Vocal Type: Mezzo- Soprano
Vocal Range: 2 Octaves 6 notes and a semitone C3-Bb5
Whistle Register: No
Vocal Pluses: Voice has a rasp that gives it a distinct, husky sound. She has great control, and understanding of her voice which allows her to sing in the extremes of her voice- both high and low- with apparent ease.
Vocal Negatives: At times her voice is placed in the throat, causing it to sound coarse and pushed. The raspiness of her voice is also somewhat of an acquired taste.

I, for one, cannot stand this lady's voice. No matter how good of a singer she may be. For me it's all about the tone, and hers is painfully annoying!
ReplyDeleteLol @ anonymous below. She does have quite a unique tone to her voice. I tend to dislike it when she's belting though. Her voice begins to sound raspy and scratchy when she belts above an Eb5. But what I have the biggest issue with is with her diction. It doesn't detract from the emotional intensity of her singing though, but it just annoys me at times. Lol. Maybe it's just me and classically trained mind that my voice teacher drilled into me. Speaking of emotional intensity, do you find her crying distracting at times? I think a little emotion goes a long way, but full out crying when she's singing just makes me feel unsatisfied.
ReplyDeleteI love her voice though its one that is distinctive to the black southern gospel singers
