seen this feature on the video streaming site, and it is certainly impressive when viewing the video in its highest quality. Don't get too excited though, you won't feel like Lana is quite in your room. It does give the video a depth of field that is not present otherwise and it suitably adds to the magic of the performance.

Lana Del Ray gives first televised live performance of "Video Games" on Jools Holland

Internet music sensation, and now it seems fully fledged pop star what with her EP debuting high on Itunes charts around the world, Lana Del Ray gave her first live television performance yesterday.

Taking to the stage on British music show Jools Hollland, Lana gave an emotive, if slightly fragile performance of the song responsible for the majority of her buzz, Video Games. It was a mesmerising rendition that though contained notes that sounded slightly off- whether this was due to artistic expression or nerves we'll have to wait for future performances to judge- it thankfully demonstrated that Lana Del Ray is  capable of singing live, and that her voice really sounds as beautiful and unique as her recordings suggested it did.

With even veteran performers shying away from simple arrangements that leave no place for a voice to hide, Lana Del Ray took a real and gusty risk opting for such a simple and exposing arrangement at such a crucial performance. It's one that could have caused her train to mainstream success to derail if it had been bad, but that wasn't the case with Lana bringing the requisite goods, and as such it should only add to the growing hype and intrigue around the singer.

Any fear that Lana Del Rey's second offering was going to trip the singer up, after the sprint start that was the sublime Video Game, have surprisingly, and thankfully, been allayed with brilliant new song Blue Jeans. Its boggles the mind how a singer whose first musical love was hip-hop, then Nirvana and went on to study metaphysics at college became this amazingly musical Goddess.

Lana Del Rey- "Video Games" Heaven in song form!

Video Games by Lana Del Rey has got to be one of, if not the, most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Don't let the title fool you, this isn't a loud, electronic cacophony celebrating the joys of playing on a gaming console. What it is, is a beautifully, luscious, bitter-sweet love song that somehow manages to sound effortlessly timeless and classic despite just being released.
