Rihanna Performs "Where Have You Been" Live on American Idol Finale.

Rihanna American idol 2012 finale

Yep, the Rihanna embargo has been lifted, because honestly I just don't care enough to keep it going. With that out the way, take a look at her performance of new single Where Have You Been on the American Idol season 11 Final.

There has certainly been growth in the star in regards to her stage presence, and her involvement with the choreography, and that has to be given credit. Also, unlike other people in the industry, Rihanna, always seems to sing live, admittedly over quite a filled out backing track. Whether you appreciate that "experience" or not is another thing. However, I like to see people giving it a good go and RiRi certainly is getting more accomplished as a live vocalist.

Watch: Jessie J Reworks Rihanna's "We Found Love" for Radio One's "Live Lounge"

Taking the lyrics of Rihanna's We Found Love back to their emotive roots- those that the original club banger somewhat obscured- Jessie J delivered a delicate, acoustic rendition of the song at her Radio 1 Live Lounge session.

She also treated viewers/listeners to a rendition of her UK number one hit single, Domino. Listen out for the impressive, G5 hitting, vocal-run-laden ending. Impressive- if not slightly excessive!

Review: Rihanna Performs "We Found Love" And Duets With Chris Martin On "Princess Of China" At The 2012 Grammy Awards [Watch]

rihanna Grammy 2012 performance

Rihanna kept the energy levels up at the 2012 Grammy Awards Ceremony, delivering perhaps one of her most choreographed performances to date.

Her vocals during the piano led intro of We Found Love sounded good but became more pitchy as it progressed with her using some melisma to quickly get away from the missed note. However, once the substantial backing of the song started, she hit her stride, dancing and belting the notes, with a rasp at times, almost perfectly.

News Round Up: Beyonce Has A Baby, Rihanna Keeps Selling, Sugababes Reform, Katy Perry Divorces and Christina Aguilera Talks Weight.

beyonce christina katy sugababes news

The biggest news of last week was of course the birth of Beyonce and Jay Z's first child- a daughter- named Blue Ivy Carter. It seems like only yesterday Beyonce spectacularly revealed her pregnancy to the world during her live performance of Love On Top at the 2011 MTV Music Awards.

The speed of the pregnancy seemed in stark contrast to senior Diva Mariah Carey, whose pregnancy felt like the gestation period of an elephant last year! Blue Ivy Carter was delivered healthy, via C-Section, at Lennox Hill Hosptial, New York- just in case you wanted to send flowers. Congratulations to the Knowles/Carter family.

Florence And The Machine Cover Drake and Rihanna's "Take Care"

Did you ever imagine that Florence Welch would be a Drake fan? I'm not sure I did- not that I'd given it much thought, I must admit- but she vocalised her like of the Canadian star not only directly, calling him one of her favourite artists- along with Rihanna- but also musically, by choosing to cover the title track of his new album Take Care.

Take Care is a dark and atmospheric duet between Drake and Rihanna that musically is based heavily on the Jamie XX remix of a Gil Scott-Heron track I'll take care of you. The Drake remake is also produced by Jamie XX but features some additional production by Noah Shebib. It's a pretty good song, but nonetheless, one I wouldn't have expected Florence And The Machine to cover. But perhaps that was the point.

Album review: Rihanna "Rated R"+ "Loud" = "Talk that Talk"

I wasn't really that a big of a fan of Rihanna's last album Loud. Loved some of the singles like Only Girl (In the world) and S and M, as well as the sexy album cut Skin, but for me it had it's fingers in too many musical pies to really be considered an album of real merit. Well, Rihanna seems to have learnt her lesson in that year away from the studio, and has returned more focused and confident on Talk that Talk.

Diva Devotee Halloween Playlist:

It's that time of year again when the freaks come out demanding chocolate and pennies, the boundary between spirit world and the real world is at its weakest and Lady Gaga fans put on regular clothes so as to not feel accepted by society. Yes, its HALLOWEEN! So while everyone else out there is having a spooky day getting dressed up and ready to party I'm sitting at my computer compiling  a play list of Diva songs- let me just tell you it isn't an easy feat- that I think would go down quite well at any Halloween party!

If you have any of your own suggestions please feel free to comment at the bottom!

Review: Coldplay Featuring Rihanna "Princess of China" (Listen below)

What  a strange pairing this is. Indie bores Coldplay have roped in edgy singer Rihanna to duet with them on a new song from their upcoming album Mylo Xyloto called Princess Of China. Though the lead singer, Chris Martin, claimed Rihanna was chosen because of a love of her voice, I'm thinking this is more of a madonna style increase your relevancy /fanbase/ street cred by association. Cynical, much? Whatever the case, the pairing works.

Review :Rihanna Feat Calvin Harris' "We Found Love " : ultimately one boring affair.

 Rihanna we found love

Seems like Rihanna is still riding the Euphoric Club sound that she opened last album Loud-which was only released LAST YEAR!- with on Only Girl (in the world). This time she's enlisted British producer Calvin Harris to come up with the lead single, called We Found Love, from the as yet untitled album due in November.

First listen to Rihanna's new single has me feeling like its missing a little magic, perhaps a punchier middle eight or a stronger melody. It's compounded by the song veering towards sounding lazy, lyrically, with way too much repetition occurring. Its a styling that will find We Found Love no doubt sounding amazing in the club, with the right atmosphere, bass heavy speakers, and a few drinks- doesn't everything?- but it doesn't translate well to a more intimate listen.

Ultimately the song is a yawn fest, that could have been helmed by any singer. Stripped is any of Rihanna feistiness or character, and the song comes off being more about Calvin Harris' production than Rihanna's voice. We Found Love should really have been reserved for Calvin Harris' new album, and as such been credited the other way round as himself featuring Rihanna, because she most certainly is not coming off as the main attraction to his show.

Rating: 2.5/5

Review: Nicki Minaj feat Rihanna "Fly"

New single, Fly, finds rapper Nicki Minaj showcasing a softer, more personal side, chronicling her own life's struggles and triumphs. The track also features Barbadian singer Rihanna, who offers up her vocals on a chorus that lyrically seeks to give the song a more inclusive feel than the verses by remaining general and broad with its imagery and empowering message. Its a combination that works well;  allowing the song to be both personal to Minaj while also being universally accessible to anyone listening.

Sound alike: David Guetta feat Jennifer Hudson "Night of my Life" and Rihanna "Only Girl (In the World)"

Club track producer of the moment David Guetta isn't the most original guy in the world. In fact you can often quite easily identify what classic he's pillaged to create a particular song. Usually, I'm willing to ignore these indiscretions because of the sole, shallow fact that his songs are catchy and make me want to dance like a fool. With this in mind you can imagine my excitement when I heard he'd teamed up with Ms Power-Pipes herself, Jennifer Hudson, on song called Night of your life.

Review : Rihanna S &M remix featuring Britney Spears

 rihanna britney

It was only yesterday that news of Rihanna's remix of latest single S and M would feature Britney Spears. Though the interweb seemed to be a buzz with excitement about the impending release, I was a little more reserved in my reaction to the news. In truth, I was more worried, and had a feeling the resulting release wouldn't be anything of merit- especially when considered how strong of a single the original was/is.

Review : Rihanna's S &M Video

Rihanna isn't helping with the claims of her being associated with Illumanti
when at 3.20 "Rihanna Princesss of the Illumanti" is flashed on screen.

Rihanna_dominatrix

Rihanna's video for S and M, her third release from Loud, bypasses what could have been a risqué and provocative look at the underworld scene of S and M by approaching the subject matter in a playful, light-hearted and toothless manner.

The video does manage to include some imagery that is synonymous with the S and M scene- such as whips, bondage and PVC- but they are rendered ineffectual when contrasted with the "suggestive" way Rihanna "eats" a selection of fruit towards the end of the video.

Rihanna's Rudeboy vs Usher's OMG

Another random find on Youtube. Three talented teens- credited as Joelle,Sophia and Kris- and a piano manage to seamlessly and cleverly merge Usher's OMG and Rihanna's Rudeboy. The result is something a little special.

Listen to Ellie Goulding cover Rihannah's "Only Girl (in the world)"

ellie goulding only girl rihanna
An organic makeover is given to Rihanna's Only girl (in the world) as folk-pop singer Ellie Goulding swaps the processed productions for a string quartet and piano.

As much as I love Ellie and acoustic versions of songs, I just don't think it works with Only girl as the original song gets so much of its clout from the music and not the vocal or lyrics. Therefore with the driving force behind the song removed the song falls apart.

Rihanna took to the stage this weekend to duet with X-factor finalist Matt Cardle on her song Unfaithful. It was a shaky performance from Matt, and as I feared, he seemed totally uncomfortable with the song choice and the setting. Rihanna on the other hand looked in her element, and despite the terrible hair, managed to stay vocally on point while trying her best to create some chemistry with Matt. Bad Pairing. Nuff said.

Disagree? comment below or by clicking here. I'd Love to read your thoughts.
