The X-Factor isn't something I usually watch. However, with this being the Whitney Houston Vs Elton John week (an odd pairing, no?) I thought I'd give it a go.

Thankfully, after watching the show, I wasn't in tears, flogging myself for not giving up my weekends to the alter of X-Factor anymore. Instead, I felt more secure in my decision, realising just how average most of the contestants were when there was no sympathetic backstory clouding judgment.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas. In fact, I think I could stand to hear it all year round. (Something I'm sure Mariah's publisher would also want to see happening). Still, it takes a brave Diva to cover such an iconic song.

Enter The Snow Queen herself, Idina Menzel, who recorded the Christmas classic for her seasonal LP, Holiday Wishes.

Bette Midler Covers TLC's "Waterfalls" On New Album, "It's The Girls!"

Bette Midler's new album is just so perfectly relevant for this site! Not only is she an iconic Diva with a career that spans decades, but her latest release, It's the Girls!, features a selection of cover songs all originally recorded by other females. It's like some kind of Diva Inception, I tells ya!

Kelly Clarkson is so adorable- I could listen to her ramble all day! 

[Music Video] Tamar Braxton - "Let Me Know"

Tamar Braxton is gearing up for album number three, and if its lead single is anything to go by, this Diva isn't playing with her sound or changing lanes on it. Brave woman!

Still unabashedly Rnb, Let Me Know is a smooth and warming love song built around a questionably used Aaliyah sample. Really, I'm not even sure why they included it since it's sped up to an unrecognisable pitch that effectively strips the sample of all character. It would have made more sense for them to have had Tamar sing a similar sentence, and then played with that. Still, the writers of the sample (The Isley Brothers) aren't credited on the song (according to Wiki), so perhaps the size and manipulation of it was done to avoid splitting royalties.

[New Music] Sia Covers Annie's "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile"

An Annie re-remake is coming to the big screens (boooo!) but Queen Sia has recorded a version of one of the musical's numbers, You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile, to promote this news (Yaay!).

It's a rendition that cranks the pop dial to max, with a delivery that has the Diva (i think purposely) putting on a childish voice at points. It's all very sugary, but that's understandable since the film is going to be targeted at families and kidlings (i.e not me). It was never going to be a death metal remix, no matter how awesome that would have been, but I think Sia added enough edge to make this take more akin to a bottle of Coca-Cola Life when it could have been straight-up regular ol' Coke. (I'm not sure I'm making sense anymore.)

You best believe I'm not wasting time capping an image of this video.

Say what?! I know, right! A lady of the cloth covering the Queen of Darkness' iconic hit just sounds wrong in every way! But wait, it actually kinda works- though admittedly in a creepy, strange way- if we imagine the touching part to be a metaphor of the spiritual sort and not a physical kind.

Are you guys ready for another slice from the pie that is Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics? Well too bad! You're getting another poorly produced, and questionably sung, piece, whether you want it or not. Open wide!

[New Music] Aretha Franklin Covers Adele's "Rolling In The Deep"

"Drunk aunt" pretty much sums up my thoughts on this, must have been a one-take, cover by Aretha Franklin of Adele's  Rolling in the Deep. The addition of  Ain't No Mountain High Enough at the end is just as unexpected as some of the weird vocal choices made by the Diva, but I can see why the producer added it. Aretha's improv sounds better, and less jarring, over that than the Rolling in the Deep backing.

Tis the season of the cover album, or so it seems! Barbra Streisand has just delivered hers, in the form of LP Partners- from which we saw a few songs performed on the Tonight Show- and now follows (another) veteran Diva: Annie Lennox.

Naughty Boy's La La La was practically the soundtrack to my summer last year.

The original featured site favorite (*sniggers*) male vocalist Sam Smith, but as he's infinitely more busy since his career has taken off, Naughty Boy enlisted Diva, Leona Lewis, to provide the lead vocals at the 2014 World Music Awards.

Listen to Brandy Cover Coldplay's "Magic"

If you happen to be a fan of both Brandy and Coldplay, you are (potentially) in for a treat.

Clearly feeling Coldplay's new sound, the Diva took to the studio to record a cover of their single Magic. It wasn't a total rework, mind. Instead, the Diva added her own spice to the production by throwing in some of her trademark vocal harmonies to fill out the song.

Honestly, the original did little for me, so Brandy's version- which changes little- also left me feeling like I was being assaulted by a Jigglypuff. Her voice sounds good, don't get me wrong, but the song isn't for me.

Perhaps you guys will appreciate it!

Something about this trio of sisters does funny things to me, almost to the extent that they can do no wrong in my eyes. (I smell witchery afoot!) So you better believe I was pumped to watch their live show at Glastonbury 2014.

Performing to a packed audience, the Divas rocked "The Other" stage. Mixed in with their own collection of great songs were two popular records by other artists:  Fleetwood Mac's Oh Why and Beyonce's XO.

I know we spoke about Sam Smith earlier in the week, but that's no way reason enough not to make another post -especially when he goes and covers the iconic Whitney Houston.

Amerie has returned and is still rocking that percussive-heavy sound like it's 2005!

But whatever, I don't have a problem with that. I'll always appreciate the power it has to get me off of my seat. The issue I do have is with the Sugar Hill Gang sample new song What I Want is built upon. That classic will always and forever be associated with the Carlton dance [here] in my mind, and thus I'll have a tough time taking anything using it seriously- as is the case here.

I'll sit this particular song out, but it's great to have Amerie back on the scene.
