[Watch] Pink Covers Alicia Keys' "Girl On Fire"

pink singing at BBC live lounge

Ever wondered how Pink's edgy pipes would handle Alicia Keys' bombastic "Girl On Fire"? Well stop it before you hurt yourself, because, through the magic of BBC's Live Lounge, it is now a reality that can be heard via Youtube!

Taking the empowering, feminist mid-tempo track, Pink gives it the "Just Like A Pill" treatment: smooshing the two songs together to form one gorgeous mixed-genre baby! I just wish her vocals had been a little bit more peppy because though good, they were just missing that fire- which Pink usually has in spades- needed to sell the lyrics fully.

Christina Aguilera And CeeLo Green: "Baby, It's Cold Outside"

Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green team up again, but this time it's for his Christmas album, Cee Lo's Magic Moment! Having already recorded an original cut, in the form of Lotus' Make The World Move, the pair opt to tackle the pop standard Baby, It's Cold Outside this time round.

Despite Christina Aguilera only "featuring" on the song, it's perhaps unsurprising she remains the more striking voice on the classic: dancing all over CeeLo Green's grounding bass like a butterfly fluttering spasmodically around a slug.

The overall quality of her voice- tone/ timbre/ belts- is definitely much improved on the majority of tracks on her own album Lotus; an odd fact considering it was released after Cee Lo's album. Also, the balanced out dynamics on the top belt make her voice much more palatable. I just wish she'd chosen to attack the notes like this on Lotus: it would have made it a much more enjoyable affair.

[New Music] Jessie Ware Covers Browstone's "If You Love Me"

Jessie Ware continues to impress me with her musical output. The South London born singer's debut studio album Devotion has already joined the ranks of my favourite albums of 2012; and her choice to now cover Brownstone's brilliant 1994 hit If You Love Me- boy does that bring back memories- only exacerbates my fondness for the rising star.

[Watch] Fantasia, Joe, and Karen Clark Sheard Tribute Mariah Carey at the BMI Urban Awards

Mariah Carey finally seems to be getting some recognition from the music industry she has pretty much been on top of for over two decades- we won't mention the "G" word.

Last year Mariah was honoured by BET, where Patti Labelle and Kelly Rowland paid tribute to the 5-octave singer with their performances of Hero and Fantasy [See here]. This year it was the turn of the BMI Urban Awards to celebrate Mariah Carey and her skill as a lyricist.

Review: Delilah "Inside My Love"

Somebody I'm always excited to hear new music from is Paris-born, London-raised, singer Delilah. When I'd read she had covered Minnie Ripperton's classic Inside My Love, I knew it was going to be a goody.

This is a singer-songwriter with previous form when handling covers- having done a stellar job incorporating Chaka Khan's Ain't Nobody, into her song Go [Review]. So I suspected Delilah wasn't going to be doing a simple cut-and-paste job with the Minnie Ripperton original, or using it to show off her range (as I suspect the reason is for many when choosing to cover Minnie).

Joss Stone "While You're Out Looking For Sugar" [New Music]

Joss Stone's debut, The Soul Sessions, is still one of my favourite albums by the singer. Released in 2003, the set was a collection of expertly crafted cover songs, all with a soul infusion.

Melody Thornton Covers La Roux's "Bulletproof"

Covering an electro-pop gem like La Roux's Bulletproof is always going to be a tough challenge, but it's just what ex-Pussycat Doll, Melody Thornton and duet partner Bobby Newberry (anyone?) have attempted to do.

Taking the song down a "darker" route, the pair have transformed the feisty and energetic tune into a melodramatic, emo anthem that had zero emotional impact on moi- perhaps I'm dead inside. The crescendo vocals at the end of the track also get a little too messy for my liking.

Don't even get me started on the video or Bobby Newberry's make-up. You know you've gone too far with it when your skin looks more flawless, and your lips more glossy than your female co-star.

Tulisa Surprises With Her Cover Of "Titanium"

I never much cared for her music with the group N-Dubz, and haven't liked her new song Young; but I've always thought there was something interesting about X-Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos' voice.

Taking to the microphone at Radio 1's Über cool Live Lounge, Tulisa took on Sia and David Guetta's belter of a track Titanium. An apt song choice considering all the controversy surrounding her and that tape at the moment...nuff said.

SWV Sample Zelda's "Fairy Theme" on Title track "I Missed Us"

I am in shock! Listening to SWV's new album, I Missed Us, in anticipation of possibly reviewing it, out of nowhere I hear the Fairy's Theme from Nintendo's classic Legend Of Zelda game series start playing! But where was it coming ?

Kelly Clarkson covers Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, with mixed results!

britney spears kelly clarkson

Who doesn't love Kelly Clarkson?

Funny, down to earth, kinda goofy and awkward, but with a voice that can crumble mountains. We fell in love with the gutsy singer on season one of American Idol back in 2002, and since then not only has she managed to maintain grounded and normal, but has also held on to a successful music career- unlike fellow season one runners up Nikki McKibbin and Justin Guarini, (remember them? I sure don't). As if to mark her decade in the music industry the singer just scored her latest Billboard number one with single Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You).

Here's to another decade of success!

Stars Pay Musical Tribute To Whitney Houston

With a Legacy as great as Whitney Houston's, it's no surprise that singers are continuing to pay tribute, many during their own shows, to the vocal genius since her untimely death. I'm sure this will be a list that grows as time progresses, but here are those I've found so far.

Please let me know of any others missed.

Watch: Jessie J Reworks Rihanna's "We Found Love" for Radio One's "Live Lounge"

Taking the lyrics of Rihanna's We Found Love back to their emotive roots- those that the original club banger somewhat obscured- Jessie J delivered a delicate, acoustic rendition of the song at her Radio 1 Live Lounge session.

She also treated viewers/listeners to a rendition of her UK number one hit single, Domino. Listen out for the impressive, G5 hitting, vocal-run-laden ending. Impressive- if not slightly excessive!

Watch: Bet Honours Mariah Carey, While Kelly Rowland And Patti LaBelle Pay Musical Tribute

mariah carey bet honours crying

The Black Entertainment Television ( BET) Honours are designed to promote and celebrate the achievements of African Americans across a number of fields. The show, in its fifth year, attracted the presence of not only musical royalty, like Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, but also that of the political kind, with none other than Michelle Obama making an appearance!

This year's musical honoraries included the Diva with the 5 Octave range, Mariah Carey. Not only did she receive an award for her contribution to music, but the lucky lady received two musical performances: one from Destiny's Child member, Kelly Rowland, and the other from musical legend Patti Labelle.

[ NOTE: The show was filmed last month but only screened this week .]

Listen to Jessie J's cover of the Whitney Houston classic, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"

Ever wonder how British singer Jessie J would handle a Whitney Houston song? Well wonder no more as Jessie gives an accoustic cover of Whitney's 80's classic I Wanna Dance With Somebody for Dermot O'leary Presents The Saturday Sessions 2. Not only does Jessie J give a great rendition of the song live and with an exposed arrangement but she also manages to give the cover a little of her own twist too with the inclusion of her trademark quick fire delivery.

Leona Lewis turns cover star at the 2011Doha Tribeca Film Festival

Though not the most exciting pop star about, British X-Factor winner Leona Lewis has something that most pop Diva's don't have and would kill for: a great voice. Its with this gift that Leona took to the stage at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival to deliver a great selection of cover songs.

The songs chosen all shared the common factor of being originally sung by male singers. Featured were Grenade by Bruno Mars, Apologise by OneRepublic and my personal favourite out of the the songs that were chosen, Kiss From a Rose by Seal.

Adele covers Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't make you Love Me" at the Itunes Festivel 2011

Adele performed a beautifully understated rendition of the Bonnie Raitt's classic I Can't make you Love Me at the Itunes festival yesterday. Despite just having recovered from vocal problems the singer performed a stunning set that demonstrated that although still not a hundred percent back to form, Adele's voice is still light years ahead of anyone else on the charts at the moment.

Watch and listen to the performance, and the Bonnie Raitt original, below.

Nicole Scherzingers' covers Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" with mixed results.

The newly appointed X-Factor (USA) co-host Nicole Scherzinger decided to show all just why she deserves to be upgraded to a coveted place on the judging panel- if reports that Cheryl Cole has been given the boot are to be believed- by giving a solid performance of Adele's Billboard number 1 hit Rolling in the deep.

Nicole's vocals are solid throughout but take a dip in quality when attempting the higher belts of the chorus. Though the singer does manage to hit the notes, unfortunately there's a tradeoff in the decline of the vocal quality and her voice becomes harsh, pushed and unpleasantly overbearing.

However, that's a minor quibble, and overall Nicole managed to give a great performance of an exceptional song!

Ben Folds cover Ke$ha's "Sleazy"

The former Ben Folds Five frontman has released a brilliant, shall we say "alternative" version of Ke$ha's2010 club track Sleazy in aid of the victims of the Japan tsunami. Hipsters will scoff and no doubt take pot shots at Ke$ha's version, while simultaneously declaring their love for Ben's, but they need to get over themselves and get into Ke$ha coz the gurl is fly!

Amber Riley Covers Adele's "Someone Like you"

As Adele's popularity soars worldwide its unsurprising singers have been clambering to cover the English vocalist's classy tunes. John Legend gave us his, not so great, cover of Rolling in the deep a few weeks back and now Glee actor/singer Amber Riley gives an Adele song a try by covering the already classic Someone like you
