Shakira and Rihanna Get Suggestive (YAWN!) in video for "Can't Remember to Forget You"

Anyone else feeling like that they've seen a little too much of our Divas' behinds of late? I know I am!!

I blame Beyonce for this realisation. Anyone who has "watched" her new album couldn't have failed to notice how much her bottom features. Strangely, I didn't have an issue with that while watching, and thoroughly enjoying, the promos. However, all of a sudden I feel like showing one's booty has become the new side/under boob. It feels like everyone is at it! Maybe Bey's Grammy performance on the weekend was what tipped me over the edge, headfirst, into the crack of despair.

(Anyone wanting a flavour of what I'm talking about -in terms of Bey's behind featuring so prominently on the album- press the button below.)

[New Music] Lana Del Rey Covers "Once Upon A Dream" For Maleficent

Lana Del Rey Maleficent chilling

I am a sucker for a Disney villainess! In fact, The Little Mermaid's Ursula and Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent made such an impression on me that, even as a child, I felt aggrieved when they met their untimely (and unfair) demises. I was especially annoyed with Ariel! She was the one who started the chain of events that *SPOILER* led to Ursula being popped like a giant cecaelia shaped balloon. That's manslaughter, man!

[Watch] Pink Inspires With Aerial Acrobatics At 2014 Grammy Awards

Pink was serving up Cirque du Soleil realness for her 2014 Grammy performance. I can't even start with people saying that the Diva is repeating herself with these acrobatics. If you learnt a skill like that you're hardly going to leave it in the cupboard, gathering dust!

Pink is an entertainer in the truest sense of the word. This is someone who has absolutely no need to be putting her life in danger to hold a viewer's interest- her voice and music are enough to do so- yet she pushes herself to deliver these breathtaking visuals. That's something I personally find inspirational.

I was also thrilled to see her incorporate some of the choreography from the Try music video. That routine is art as far as I'm concerned, so am always thrilled to see it acted out, live. Kudos to the singer for giving kids a different kind of performance style to aspire to.

Check out Pink perform Try (yay) and Just Give Me A Reason (Booo, I still don't like this song) with Nate Ruess, below.

Katy Perry Is Sure To Get Those Illuminati Nuts Going With Spooky "Dark Horse" Performance @ 2013 Grammy

katy perry Grammy 2014

You know what? We all know by now that Katy Perry is not the best vocalist in the world. I think even she knows that. But what she compensates this assault on our auditory system with, well at least when performing at award shows, is a sumptuous feast for our eyes. Okay, she's not THAT bad, but her visuals always greatly improve on what is being served up, vocally.

Her rendition of Dark Horse at the 2014 Grammys was no different! Giving us Gothic goodness, the Diva certainly had me under her spell. The pole dancing around the broomsticks was something else though- good or not, I'm not quite sure yet. Even acknowledging the lethargy in her movements, I still enjoyed the whole spectacle- perhaps because I like the song.

Speaking of choreography, can someone explain to me what kind of dance move she was attempting at 2.25! Were her hips supposed to be moving, or was she just marching on the spot? Help!

[Watch] Lorde Sings "Royals" To The Royals @ Grammys 2014

I refuse to speak anymore about Lorde until someone tells me what she did with the (reportedly) $21,000 gift bag that performers and presenters receive for taking part in the Grammy Awards.

Did she adhere to the message of her hit Royals- which she sang at the event- and refuse the luxury bag, telling the organisers "That kind of luxe just ain't for us." OR did she grab it with both hands, while drinking Cristal and admiring the diamonds in her rings.

Someone let me know, asap! I MUST KNOW!

[Watch] Taylor Swift And Her Piano Perform "All Too Well" @ 2014 Grammy Awards

taylor swift grammys 2014

I really like Taylor Swift. I'm not sure why. I mean, I know why I like her music, but I'm not sure why I like her as a person. I'm not saying I should dislike her or anything, more so that I should be a little more nonchalant of her as an individual. With all this confusion going on in my mind, I'm not sure how to feel about her rendition of All Too Well at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

My immediate reaction was that I liked it! Simple and stunning was what I felt. However, after reading comments on YouTube calling it "mediocre" and "average," and kind of seeing what they mean when watching it a second time, I IZ CONFUZED.

Am I being blinded by my odd affections for Taylor, or was this actually a good performance? I'm sure you guys will give me a gentle nudge in the right direction with your critiques in the comments.

Did Beyonce Lip-sync "Drunk In Love" @ 2014 Grammy Awards?

beyonce jay z grammy 2014

With all the success- both critical and commercial- Beyonce's latest album is enjoying, it was only fitting that the A-Lister opened up the 2014 Grammy Awards. And kudos to the Diva for wanting to give an honest representation of what the album is (mostly) about by singing the sexually charged Drunk In Love . However, I'm not quite sure the Grammy Awards was the right gig for the performance she gave; it definitely wasn't strong enough to have been an opener.

[Free For All Friday]

I could really do with a Hallmark/Lifetime movie and a cup of tea right about now. Not long to wait, though! One starts at 3 on Channel 5!  Let me give you guys the synopsis *checks TV guide*:

"A criminology professor is suspicious when a colleague appears to have died from a heart attack, and teams up with a private detective to uncover the truth - and they discover the dead man had a number of enemies and harbored many secrets. The second in the series of murder mysteries, starring Dick and Barry Van Dyke alongside Kimberly Quinn and Jonathan Banks".

Not really what I had in mind, but I suppose I can pretend it's a feature length episode of Diagnosis Murder. I also need to pick up my car from a cousin's house...but I guess that can wait. The banality of (my) life..(!)

If you don't know the score, here be the rules:
  • Try not to get too perverted-this site still needs to basically be "safe for work".
  • If somebody starts a controversial subject, try keeping it civil when dealing with it. If things get out of hand please flag the conversation.
  • It would be nice if it stuck to music, but it's not a requirement! So talk about news, current events, how you're getting your hair done next time you hit the hairdresser! Whateves, really!
  • No nasty comments aimed at other users.
Inappropriate hugs to all y'all, and wishing you an awesome weekend!

[Yikes!] Patti LaBelle Refers To New Generation Of Divas As "Little Heifers"

Ms.Patti LaBelle don't mess around. Ask her a question and she refreshingly speaks what is on her mind. And this is exactly what happened when Pridesource had the audacity to ask what being a "Diva" meant to her. Lordy, I was not expecting the response that followed:

For you, what does it mean to be a diva?

That word is used so loosely that I don't even consider myself a diva. I always considered myself a woman who sings her heart out and who gives 120 percent. "Diva" is a word that I wouldn't wanna call myself because it's so loosely used. It's not cute anymore.

Is there a negative connotation to it now?
Yeah, because all these little heifers who can't sing are called divas! It doesn't mean anything to me and probably to some of the other ladies who have been doing it for as long as I have: Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick. You know, I'm speaking for me - I don't know if they like to be called divas - but I know I wouldn't call them divas, because it's not in good company.

But it used to be a respectable term at some point.

Well, for opera singers, and for ladies who earned it, but that was way, way back when. Now you can look up to them, but you might not see what you wanna see. A hot mess! People who are doing it and doing it with about 40 people on stage with them to hide their pitifulness - that's not a word, but you know what I mean.

Someone had their RDA of Krabby Patties that day! Still, I can't detect any lies being told here; the Dame of all Divas spoke nothing but the truth. The usage of the word has definitely changed in recent years from previously being used to denote a singer with a great voice, to now just being another synonym for any female singer (regardless of talent). I mean, just check out how the line up for the VH1 Divas concert has changed since it started in 1998. Sad times. If only she'd gone further and named names! Now that would have been something!

NB: I'm not unaware that I use the word Divas pretty fast and loose on this site. I'll be sure to punish myself for this indiscretion [...].

A Young Christina Aguilera Covers Swv's "Weak"

young christina aguilera singing

Taken from Christina Aguilera's time at the Mickey Mouse Club-which would make her around thirteen/fourteen, I think- this video was sent to me via email (hooray for emails!). I wasn't even aware that Christina was singing during her stint on the show, but according to Wiki it was part of the gig. The more you know, eh?

Oddly (to me), the songs chosen, by whoever was working behind the scene, were grown-ass tracks! There are other videos of the Genie In A Bottle singer covering hits from Toni Braxton (Another Sad Love Song), CeCe Peniston (I'm Not Over You) and Mary J. Blige (Real Love), however I thought I'd go with the SWV cover of Weak because I also enjoyed the other singers (Rhona Bennett and Nita Booth ) who joined the young Diva on stage.

Watching these videos it's apparent that Christina's singing style hasn't changed all that much since she was a teenager- no shade intended. Artificially lowered timbre, vocal slides, and contrasting (oft poorly supported) upper belts are all things that have followed the Diva through into her adult years. However, age, and experience, has brought the Diva's mature singing style a believability that her youth didn't convey very well.

Was it any wonder she was called "the little girl with the big voice"!

[New Music] Danity Kane Return With "Bye Baby"

My favourite girl group of the naughties have reformed (disclaimer: "favourite" as far as can I recall right now). Danity Kane are back, dearies! Well, most of them. D.Woods still remains conspicuous by her absence- which apparently isn't anything to do with her. Shame, because it would have made this moment even more perfect for me.

JoJo Is Finally Freed From Cruddy Contract!

JoJo is finally free from the controlling contract she had with Blackground Records!! Pop that champagne cork, people! But before you glug away, you should also know she's now signed to Atlantic Records. These guys aren't renowned for pushing artists in any big way, so don't expect the moon and the stars from this partnership. You only need to look at their handling of Delilah/ K. Michelle/Marina and the Diamonds/Santigold to notice a trend in artists being basically left to push their own projects.

Still, at least it means we'll be getting new music from the singer! And I'm thinking it'll be sooner rather than later as they'd likely be wanting to capitalise on the media attention and goodwill this news has generated for the singer.

[Battle] Demi Lovato Vs. Ariana Grande - Which Is The Better Singer?

ariana vs demi

New segment time! Get out the decorations, it's party time! Done? Now put em away! Ain't nobody got time fo' no party! So what's the new segment? Well it's something I've previously avoided out of fear of the site being overrun by nutters- but I live in fear no more!! Why? Because all that drinking over the holiday season has given me some sort of brain damage and I now trust people to be sensible when dealing with Divas being pitted against one another!

FREE FOR ALL FRIDAY TIME! First of the new year, no less. Now I am more than ready to be DRAGGED for the site layout in the comments, but perhaps we can restrict it to one thread? That way it's more likely I'll find them! (.....I think I'm ready for this......lol.)

[Watch] Tamar Braxton Takes "All The Way Home" To The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Looks like Tamar Braxton is getting back her vocal mojo! Praise Jebus! Taking All The Way Home to the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Diva gave a striking rendition of the knockout ballad lifted from last year's Love And War LP.

Is Lady Gaga Heading For A Breakdown in 2014?

It's time to play armchair, unqualified, pop psychologist. Today we welcome to the clinic our first- and most likely last- patient: the oft-outlandish Lady Gaga. A Diva who has sadly been exhibiting some bizarre behavior of late. Let's look at what's been causing the concern in more detail, below.

Ke$ha checks into Clinic For Eating Disorder, Dr Luke Blamed

Fans of Glitter Queen Ke$ha already have a reason to dislike her producer and keeper, Dr Luke, for being too controlling and creatively stifling. So imagine the wrath they will now bring to his door for his ALLEGED role in Ke$ha's eating disorder.

Dr Luke's influence over the extent of the singer-songwriter's musical output was brought to the fore during the airing of My Crazy Beautiful Life when the star commented on how little control she actually had over her second album, Warrior. The result of this- and subsequent -revelations led the Diva's "Animals" to create the "Free Ke$ha" campaign, whose sole goal was/is to release the Diva from Dr Luke's management (you can join the cause and sign the petition here) so she can follow a rockier path away from pop and EDM.

[Listen] Lea Michele Teams Up With Sia Furler On "Battlefields"

lea michele louder

Is it wrong that I can't hear Lea Michele's voice without my mind immediately concocting some Glee scenario- starring her character Rachel- to accompany it? For instance, listening to new song Battlefield, I immediately pictured the Diva in the Glee music room, facing her classmates, singing it with moist eyes, gesticulating arms and planted legs, while the camera circled slowly around her (something kinda like this).  Just me then?

Anyway, Battlefields is actually sitting right with me on first listen, with its simplicity working greatly in its favor. Lea doesn't need a full on production to rouse, or elicit an emotional response from this listener - perhaps due to her clear annunciation and acting chops- so its nice to not have too much distraction going on in the track. The wailing Sia backing vocals- she wrote the track- that ghost the song, but really comes in at 3.30, were also doing good things to me.

(Mental note: must do that pesky Sia vocal profile!!)

Mariah Carey Gifts 2013 With A Medley Of Greatest Hits Before It Passes

Would you expect the first post of 2014- Happy New Year, btw- to be anything but one featuring the Diva ultimately responsible for this blog even existing! Yes, the year starts off with a Mariah Carey post! Where my lambs at!
