[Rant] Christina Aguilera Performs Lotus Medley @2012 AMAs

The post and performance from the 2012 American Music Awards I'm sure most of you were looking forward to: Christina Aguilera! God help us.

There is one thing I need to quickly say about her-it's a realisation I came to yesterday unexpectedly- and it's that she is the most consistently bad vocalist I think I have ever had the pleasure of being a fan of. If it wasn't for her recording voice, I'm pretty sure I would have jettisoned her from my affections  a long time ago. Anyway, back to the performance.

Reformed scuzzbucket, Ke$ha brought a tweaked version of the Die Young performance she did at the Australian X-Factor earlier this month [Here].

[Watch] Kelly Clarkson Performs Greatest Hits Medley @ American Music Awards 2012

If there is ever a singer you can depend on to bring the vocals, it's Ms Kelly Clarkson. Promoting her greatest hits, she put on a performance at American Music Awards that cleverly told her decade long journey through the musical world via her own back catalogue.

[Watch] Taylor Swift Performs "I Knew You Were Trouble" @ American Music Awards 2012

Stepping out from behind the guitar, and away from a microphone stand, 11 time American Music Award winner Taylor Swift gave a convincing performance of  I knew You Were Trouble.

Not only were the vocals pretty much spot on, but the fuller arrangement was something I enjoyed more than the original recording.  The backing was quite heavy in places, I'm not going to deny that, and there sounded like slight tuning issues during the descending notes at 3.06, but overall it was a better performance than I expected from Taylor Swift .

[Watch] Pink Performs "Try" @ American Music Awards 2012

Pink never fails to amaze me with her drive and ambition. I don't know many (any?) artist who would dare to bring the intense and dangerous choreography from  her exceptional music video Try to a live stage. But being the crazy S.O.B that she is, Pink did just that for her performance at the 2012 American Music Awards.

[Watch] Celine Dion Performs "Greatest Love Of All"

The Grammy organised tribute to Whitney Houston aired on US channel CBS, and thanks to the magic of Youtube the performances have hit the internet. The tribute I was most excited about hearing was that made by fellow member of the vocal trinity: Celine Dion.

[Album Review] Christina Aguilera "Lotus"

Christina Aguilera returns to the world of music with her seventh studio album, Lotus. After the commercial failure of last album Bionic it was always going to be a more "mainstream" sounding album that followed, for no artist can sustain multiple flops, no matter how big they are. However, even I was taken aback at how unimaginative and derivative the club inspired songs of Lotus turned out to be. Thankfully the few ballads on the album at least keep Christina's knack for inspired slow numbers intact.
