I sorta feel like I've written about Resentment somewhere before. How else would it be that I was vaguely aware that it had been recorded by three Divas- Beyonce, Jazmine Sullivan and Victoria Beckham- before today?
The Beyonce version is the one I know best, since it was included on B'Day (an album I played to death). However, the song, written by Walter W. Millsap III, Candice Nelson and Curtis Mayfield, was originally recorded by Victoria Beckham two years prior to that LP for her show The Real Beckhams. It wasn't until four years post that flop that our final contestant, Ms. Jazmine Sullivan, recorded her take for her debut, Fearless.
Honestly, I don't actually like Resentment very much- whoever is singing it. However, since it's been picked up by three Divas, I'll extrapolate out and assume that I'm in a minority with that opinion. In any case, since the backing is similar throughout the selection, this will be an interesting Dueling Divas that will likely be decided by the vocal and delivery alone.
So what do you guys think: Did VB's pop voice make Resentment for you; was Beyonce's changed-up version more your thing; or did Jazmine knock both competitors out the ring?
