[Discuss] Singers That Didn't "Blow-Up" Like They Should Have

With my music on random, I chanced upon an old song by Canadian singer-songwriter Tamia.

Perhaps most well known for her only solo top-ten Billboard hit Stranger in My House, it was actually her Grammy-nominated You Put a Move On My Heart that my MP3 player stumbled upon today. Although attempting a comeback, with sensual song Sandwich And A Soda, I always felt this Diva didn't hit the big time like she should have.

[Discuss] RIP American Idol

The death knell has tolled for American Idol, with plans for the atrophying show to come to an end after its fifteenth season (scheduled to be airing in 2016).

[Discuss] Worst. Performances. EVER.

Our divas aren't machines.

They may deliver us countless pitch perfect renditions that have us thinking otherwise. But the longer a Diva performs, the more chance a trip on stage or a dud vocal day will be caught on camera. It's the law of averages, or something

Beyonce Comes For Haters With Tidal Exclusive "Killing My"!!! Also, Is Tidal DOA?

A new song from Beyonce has appeared on the (currently flatlining) streaming service, Tidal!

Killing My is reportedly one of the hundreds of tracks recorded by the Diva that were ultimately deemed unworthy for major release. And listening to it, I can kinda see why this diss track never made it past the finish line.

That's not to say there isn't the bones of  a good track within. After all, I love ratchet Bey as much anyone. It's just, as it is, I can't get over how ugly Bey's tone sounds. I know some of y'all are living for it, but to me it's jarring and at complete odds to the beautifully lyrical quality I expect from the Diva.

[Discuss] Mariah Carey Returns To Sony, But How Can They Resuscitate her Stalled Career?

Mariah Carey has had a trying few years on the music front. Ever since the triumphant comeback of 2005's the The Emancipation Of Mimi, the Diva has suffered from dwindling sales and diminishing relevancy with the wider public.

Favorite "Empowering" Anthems

Ok, this is a song many will feel is quite literally trash on their first (and most likely only) listen. Still, that hasn't stopped it becoming my current go-to when I need a good kick up the ol' caboose.

[Bad Times] Nobody Wants to Work With Kelly Clarkson!!!

I would have thought anyone and everyone would jump at the opportunity to collaborate with the glorious Kelly Clarkson. Well, I'm clearly some sort of fool as the Diva has revealed- in an interview with BBC Radio 1- that she's being shut down by potential collaborators when she approaches them. Say What!?

Is Sia Trying To Court Controversy With "Elastic Heart" Visuals?

Sia isn't done with last year's 1000 Forms of Fear- like I worried she was- having just released the visuals for its next single, Elastic Heart .

Undoubtedly a great song, it being picked as single number three does seem like an odd choice though. Already having been "released"- albeit featuring the The Weeknd- as a single to promote a Hunger Games Soundtrack back in 2013, one has to wonder if re-releasing it could ultimately impact sales.

Nominate your Album(s) Of The Year

This year seems to have been musically anemic for me. Not sure if I'm suffering from a kind of sonic amnesia, but I can't think of any standout releases coming from 2014!  Maybe you can guys can help knock some sense into me.

Let me know what your nominations for album(s) of the year would be in the comments! Help me redeem this year.

[Discuss] Did Mariah Christmas Deliver Vocal Gifts or Crappy Coal To New York Concertgoers? Watch And Decide!

This site's biggest Mariah Carey stan has taken to spamming posting clips from the Diva's latest live dates, currently taking place in New York's Beacon Theatre, on unrelated posts. I would have preferred a proclamation via email, but hey, let me be grateful for the heads-up and go right along and create an area to discuss them and the show.

[Discuss] 2015 Grammy Nominations

Yep, this is last years graphic. You can see just how much this award show means to me...

The 2015 Grammy Nominations are in- whoopie(!)

To spice things up- because, let's be real, many of us aren't bothered- let's put our imaginary money where our imaginary mouths are and bet on who will win what!  (My picks are by no mean an indication of who I want to win- it's who I think the Grammy judges will go with.)

[Discussion Post] Ariana Grande's New Album "My Everything"

Ariana Grande has scored her second number one album in less than a year with sophomore release My Everything. Many congratulations flow from my lips to this young Diva's ears!

Unfortunately I haven't picked up the album...yet. Thus I can't really comment on it, bar the singles that have come from it- which have already been discussed in previous posts [see:Best Mistake, Bang Bang, Break Free ].  I should add, I've tended to like the tracks a lot more after sitting with them for a while- despite what I've written previously about them.

[Discuss] What Makes A Good/Bad Head Voice ?

Charlotte Church's four EP's are on heavy rotation at the moment, and they got me to thinking.

One of the (many) things I love about this particular Diva is her glorious head voice. Rich, full and operatic, its versatility is shown repeatedly throughout the four releases by an artistic and sparing application of it. Of course, the quality of her top notes are hardly surprising when you consider Church's beginnings in the classical arena.

[Disuss] Biggest Turn Off In A Voice

We often discuss what we like about a singer's voice. However, let's today flip the table and talk about the qualities that displease our refined ears.

For me, there's never been a single thing that would totally turn me off a singer. After all, my tolerance for Marmite-timbred artists (Rihanna and Kesha, for example) has always been quite high.

[Album Discussion Post] Lana Del Rey - "Ultraviolence"

The long awaited third LP from Lana Del Rey has arrived!

Released this week, Ultraviolence has been met with critical acclaim from those in the know, with many labeling it a more focused and cohesive album than Born To Die. I'm not sure I agree with those sentiments- Born To Die was pretty darn cohesive if you ask me- but this album does see Lana change her sound, ditching the lucious and grandiose production of her debute for  a rockier, rough and ready persona.

I haven't had enough time with the album to give a proper opinion on it, but I thought I'd make a post for you guys to discuss it. I'll join the discussion after I've given it a few more spins.

[Discuss] Mariah Carey Shows Beyonce How To Legitimately Earn A Writing Credit.

This post is going to come off shady as f**k but bear with me- it's genuinely not my intent.

[Open Thread] The Monthly Competition

Let's move along the mini singing competition thing we were talking about it in last week's Free For All Friday. In this post I need your help ironing out the logistics of the operation.

For instance, how are we going to pick the song(s) for it? It seems like you guys don't want to do the same as one another, but, in my opinion, that makes it harder to judge a winner. Talking about judging, how are we going to pick a winner? Use a poll of some sort? Also, how long do we leave the entry period open for? As for a prize, I'm thinking the winner gets to pick the theme/song/Diva/whatever-we-eventually-decide-the-criteria-for-picking-the-song(s)-is for the next round.

SO MANY QUESTIONS!!

HAALP!

Fan Trumps Mariah Carey And Rodney Jerkins With "You're Mine (Eternal)" Rework

Wow oh wow! Whilst incredibly bored, I found myself perusing fan-made versions of Mariah Carey's You're Mine, taking particular masochistic pleasure listening to people attempt the climax without fumbling the key or damaging the organic drums in my ears.  A tough ask it seemed, but I'm glad I persevered with it.

Whereas most of the renditions saw the individuals sing over an oddly tempo-ed instrumental that seems to be doing the rounds, YouTuber alcoholharmony totally reworked the ballad, transforming it into a more authentic representation of the genre at its source.

[Discuss] Who Should Perform @ Next Year's Super Bowl

I don't usually write about male singers, because, you know, "DIVA" devotee and all. However, something is telling me I should post yesterday's Bruno Mars half-time Super Bowl XLVIII showing.

Maybe it's because I've posted on the half-time show two years previously [See past Madonna/ Beyonce performances] and feel like it's become a tradition that should be maintained. Whatever the case, it'll give those who wish to discuss his polished set a forum to do so.

For those who don't want to talk about it, I'll broaden the appeal of this post by asking: who do you want to perform at next year's Super Bowl?

Is Lady Gaga Heading For A Breakdown in 2014?

It's time to play armchair, unqualified, pop psychologist. Today we welcome to the clinic our first- and most likely last- patient: the oft-outlandish Lady Gaga. A Diva who has sadly been exhibiting some bizarre behavior of late. Let's look at what's been causing the concern in more detail, below.
