Watch Leona Lewis @ Radio 1's Hackney Weekend Festival

leona lewis hackney radio 1 festivel

As mentioned yesterday, Leona Lewis opened the Radio 1 Hackney Weekend Festival on the main stage. Being a Hackney native, the singer was on home ground, but that didn't stop the nerves showing a little at the start, but she quickly got it together as the set progressed.

Watch Lana Del Rey @ BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend Festival

It takes some nerve to rock up to a festival with just a string quartet and a piano, but it's just what Lana Del Rey did for her set at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend Festival.

Duelling Divas: " I Will Always Love You"

This is what happens when us normal, regular folk try to tackle the Whitney Houston version of I Will Always Love You:

Though the critically acclaimed song was written and released by Dolly Parton in 1973, it wasn't until Whitney Houston covered the song two decades later that it really took on the iconic status it now enjoys. In fact Houston's rendition was such a worldwide phenomenon, and so different from the original, that many didn't realise it was a cover or a Country song.

[Listen] Alexandra Burke's "Heartbreak On Hold"

Personally, it's unsurprising to me that Alexandra Burke's sophmore album Heartbreak On Hold hasn't done that well, charting at only number 18 on the UK album chart.

Alex's biggest asset is her voice, but the first two singles from the album, Elephant and Let It Go, displayed little of its unique character, or undeniable power. It's a problem that unfortunately runs through the whole album, but is compounded further by the poor/clichéd lyrics, boring melodies and flat production.

Check out the tracks from Heartbreak On Hold below:
